Chapter 544:
Slowly, the sensation returned under Eileenâs tender touch.
Bryan clenched his hand, signaling her to stop. âItâs fine now; the numbness has passed.â
Eileen lay down next to him, and together, they wrapped Gabriela in a gentle embrace, playing with her quietly.
Gabriela, though still slightly shaken, began to show signs of recovery, much to Eileenâs relief.
But Eileen still didnât go to the office. Julio and Benjamin, fully aware of her situation, had stepped in to manage her responsibilities.
EB Group remained leaderless, and it troubled Eileen to learn that Raymond was calling Bryan from time to time instead of updating her about work.
After breakfast, Bryan took a lengthy call from Raymond. He emerged from the study thirty minutes later with a serious expression.
âI need to go to EB Group later. Tonight, I might have to leave for a business trip,â Bryan said.
âA business trip?â Eileen felt an odd tightness in her chest as she stood and faced Bryan. âIs it something very important? Couldnât it wait a few days?â
Her expressive eyes showed a mix of reluctance and sheer panic.
She could soothe Gabriela, while Bryan brought peace to her soul.
Her look tightened Bryanâs chest, rendering him speechless for a moment.
âAre you keeping something from me?â Eileen furrowed her eyebrows. She then glanced at Ruby, who was tending to Gabriela.
. com is your storytelling hub Ruby, however, only knew that Bryan had some negotiations with Coen after she left the factory with Gabriela.
Ruby shook her head at Eileen.
âCome with me.â Eileen led Bryan upstairs, closed the bedroom door, and backed him against the wall. âIf you dareââ
âBlame myself,â Bryan said, cutting her off. âI think, if I hadnât pushed for us to go to Wist Land, you would have been living a normal life now, not caught up in all this. Iâm not sure if my mistake was failing to protect you or dragging you into this mess.â
He bowed his head, holding her arms tenderly.
He was afraid that if he held her close, he might not be able to do what needed to be done next.
Eileen couldnât meet his sad eyes.
She dropped her gaze, gathered herself, and then looked up again. âI donât regret any of the steps weâve taken. From now on, I just want our family to be okay.â
Bryanâs throat moved as he was unable to say a simple âokay.â
Eventually, he shifted the conversation. âYouâre completely focused on Gabriela right now. Let me take care of the business matters for a bit. Otherwise⦠being idle will make me overthink.â
