“Don’t worry. He never loved me. He won’t keep looking for me. Give it some time, and he’ll give up,” Yvette replied. She felt Xavier was simply pursuing her because of his unwillingness to accept the

situation.

She had left him a large sum of money, though.

Kiki stared at the ceiling for a moment before asking. “So, do you plan to find Zac and Noah a father figure?”

Yvette was taken aback by the question.

Over these years, she had been alone, and her focus had been solely on raising her two children. She had never considered remarriage.

She shook her head. “I have enough money now to take care of them well. I don’t want to find a stepfather who might not treat them well.

“Besides.” Yvette rested her hand on her abdomen.

Kiki’s eyes went wide. “Did you really get pregnant?”

Yvette nodded slightly. “Yes. I went to the hospital for a check–up as soon as I arrived here. I’m already one month pregnant.”

Kiki, somewhat curious, placed her hand on Yvette’s abdomen. “That’s great. Noah can have his surgery in another nine months.”

“Actually, it’s eight months,” Yvette corrected her, explaining the misconception about pregnancy lasting

ten months. 1

“I see.” Kiki retracted her hand and then updated Yvette on the news from back home.

“You’ve seen the news, right? Daphne is in serious trouble this time. Xavier, too. People are criticizing him a lot online.”

Yvette might have expected this outcome, but she hadn’t anticipated Xavier losing control of public

opinion.

“Isn’t Lane Group usually good at controlling the narrative to their advantage?”

Kiki shook her head. “I’m not sure. My dad mentioned that Lane Group has hired a new CEO, and Xavier is managing everything behind the scenes.”

“Forget about him. Let’s get some sleep.”

“Okay.”

Kiki planned to rest here for two days before returning to Tirion.

Initially, she had returned to help Yvette and sort things out with Leonard. Now that she had found a job, she wanted to return and prove to Michael that she could thrive independently without needing to marry

Tristan.

Xavier was at Dewberry Manor when he learned of Yvette’s whereabouts. Without wasting any time, he arranged for a plane to go abroad.

Mark knocked on the door just then.

“Come in,” Xavier called out, still in his clothes from before.

Once inside, Mark saw the room littered with bottles. It was a chaotic scene, far from what one would expect of a home.

Concerned, Mark spoke up, “Mr. Lane, there have been some issues at the company lately. Would you consider going to the office?”

Although Xavier had hired capable people, without his presence, many elders of the Lane family struggled to maintain control, making it difficult to manage the company.

However, Xavier’s mind was elsewhere. “I’m busy,” he replied curtly.

Mark was surprised again. When had Xavier ever neglected work?

Remembering how Xavier had previously reprimanded him for meddling, Mark hesitated to press further.

At that moment, there was a knock at the door. Mark checked and found a somewhat familiar man standing outside.

“May I know who you are?” Mark inquired.

“I’m Matthew Jeffries, Yvette’s attorney. We met a few years ago,” the man introduced himself.

Upon hearing that he was Yvette’s lawyer, Mark immediately recalled the settlement for the divorce

We had paid Xavier.

Before Mark could react, Matthew entered the room, took in Xavier’s current state, and retrieved a document from his briefcase.

“Mr. Lane, Yvette asked me to have you sign this document.” Hearing that Matthew was here on Yvette’s behalf, Xavier turned to look at him.

“What is that?” he asked.

Matthew stepped forward, offering the document to Xavier and summarizing its contents.

“My client has entrusted me with a significant sum of money as restitution for the wedding gifts you gave before marrying her. She hopes that all past matters between you two will be settled once you accept the money,” Matthew concluded.
