Chapter 357
Seeing how obedient Xavier was now, Yvette found it difficult to keep giving him a hard time. So, she had him do some manageable tasks. Sometimes, Mark even secretly helped him with them.
During dinner that night, Xavier suddenly said, âI found a job. From now on, Iâll be responsible for the household expenses.â With that, he returned the card Yvette had âgiven him for the living expenses.
Now that some of his memories had resurfaced, he knew that Yvette hadnât given him the card out of
concern.
Yvette looked at the cash card he handed back and wondered about the job heâd mentioned.
Zachary shared Yvetteâs curiosity and voiced out the question on her mind. âMr. Xavier, what job did you get?â
Now that Xavierâs new company had already been set up, he couldnât keep using his treatment sessions
as an excuse to go out.
âCharity work for the disabled,â Xavier replied. Since he couldnât see, he figured this would be a good
excuse.
The others at the table were all shocked upon hearing this. Yvette recalled the old Xavier and knew heâd never done charity sincerely; it had always been for the companyâs reputation.
So, it was truly surprising that heâd choose to do work related to helping the disabled.
Seeing the change in him and how he sincerely wanted to do good, Yvette realized she needed to gradually change her opinion of him.
âHow much can your job pay? Just use my card.â Nowadays, she could afford the daily expenses. After all, she was no longer the unemployed housewife sheâd once been.
âNo need.â Xavier left the card on the table. With that, he left the table, even though he hadnât eaten much.
Yvette didnât mind; it was fine if he didnât want it. After all, living together meant he should bear part of the living expenses.
She put the cash card away. She hadnât checked the balance; otherwise, she wouldâve realized that he hadnât spent a single cent on the card.
It was Christmas the next day. Yvette had already discussed releasing her new song domestically with Cynthia. After its release, they would see how it did.
Unlike all the other nights, Yvette slept well that night. She woke up early the next morning. To her surprise, Xavier had gotten up even earlier. As she went downstairs, he was already about to leave.
âCan you go out on your own?â Yvette casually asked as she saw him neatly dressed in a suit.
Xavier stopped in his tracks. âThe company car will pick me up.â
Yvette was shocked again. Ordinary people not only wouldnât get a company car to pick them up but would also have their pay docked if they were late. Yet, Xavier had someone to pick him up!

Since Zacharyâs kindergarten was quite far away, Yvette had to ask Ray for help. Ray didnât refuse; his task was to protect Yvette, after all.
Meanwhile, when Xavier stepped out, the driver and Mark were waiting by the roadside. Once he was in the car, he asked Mark, âQuick questionâhow does Yvetteâs bodyguard look?â
Back when they had been abroad, Xavier had Mark investigate Ray, but the information heâd gotten had been limited. Since Xavierâs memory hadnât fully recovered, he couldnât remember Rayâs appearance.
Hearing the sudden question, Mark vividly described Ray. âHeâs tall and muscular, with deepâset features.â Essentially, he was saying Ray was handsome.
Xavierâs face darkened. âFind me some reliable bodyguards.â
âWe have many under us. What kind of reliable ones do you need, sir?â Mark asked, thinking it was for work.
To his surprise, Xavier added, âGet the plainâlooking ones. I prefer them ugly.â
âHuh?â Mark was caught offâguard for a moment.
Xavier reiterated, âItâs safer to have ugly ones.â
