Chapter 140
Xavier lifted his head to look at Yvette. âWhat did she want from you?â
She showed him the blank check Shanon gave her. âShe gave nte this and asked me to leave. you.â
He stared at the check and asked, âDid you tell her you would?â
She shook her head. âOf course I didnât. We had an agreement.â If sheâd left him, how was she supposed to have a third child? She needed to save Noah too.
She pushed the check toward him. âHere. You can have it back.â
He picked it up. After briefly looking at it, he chucked it into the trash. Then, his gaze darkened as it fell on her face. The allergy symptoms hadnât cleared up yet.
âYou made the right choice. Even if you had actually filled in a number on that check, I wouldnât have given you the money.â
Upon hearing this, Yvette clenched her fists. He was dismissing all her hopes of leaving!
Xavier wiped his hands with a warm towel before standing up to walk toward her. Before she realized what was going on, his fingers fell on the rash on her neck.
It still looked the same. âHave you put on an ointment?â

His fickle demeanor was making her extremely uncomfortable. She gently shifted away
him before replying, âI did.â
Her subtle action didnât go unnoticed by him. Just as he was about to forcibly touch her again, the doorbell rang.
Who could it possibly be at this hour?
The strange atmosphere of the living room had Yvette springing to her feet. âIâll get it.â
She made her way around him and swiftly walked over to open the door.
In the middle of that midsummer night, Daphne stood pitifully in front of the door. Her eyes were teary, and she was dressed in a lightâcolored nightgown.
Upon seeing Yvette at the door, her expression shifted slightly. Then, she said in a gentle
voice, âIâm looking for Xav.â
What a beautiful and pitiful woman! It was no wonder she had managed to win the hearts of both Xavier and Tristan.
Just as Yvette turned around, Xavier made his way over.
Daphne immediately started crying at the sight of him. âXavâ¦â

His eyebrows furrowed. He didnât know what she was doing here at this hour.
She headed straight toward him with tears running down her face. âXav⦠not long after your left, he came to my house againâ¦â
She lifted her arm as she spoke. It was covered in bruises.
âHe wanted to take me with him, but I refused. Then, he tried to get me to jump off the building with him. Iâm so scaredâ¦â she cried.
âWhere was the bodyguard?â He took out his phone to get some clarification on the situation.
Daphne hurriedly explained, âI was about to head to bed. I didnât expect him to climb in through the window. The bodyguard was at the door, so he didnât see the man.â
Xavier seemed somewhat irritated as he looked at the bruises covering her arm. âIâll get someone to take you to the hospital.â
â She promptly shook her head. âI donât want to go, Xav. I donât think I can go anywhere tonight. Could you please let me stay here? Itâll just be for today. Iâm so afraid heâll find me again.â
Yvette was listening in from the side. She roughly understood what was happening. It seemed like Daphne was being followed by a man.
âIâll get you a hotel room.â Xavier was just about to make a call when Daphne grabbed his hand.
âYou said youâd give me anything I asked for, Xav. Weâre not married yet. I want to stay here. tonightâjust for one day. Iâm really terrifiedâ¦â She pleaded as tears streamed down her face.
Xavier had never made any exceptions for anyone before. Today, however, he agreed to her request.
âAlright.â
