Chapter 45
Xavierâs eyes were filled with emotions Yvette couldnât comprehend. âWhere did you get all that money for charity in less than five years? Did Claude give it to you?â
What Yvette didnât know was that since she had left, Xavier hadnât slept well once. He hadnât slept at all these past few days, either. His mind had been filled with the images of Yvette and Claude together.
âClaude and I are just friends. I earned my money-â
Before Yvette could finish, Xavierâs hand fell on her shoulder, slowly moving downward. âHow did you earn it? With this?â
Yvetteâs mind buzzed. She stared at him with disbelief. âWhat did you say?â
His hand was warm, but his words were so cold.
Her throat tightened. She clenched her fists tightly, so much so that her fingernails dug into her palms.
Xavier leaned over to her ear and whispered, âTell me how much Claude gave you. Iâll double it!â
His fingers brushed her skin repeatedly, as if he wanted to imprison her in his embrace for eternity.
âRemember how much your family owes me? Iâll forget all of it. Just name your price and stay. Iâll give you everything!â
As soon as he finished speaking, Yvette couldnât hold back any longer. She raised her hand and slapped, him hard across the face.
âYou bastard!â
Xavier could feel his face burning, but he didnât feel the pain at all. He grabbed her wrist and stared at her coldly. âTell me. How much?â
Yvette had known that she had loved the wrong person, but she hadnât realized she had never truly
known him.
She had always thought Xavierâs obsession about cleanliness and his aloofness were what made him different from other men. But now, she saw that he was no different.
âMr. Lane, please have some respect.â
Xavier gulped. He reached out and held her chin up. âCall me âXavâ!â
Yvette was stunned.
Xavier stared deeply at her. He was trying to make sure if she really had lost her memory and really had. no feelings for him.
After a long pause, Yvette slowly said, âXav.â
The words came out of her mouth without any warmth. It was completely different from before.

Xavier remembered how she used to hug him and call but his name tenderly after they had gotten married.
âXav, Xavâ¦â
Xavierâs lips tightened. He refused to believe she had lost her memories and had no feelings for him. He leaned down and pressed his lips roughly against hers, kissing her forcefully.
Yvette tried to resist, but both her hands were held captive by him.
At that moment, voices could be heard outside the office. âMs. Reyes, Mr. Lane is in a meeting. You canât go in.ââ
âI have something important to tell him. Move aside!â Daphne ignored the secretaryâs attempt to stop her and opened the door.
Yvette struggled and pushed Xavier away.
âYâYvette!â
Daphne froze after seeing Yvette.
âGet out!â She heard Xavier shout before she could react.
Yvette hadnât expected to meet Daphne this way. As she was about to leave, Xavier stopped her. âI meant for her to leave, not you!â
Xavierâs eyes lingered on Yvetteâs nowâswollen lips. âMs. Snyder, we still have business to discuss.â
Daphne had never felt so humiliated. âXav, let me know when youâre done talking,â she said gently. She tried to maintain her composure as she left the office,
Once she was out of the office, her face turned grim and terrifying.
Yvette wasnât dead. How could she still be alive?
