Half an hour later, Yvette and Claude finally arrived at Kiki’s villa. Before Yvette even opened the door, she could hear voices from inside.

“Take it slow; we need to surprise your mom. Put the cake here. That’s right!”

Yvette couldn’t help but smile. Those two rascals had led about being too tired to go to the airport. It turned out they were secretly preparing a birthday surprise for her.

“It seems like they’re up for some disappointment,” Claude remarked beside her.

“Should we wait a bit before going in?” Yvette suggested, looking at him.

Claude looked into her clear eyes and felt a lump in his throat. “Sure.” With that, the two of them stood outside, enjoying the evening breeze.

Yvette looked worried. “I want to go back soon too, but we need to find a way to treat Noah.”

“We understand.” Claude gazed down at her. “Don’t worry. It will all come to an end.”

Yvette nodded.

Since they were alone, Claude was about to give Yvette something he had brought for her. However, they/ were interrupted by the sound of the door opening behind them.

“Kiki, you’re so clumsy! How could you drop the cake?

“I didn’t mean to! You mopped the floor and made it too slippery. We’ll have to go out and buy another one

As the duo walked out, they were greeted by the sight of Yvette and Claude standing at the door.

Zachary was the first to react. “Mr. Lander!”

“Hello,” Claude greeted him, patting his head.

Kiki stared at Claude for a long moment before finally speaking. “Hello, Mr. Lander. Thank you for taking care of Yvvy all this time.”

“I’m only doing what I should. She’s my friend after all, Claude replied.

“Right, right.” Kiki felt a bit awkward. “Come on in and have a seat.” She then pulled Yvette aside. “Sorry, Yvvy. We were-”

“I heard everything.” Yvette replied.

Kiki was at a loss for words. “About the cake-

“It’s late. It doesn’t matter if we don’t have cake. Let’s just rest early.”

“Aw, fine.”

Once Claude was settled in, Kiki gave Zachary a meaningful look. “Zac, are you feeling sleepy?”

Zachary thought that Kiki was being too obvious, but he still yawned and said, “Yes, I am.”

“Shall I take you to bed then?” Kiki offered. She then turned to Claude and Yvette. “We’ve prepared a room for you. Go ahead and have a chat. I’ll take Zac to bed,

Yvette was puzzled. “For us?”

“Yup! It has a ten–foot–wide bed. You can do whatever you want.”

“Stop it. We’re just friends,” Yvette protested.

“I get it, I get it. I’m going to bed now. Bye!” With that, Kiki quickly headed to her room.

Yvette felt helpless. It seemed she would have to sleep on the couch tonight. “Claude, you’ve been on a plane all day. You must be tired. Let me show you to your room.”

Claude stepped closer and stared deeply into her eyes. “Didn’t we agree that I’d spend your birthday with you?”

“Shall we wait until midnight, then?” Yvette suggested.

“Alright.”

It was minutes away from midnight.

Claude watched the time; he was planning to express his feelings to Lucy at that moment. However, before he could do so, Yvette’s phone rang urgently.

“I need to take this call,” Yvette murmured, looking a bit embarrassed as she picked up her phone and saw Xavier’s name on the screen.
