Chapter 340
If Yvette hadnât known Yaraâs true nature, she wouldnât be able to see through her hypocrisy now. A hint of disdain flashed across Yvetteâs stunning, deep eyes.
âWho are you attempting to trade me with this time? Or perhaps you want to use me for your personal gain?â
Yara was immediately exposed and could no longer maintain the facade. âHave I ever told you not to look at me like that?â She stared into Yvetteâs eyes, wishing she could gouge them out and crush them.
Yvette ignored her. âWould you prefer to leave on your own, or shall I escort you out?â
Yara eventually returned emptyâhanded. Her mind was consumed by Yvetteâs icy gaze on the journey back.
She had been upset when Terrence had informed her that Yvette had Jamesâ will, in which he had chosen to give the company to Yvette instead of Terrence.
Yara had felt a strong urge to dig up Jamesâ grave out of frustration. She muttered to herself, âEven after death, you wonât let me live in peace.â
Some people spent their entire lives trying to recover from traumatic events from their childhood. Yvette watched as Yara drove away and stayed there motionless for a long time.
Suddenly, Claude approached her silently and placed a coat on her back. Yvette turned around and noticed that he had come and was standing behind her. âClaude, when did you get here?â
âUnfortunately, I got here before Yara left,â Claude replied.
She averted her gaze. âIâm sorry that you had to witness that confrontation.â
Claude gently brushed the snow off her hair and asked, âAre you treating me like an outsider? Ave been close friends since childhood, right?â
Yvette nodded with teary eyes. After that, she asked, âWhy are you here?â
âViola invited me to come,â replied Claude.
Yvette instantly understood Violaâs intentions. As Claude was about to step inside the house, she stopped him.
âClaude, ignore what Viola said. She was simply concerned for my wellâbeing and wanted to find someone to look after me. But I want you to know that Iâm more than capable of taking care of myself and others.â
Claudeâs throat tightened as he heard her words. It was an indirect rejection, and he couldnât help but feel a pang of bitterness. However, he refused to accept it.
âYvvy, what are you thinking? Weâre good friends. Vigla just invited me for dinner.â He gently caressed Yvetteâs head.

Yvette blushed when she heard his words, realizing she had misunderstood. She had believed Viola wanted Claude to be with her and was repeatedly giving them opportunities.
She had wanted to clarify it, only to discover she had assumed wrong. The tension instantly dissipated. âSounds good. Iâll go buy some groceries later. Just let me know what youâd like to eat.â Claude felt uneasy when Yvette suddenly relaxed. âAnything is fine. I love whatever you cook.â
He had a sudden idea and exclaimed, âSince I drove here, why donât we go buy groceries together?â
âAlright.â
Yvette got in the car. However, before driving away, she suddenly remembered that no one was available to pick up Zachary.
Xavier was quite something. He had simply brought Zachary back and wasnât even picking him up from school every day. She could only call Ray and ask for his assistance to pick up Zachary.
It had been a while since Yvette had last visited the supermarket to purchase groceries. The first item on her list was carrots, as both Xavier and Zachary were picky eaters. She needed to make sure they ate it tonight. Claude was tasked with selecting the remaining groceries.
While buying groceries, Claude received a call from Yerick. âIâm busy. Whatâs up?â
âIâm at your company now. What are you busy with?â Yerick asked, sounding like a concerned partner checking in on him.
Claude replied impatiently, âIâm buying groceries with Yvette. Weâre having dinner together tonight.â âDidnât you say that Xavier is living in her house? Claude, you should have some sense of morality. I mean, heâs her husband. Itâs unacceptable for you to have an affair with her-â
Before he could finish speaking, Claude ended the call.
