At Dewberry Manor, Xavier was still awake when Yvette got home. He was dressed in a pair of dark- colored pajamas and was currently seated on the couch.
His gaze fell on her as she walked in. âDid you have fun today?â
âIt was okay,â she responded.
He got up, and his towering figure cast a shadow over her. âI heard from Daphne that you wanted to trade
me for ten billion dollars.â
Yvette Choked. Why was he asking if he already knew?
âNo, I didnât.â
âReally?â He leaned toward her.
Yvette instinctively took a step back. âFirst of all, you should know that Iâm not on good terms with Daphne. Why would I ask her for ten billion in exchange for you?
âBesides, I didnât even take your motherâs check. So, why would I go out of my way to do this?â
Xavier let her finish, but he wasnât convinced.
There was no other way Daphne would have let him see that exchange earlier today. Yvette had probably found out about her schemeâthat was the only possible explanation,
âIs there anything else?â Yvette had been backed against the wall.
He swallowed at the sight of her careful demeanor. He was incredibly tempted by the thought of taking her as his own.
âHow are your funds coming along?â
She hadnât expected him to ask for money this soon. âI donât have enough yet.â
âHow about a proposal?â His breath was heavy. âSince weâre married, you wouldnât have to pay me the cost of the wedding gifts if you fulfilled your duties as a wife.â
Her duties as a wife?
As an adult, Yvette was fully aware
of what he was insinuating.
Her face was hot. Before she could respond, Xavier reached out to stroke her burning cheek.
âHow about a million every time?â
Herbrain shortâcircuited. A million dollars for each time they went to bed? What kind of person did he take her for?
Then, she was reminded of the first time he had forced himself on her.
âNo, thank you.â She shoved him away and stormed upstairs in rage. Once she got back to her room, she locked the door behind her.
Xavier was now alone. He didnât understandâwhy had she gotten mad again?

Yvette was the feistiest woman he had ever met. She got upset at the smallest things, and she had even given him an attitude. No other woman had the guts to show him attitude.
Upset, he headed straight for Sternhow Club.
The manager swiftly gathered the most beautiful and clever women available so that Xavier could take his pick. While seated, Xavier scanned through rows and rows of women, but he wasnât in the mood.
âMr. Lane.â A seductive woman approached him and tried to flirt.
He eyed her emotionlessly. All he could think about was Yvetteâs angry expression. When the woman touched his hand, he felt unusually disgusted.
He yelled, âPiss off!â
Soon, all the women in the suite left dejectedly.
Xavier was sitting there alone when Tracy slipped into the room. As soon as she saw him, she fell to her knees.
With a terrified expression, she pleaded, âPlease spare me, Mr. Lane.â
He wasnât fazed at all. âWho are you?â
Tracy froze. âIâIâm Tracy Jones⦠Have you forgotten about me?â
Tracy Jones?
Xavier had an impeccable memory. However, he didnât bother remembering anyone from work. He couldnât care less about those he wasnât associated with either.
Tracy stared at himâhe genuinely looked like he didnât remember. Hence, she could only tell him what had happened the other day.
âYou asked if I was willing to serve you even if I didnât get paid. I said okay, and you told me to work at Sternhow Club for free.â
Her story rang a bell.
âAre you here because you regret that decision?â asked Xavier.
Tracy immediately shook her head. âNot at all. Iâm here to ask you to spare me. I really donât want to be a hostess.â
He was confused. When had he ever asked her to be a hostess?
