Chapter 148
Yvette
put on some slippers and left her room. She walked out and realized that Xavier wasnât home yet.
She asked, âWhat time?â
âWeâre meeting around 10:00 am,â Kiki responded.
âOkay, Iâll be right over.â
After hanging up, she thought about it before deciding to send Xavier a text. She told him that she was going to a friendâs.
Since she was going to Kikiâs place, it meant that she could pop by and visit Zachary too. It had only been a few days, but it felt like she hadnât seen him in ages. She wondered how he had been doing lately.
Sternhow Club was extremely quiet. It was early in the morning. Tristan hadnât managed to get enough rest and had been dragged there for drinks.
âWhy are we drinking at such an early hour, Xav?â He was still in his doctorâs coat. âYou donât know how busy Iâve been lately.â
Xavier stared at Tristanâs unruly demeanor. âWhatâs keeping you so occupied? Itâs not like you have a wife
or something.â
âThen why are you here when you have a wife?â countered Tristan.
There was a lump in Xavierâs throat.
Upon noticing that something was amiss, Tristan promptly changed the topic. âIâve been preparing for medical school. You have no idea how many operations Iâve performed the past few days.â
Naturally, he had been secretly investigating Kiki as well. He wanted to know when he had gotten involved with her. How had they even ended up having a kid? He couldnât remember a single thing.
âWhy?â Xavier asked. He hadnât expected Tristan to turn over a new leaf so quickly.
âWhy what?â
âI thought you swore youâd never be a doctor.â
Tristan tried to cover his face with a glass. âI was young and stupid. Med school isnât that badâI can treat patients and save their lives.â
He didnât tell Xavier the truth.
Ever since Yvette had come back, he had been studying her hearing issues and the bleeding in her ear. He wanted to become a doctor as soon as possible and try to help her become normal again. That was the only thing he could do for her as of now.
Xavier could tell that Tristan was hiding something. However, he chose not to pry
He picked up his phone and saw Yvetteâs text. Initially, he had thought it would be an apology. To his dismay, she had only informed him that she was heading over to her friendâs place again.

Tristan leaned over. âIs Yvette checking on you?â
âShe said sheâs off to a friendâs,â he replied blankly.
âOh,â Tristan was thinking. âIs it that friend Kiki Torres?â
âYeah,â
âMy grandfather keeps trying to get me to meet her.â
âIs she not up to your standards?â Xavier raised his eyebrows slightly.
âNot really my type.â
Upon hearing this, Xavier offered him a word of advice. âYou donât necessarily need to marry someone you like. What matters most is that you complement each other.â
Tristan couldnât help but ask, âDoes Yvette complement you then, Xav?â
Xavier fell silent for a moment. âShe used to.
âAre you no longer getting along?â
Xavier didnât respond. He emptied the contents of his glass and said, âI should be heading back.â
Tristan wasnât satisfied. Right as Xavier was about to leave, he asked again, âIs it possible to be happy if Iâm with someone I donât love, Xav?â
Xavier stared at him quizzically.
Tristan continued, âIf youâre not happy in the relationship, I think itâs better if you just break it off. Itâll be better for both of you.â
Unlike Xavier, Tristan thought that they should marry someone they liked. If he had to marry for his career, he would be miserable his entire life!
After Xavier got in the car, he thought about what Tristan had said. Then, he looked at the text Yvette had sent him.
After thinking about it for a long time, he sent her a reply.
âOkay.â
