Chapter 552:
It wasnât until eight in the morning that Gabriela stirred awake. Ruby carried her out from the bedroom and found Eileen seated at the dining table.
Eileen had prepared four breakfasts, including a special meal just for Gabriela.
She set the table as she would have when Bryan was home, intentionally omitting the ketchup from his portion.
Eileen rested her chin on her hands, gazing at the table.
âEileen, you donât have to wait for us,â Ruby said as she took a seat. âThe food is getting cold.â
âItâs fine. I wanted to have breakfast with you,â Eileen replied, then got up to reheat the food.
She added, âI had this feeling that Bryan wasnât really away on a trip, so I made an extra plate. I wonât reheat his portion; Iâll just freeze it. When he gets back, he can have it then. After all, I rarely cook breakfast for him.â
Before Ruby could respond, the doorbell rang.
The urgency in the sound caused Eileenâs hands to shake.
Two plates slipped from her grasp, crashing to the floor and breaking.
âAre you okay? Did you get hurt?â Ruby quickly pulled Eileen away from the shattered glass.
But Eileenâs attention was fixed on the door, not the broken dishes. The door rattled with persistent knocking.
âMom, look after Gabriela. Iâll open the door,â Eileen said.

Upon seeing Josue outside, Eileen involuntarily held her breath.
Her hand tightened on the doorknob as she asked, âWhat brings you here?â
âEileen, Iâ¦â Josue began, struggling to find the right words.
They exchanged a look, the silence thickening the tension between them.
âIs Bryan away on business, or did he go after Coen?â Eileen asked, but it seemed like she already knew the answer.
âSheâs stronger than you might think, but also more delicate than she appears.â
Josue suddenly recalled Bryanâs words and slowly nodded, as if finally understanding.
âWhere is he now? Did he manage to catch Coen?â Eileen asked.
âBryan planted a bomb on Coenâs helicopter. Coen and his men are dead,â Josue said, then paused, unable to continue.
Eileen smiled suddenly and said, âI knew heâd succeed. He should tell me the details himself.â
âStop fooling yourself,â Josue replied.
When Eileen started to close the door, Josue stopped her, asking, âDo you want to keep waiting for nothing, or are you ready to hear what I have to say?â
Eileenâs smile faded quickly. She turned and went back inside, leaving the door open for Josue. He followed her in and closed the door.
Eileen asked Ruby to take Gabriela upstairs and then sat down across from Josue. âI donât need all the details. Just tell me where he is.â
