Chapter 46
Daphneâs sudden arrival had disrupted the intimate atmosphere earlier. Xavier approached Yvette again, causing her to take a step back.
This action irked Xavier. In the past, Yvette had always been the one to approach him, but everything had changed.
âMr. Lane, what business do you want to discuss with me?â
She knew that she could only take things slowly, especially given how unpredictable Xavier was and the failure she had suffered last time.
Xavier stared at her. He suspected that she was hiding something from him. âDonât you like to do charity? Come by tomorrow. Iâll take you somewhere.
Yvette had no reason to refuse. She left after agreeing to it
As she opened the door, she saw Daphne waiting outside.
Daphne blocked her path immediately. Her eyes were filled with concern. âYvvy, youâre really alive. Thatâs wonderful. Can we talk?â
Yvette smiled faintly at her. âExcuse me, miss, but who are you?â
Daphne was taken aback. âYou donât recognize me?â
Yvette didnât bother to explain. âAre we close? I donât feel like talking to you.â
With that, she entered the elevator, leaving Daphne alone with a complicated expression. Then, Daphne went to Xavierâs office.
âWhatâs the matter?â Xavier asked when she entered.
âI wanted to explain about the news today. I didnât know I was being photographed, and the reporters posted it onlineâ¦â
Earlier that morning, Xavierâs secretary had informed him about the news circulating online, which suggested that he had taken Daphne home to meet his parents and that they were getting married.
He hadnât told the public relations department handle the news. It was because he had wanted to see how Yvette would react to it.
But judging from her behavior just now, she didnât seem to care at all.
Thinking of this, he looked at Daphne. âI got it.â
Daphne couldnât help but ask, âXav, didnât Yvette die? How come sheâsâ¦â
Hearing her mention Yvette, Xavier put down his work and looked at her. âWho told you she died?â
Daphne was rendered speechless.
Xavier continued coldly, âIf thereâs nothing else, get out.â
Even after Daphine had left the office, she couldnât comprehend what had happened. How could someone who was supposedly dead be alive?
Fear creeped into her. She was worried that Yvette would destroy everything she had now.
After Yvette left Xavierâs office, she was assigned to an office. She took a tour around. Just as she went downstairs, someone stopped her.
20 minutes later, Daphne and Yvette sat across from each other in a private room.
âI heard you lost your memory?â Daphne asked mockingly. âDid you forget your parents and family too?
Yvette took a sip of coffee and looked at her. âWhat exactly do you want to say?â
Daphne pursed her lips. Her gaze was intense. âYvette, I know youâre jealous that I took Xav from you, but thereâs no need to use such tricks to get close to him, is there?
âHavenât you seen the news? Xav and I are getting married. Were you brought up to steal someoneâs man?â
Yvette let out a laugh. It surprised Daphne. âWhat are you laughing at?â
âIâm laughing at how wellâmannered you are,â Yvette replied calmly.
Daphneâs expression changed. Yvette was making fun of her upbringing as an orphan.
âHave you and Xavier gotten married? As far as I know, you havenât. If youâre not married, how am I stealing your man? And what evidence do you have that Iâm stealing âyourâ man?â
Daphne had always been the one to mock Yvette. When had it become Yvetteâs turn to mock her?
Daphne suppressed her anger and commented, âIt seems like you havenât lost your memory.â
