Chapter 23
Mark overheard the secretaries conversation and put a stop to it. It wasnât that he liked to meddle in other peopleâs
business, but he knew how to read Xavierâs mood better than the others did.
These days, besides work, all Xavier did was have people search for Yvette as well as wreck Claudeâs business. In Markâs eyes, such behavior was definitely not because Xavier hated Yvette. â
Days flew by, but Xavi
ever gave up on finding Yvette.
On New Yearâs Eve, a flurry of snow swirled in the air. In the past, Yvette would always go to Lane Mansion with Xavier for New Yearâs Eve.
But things were different that year. Xavier went there alone.
There was no jovial chatter from him, unlike the time when Yvette had just left. Xavier pretty much kept to himself and spoke very little. He radiated a coldness that made people too afraid to approach him.
He came hastily and returned home just as hastily.
Outside Dewberry Manor, snow was beginning to pile up. It was a beautiful sight to behold. However, for some reason, something felt missing.
Xavier stood in front of his floorâtoâceiling window and smoked cigarette after cigarette.
âYvette, youâd better hope I donât find you!â
THE
Behind him, someone pushed the door open. When he turned around, he saw Shannon walk in. She was dressed to the
nines.
âXavier, what happened to you? I feel like youâve become a whole other person after Yvette died.â
Xavier was unconcerned about her comment. He hadnât changed a single bit!
Shannon couldnât help but voice the suspicion growing in her heart. âDonât tell me youâve fallen for her? But sheâs gone now.â
âSheâs not worthy!â
vier replied without hesitation.
Shannon wanted to say something, but he ordered her to leave.
The moment she left, he sat alone in the living room and drank alcohol. He didnât know how many glasses he had, but he got so intoxicated that he passed out.
The heater was on, but he felt so cold. âYvette, oh, Yvetteâ¦â
At 12:00 am, his alarm rang. He woke up from his drunken dream, where he thought he had seen Yvette. However, when he had reached out to grab her, she had disappeared into thin air.
At the same time, in Bay Villa, Tristan hadnât slept either. His phone was ringing off the hook with calls from Daphne. When he didnât answer, she spammed him with messages.
Without even looking at them, he turned his phone off. Then, he took out the crystal pendant he took with him everywhere
now and gripped it tightly. Gently, he rubbed it with his fingers.

Four years later, two adults and a young boy stood out conspicuously at Asnea Airport.
The young woman had her hair pinned back with a simple hair clip and was wearing a hearing aid. She was exquisitely beautiful, especially her bright eyes.
However, they also reflected a deep melancholy that others her age didnât have.
Sitting next to her was a threeâyearâold boy. He was wearing a simple set of casual clothes, yet he still managed to look dignified. He was intently reading the financial news.
Sitting on the other side of the young boy was Viola, who was now in her 50s.
âItâs almost time, Zac. You stay home and be good to Grandma, okay?â Yvette glanced at the time, then gently rubbed her sonâs head.
When her son, Zachary Snyder, heard that, he obediently put his newspaper away. He quietly covered the page featuring Xavier, then said in a serious voice, âI will.â
He was just over three years old, yet he behaved like a mini- adult.
Yvette looked at Zachary, who was the spitting image of Xavier. She hugged him, reluctant to let go. âTake care of your little brother too.â

Viola patted Yvetteâs shoulder. âGo on. Iâll take care of the two rascals.â
Yvette nodded. Pulling her suitcase behind her, she boarded the flight headed for Tirion.
