Chapter 49
Zachary wanted to relieve Yvette from the burden of having to take care of him and Noah all the time.
Although Claude was nice, his surroundings were too dangerous. Zachary hoped Yvette could be with at man who could keep her safe.
Kiki hadnât expected Zachary to have such thoughts.
She added, âAlthough my dad wants me to get married for the sake of business, the rich guys he introduces me to are usually goodâlooking.
Yvette felt helpless against the two of them. âAll right, butâ¦â She looked at Zachary. âIâm just going on this blind date in place of Kiki, not to find you a dad.â
Zachary didnât mind at all. âI understand.â
He thought about the romantic dramas on TV. Love often came unexpectedly. And such coincidences were the easiest way for love to spark.
He and Noah were too young to protect Yvette. So, if they could find a man to take care of her during their time back home, it would be perfect.
Yvette had no idea about Zacharyâs thoughts.
That night, after putting Zachary to bed, Yvette and Kiki sat together to chat.
âAre you going to look for Leonard tomorrow?â Yvette was asking about Kikiâs crush, Leonard Cook
Kiki didnât deny it. âYes. I heard heâs coming back tomorrow.â
She looked at Yvette. âYvvy, thank you for helping me with the blind date. If I miss seeing him because of something else, Iâll regret it for the rest of my life.â
Yvette reached out and hugged her. âThereâs no need to thank me.â
Kiki choked. âHow are things between you and Xavier?â
âStill the same.â
Kiki hugged Yvette tightly after hearing this. âYvvy, they say love is a debt we never finish repaying.â
Yvette patted Kikiâs shoulder gently. âYou and Leonard love each other. The two of you will definitely get back together.â
After comforting Kiki, Yvette went to the guest room to rest, but she couldnât fall asleep.
To be honest, she was very envious of Kiki for having her feelings reciprocated. As she thought about the past 20 years of her life, she realized she had never truly been in love.
She remembered that Xavier had said he would take her somewhere tomorrow.
She sent him a text. âMr. Lane, I have something to do in the morning, so I can only meet in the

afternoon.â
After sending the message, she put her phone on silent and set it aside.
She didnât know that Xavier was still awake. He sat in the empty living room and stared at the message
in a daze.
He didnât reply and just tossed the phone aside. He felt irritated.
Meanwhile, the news that Yvette was alive had reached Shannon and Luke at Lane Mansion.
Shannon couldnât believe it. âXav even brought back her ashes. How could she not be dead?â
Luke raised his eyebrows. âDo you really want our daughterâinâlaw to be dead?â
Shannon retorted coldly. âSheâs no longer my daughterâinâlaw.â
Luke sighed. âSince neither you nor Xav liked Yvette, why did you let her marry into the family in the first place?â
Shannon choked.
Luke stood up. âI actually think Yvette is a good lady. If they get divorced, we shouldnât bother her anymore.â
Shannon looked arrogant. âAs long as she doesnât mess with Xay, I wonât seek her out!â She was worried, about Xavier not having any children. It was all Yvetteâs fault.
Shannon was particularly anxious because she knew that the other Lane family members already had children.
At first, Luke had been an insignificant member of the family. He had liked to fool around and hadnât had any interest in managing the company.
If not for Xavier, their family wouldnât have enjoyed the glory they had now. But if he had no heirs, his position would certainly be snatched away by the next generation.
Every time Shannon thought of that, she couldnât sleep.
In the past four years, besides Daphne, she had also tried to arrange women for Xavier, but none had caught his interest.
Shannon walked outside. She called Daphne behind Lukeâs back.
âI donât care what method you use. As long as you can get pregnant with Xavâs child, I guarantee you will become Mrs. Lane.
