Chapter 368
âIs this your work?â Yvette asked.
âYes, itâs what my boss assigned me,â Xavier replied. His expression remained the same.
Yvette reflected on how Xavier used to review othersâ proposals, but now he had to draft them himself. Life could be so unpredictable.
âMaybe you should talk to Shannon and ask her to assign you some work, or-â
âYvvy.â Xavier interrupted her before she could finish. âFrom now on, we have nothing to do with the Lane family. You and I are a family.â
Yvette was momentarily speechless. She wasnât touched; instead, she reminded him, saying, âI moved back to Sangine County because the doctor said Violaâs health is failing and she might not make it through the New Year.
âIf Viola passes away, Iâll leave this country. Weâll go our separate ways sooner or later. We are not family.â
Xavier felt a pang in his chest at Yvetteâs last sentence. Heâd thought that their time together had made her give up on the idea of divorce, but it turned out she hadnât changed her mind.
âI need to get to work. You should go back early,â Yvette stated. She left the room without touching the. breakfast.
Today, she was meeting the mystery person Cynthia had mentioned.
Outside the hotel, a man and a woman stood by a black car.
The man in the black coat exuded a cold and stern demeanor. In contrast, the woman was dressed in a cute puffer jacket and Martin boots. She was holding two large bags of meat pies.
Cynthia took a bite of a meat pie and offered one to Ray. âWant some?â
Ray watched her puffedâup cheeks move like a rabbitâs. âNo, thank you.â
âThatâs a shame. If you donât eat, how will two ladies finish them all?â
Before Ray could respond, he saw her stuff two more meat pies into her mouth. Within a minute, sheâd finished an entire bag of meat pies.
âCanât waste food. Iâll help boss eat a few more,â Cynthia remarked.
Ray didnât say anything. He had a feeling that Yvetteâs breakfast would be gone if she took her time to come down.
âBoss!â the sharpâeyed Cynthia called out and waved as she spotted Yvette.
Yvette walked over and took the remaining few meat pies from her. âThank you.â
âDonât mention it. Letâs get in the car; weâre off to meet the client.â Cynthia opened the car door for her.
Ray was already in the driverâs seat, ready to go.

Cynthia didnât know who the mystery person was, but she knew he was wealthy and had arranged to meet in a topâtier private room at Sternhow Club.
Given the system at the club, Yvette naturally wouldnât be able to reach that floor on her own.
âWeâll wait for you in the car.â
A man reached out and opened the window of the topâtier private room at Sternhow Club. He gazed down at everything below.
âMr. Jeremiah, she has arrived,â Jackie announced. She glanced at Jeremiah, who was sitting in the private room playing chess alone. âThe person who came in isnât Ms. Snyder.â
Jeremiah paused slightly, holding the black chess piece in his hand. âDoes she still not want to see me?â
A few days ago, heâd sent Terrence to find Yvette. When she hadnât come to see him, heâd realized the result, but he still couldnât accept it.
During his time abroad, heâd constantly looked into Yvette whenever heâd been conscious. Heâd found out that she was Cameron, so heâd gone to great lengths to meet her, using that as an excuse.
Jackie closed the window and walked over. âI found out recently that the company also wanted Ms. Snyderâs compositions. However, she always sends her assistant. Sheâs never shown up herself.â
As they spoke, a waiter led Cynthia in. She immediately noticed the man sitting in the innerâmost private room, his cold, dignified demeanor evident as he played chess.
