Chapter 148:
âItâs none of your business,â Emmett then moved ahead in silence. He had just looked up when he saw Eileen standing nearby.
Pausing, he asked, âMs. Curtis, why are you here again?â
âAgain?â Karla hurried, glancing between Emmett and Eileen.
âI didnât come to the hospital for yourâ¦,â Eileen began.
But before Eileen could finish speaking, Karla interjected, âThen why are you here?â
She approached Eileen and asked, âDid you send him to the hospital? Did he run away home to see you yesterday? Why did you torture him like this? The doctor mentioned he was in the rain all night. His body is already weak. Do you know that?â
As Karla walked over, a gust of wind brushed Eileenâs face. Eileen looked at her coldly.
Taking a deep breath, Eileen responded, âHe was lying outside my tutoring center. I took him to the hospital, paid the bill, and left. I donât know anything else.â
It was around nine in the evening now, and the hospital corridors were silent. Karlaâs raised voice had caused some patients to peek from their windows.
Several nurses gathered at the door, murmuring amongst themselves.
Eileen preferred not to cause a scene, especially since Ruby was also a patient here.
But Karla didnât let her go. She exclaimed, âStop lying! When I was checking my son out, the nurse said you claimed to be his girlfriend!â
âThe nurse assumed that on her own. I never admitted it,â Eileen said, her expression tightening.
Fresh chapters are live at gαâηÏvðâsâ¤com âIâm not interested in your excuses! Eileen, youâre not suitable for my son. I wonât let you marry him! If you donât back off, Iâll make sure you canât stay in Wist Land!â In a fit of anger, Karla threw her bag at Eileen.
Eileen dodged it easily, and the bag crashed into a nearby car, setting off its alarm.
âI have no intention of marrying your son!â Eileenâs eyes were cold as ice as she expressed her stance to Karla. Then, she turned to Emmett. âIf you genuinely wish to avoid troubling me, please stop approaching me from now on. Your apologies will only cause more harm than good.â
She purposely made her point serious to ensure it was clear.
Then, she walked toward the inpatient department.
Emmett and Karla stood frozen, watching her leave.
âWhy⦠Why did she go there?â Karla asked, bewildered.
Emmett had a sudden realization and said, âMy mother is sick and is hospitalized here, which is why she visits the hospital every weekend.â
It dawned on him that Eileen wasnât there for him at all.
He said to Karla, âHavenât you realized that youâve misunderstood her?â
Karla, still unyielding, retorted, âWhether I misunderstood her or not doesnât matter. I just want you to end things with her. Itâs better if she stays away from you. If she bothers you, I swear I will kill her!â
Emmett felt a headache and got into the car in frustration.
He suddenly realized that what Eileen had said made sense. By staying away, he would not cause her further trouble.
Once in the car, he remained silent, choosing not to engage with Karla.
Karlaâs hostility toward Eileen wasnât just because of her son; it was mainly because of Kianâs instructions.
Upon entering the hospital room, Eileen placed her bag on the sofa and immediately went to the bedside. She grasped Rubyâs hand, saying, âMom, Iâm here. Blink if you can hear me.â
Ruby blinked, showing a slight response, which brought joy to Eileen.
âEileen, was that Mr. Bryant I saw downstairs earlier?â Bailee had seen him but wasnât sure.
âYes,â Eileen responded, standing up to look at Bailee.
âBut heâs no longer with the education agency.â
The ward was silent, yet Karlaâs harsh words still resonated in Eileenâs mind.
Perhaps due to a deep-seated calm, Eileen managed to maintain a composed expression.
Unable to contain her concern, Bailee blurted out, âWas that Mr. Bryantâs mother who was yelling at you earlier? Why was she so furious?â
âThereâs been a small misunderstanding. We wonât see each other in the future, so it wonât happen again,â Eileen replied.
Eileen didnât think Emmett was a stubborn person. She was confident he wouldnât insist on apologizing after what had happened tonight. As long as Emmett stayed away, Karla wouldnât have an opportunity to cause further issues for her.
âEileen, if you find yourself in trouble, please let me know. Even if I canât protect you, I can help you find a solution,â Bailee said.
Bailee didnât want Eileen to face her problems alone.
Eileen gave a reassuring smile. âOkay.â
The two stood on opposite sides of the bed. Suddenly, Bailee released Rubyâs hand, walked around the bed, and guided Eileen to sit in a chair by the window.
âWhy didnât you tell me that Bryan has come to Wist Land?â Bailee asked Eileen.
âHowâ¦â Eileen was taken aback. âHow did you find out about this?â
Bailee pouted and said, âFirst, you tell me whatâs going on between you two. Then, Iâll explain how I found out about this.â
What indeed was going on between her and Bryan? This question left Eileen momentarily at a loss for words.
She hesitated briefly before saying, âAt best, weâre old acquaintances now. He is probably upset because I called him a despicable person before leaving Onaland. But once he leaves here, he and I will have nothing to do with each other.â
âHas he been troubling you?â Bailee was concerned.
Eileen shook her head and said, âNo, he hasnât. Actually, he helped me a bit. But we didnât interact much beyond that.â
Eileen and Bailee continued talking about Rubyâs condition for a while, then got ready for bed.
Since it was Saturday, Eileen stayed with Ruby and discussed with Denzel on the phone about having Milford and Adalina attend tutoring sessions together.
This arrangement would offer Milford and Adalina five classes a week at no extra charge. Eileen suggested Denzel weigh the advantages and disadvantages, but Denzel immediately agreed, and they decided to start the tutoring sessions on Monday.
On Sunday afternoon, Phoebe called Eileen, inviting her to a club in central Wist Land for some fun.
Jacob shouted over the phone that he was paying, telling Eileen that he wanted a gathering of old friends.
Hearing this, Eileen knew she couldnât refuse.
Even after Jacob mentioned that Bryan would be there, she decided to attend, hoping to discuss her tutoring plans for Milford with Bryan.
She bid Bailee farewell and left the hospital.
By evening, around nine, the city center was alive with activity and cars zipping past.
The entrance of the high-end club was lined with luxury cars.
Eileenâs car didnât stand out here, but she looked strikingly beautiful in her wool coat.
As she stepped out of her car, she drew many admiring glances.
Next to the club was a high-end beauty salon. Karla, just leaving the salon, spotted Eileen.
Karla instructed her driver to stop, took a photo of Eileen in front of the club, and sent it to Emmett with a message.
âLook at that! Do you think a decent woman would come to a place like this for fun? Maybe sheâs here to meet a pimp!â
The gentle glow in the photographs softened Eileenâs features, enhancing her stunning beauty with a mesmerizing effect.
Emmett found himself captivated by Eileenâs photo for a moment.
Then, noticing the message from Karla, he quickly responded, âSheâs not that type of person.â
This response infuriated Karla. Looking up, she noticed Eileen had been stopped by a man at the entrance of the club.
The young man was in a floral shirt, paired with black suit trousers. His slightly squinted eyes gave him a lewd look. As he moved closer to Eileen, he inhaled deeply twice.
Eileen, disgusted, took a few steps back and said, âSir, please donât get too close.â
âWeâre all here for a good time. Donât act like youâre not interested.â The young man took a couple of steps closer to Eileen, lifted an eyebrow, and asked, âAre you here alone? Would you like to join me in my private room?â
âNo, Iâm actually looking for a friend,â Eileen replied firmly.
Despite her cold response, the man didnât walk away and seemed more intrigued. âWho are you looking for? Let me take you inside. This place is mine. Youâre very attractive, and men will try to harass you. I can keep you safe.â
As he spoke, he reached out to touch Eileenâs shoulder, but Eileen quickly stepped aside.
Eileenâs patience was wearing thin. âNo, thank you. If youâre trying to find a woman as your target, you should look elsewhere. Iâm not interested!â
She then turned and made her way into the club.
The young man thought to follow her, but one of his associates reminded him, âMr. Blake, your friends are almost here.â
Hearing this, the young man, Arthur Blake, watched Eileen walk away and instructed, âFind out which private room she goes into.â
He then grabbed a cigarette from his pocket and descended the stairs. Just as he lit the cigarette, someone approached him.
âMr. Blake?â Karla stood before Arthur, holding her purse.
Arthur took a puff of his cigarette and recognized Karla. He said with a smile, âMrs. Deleon, what a surprise to see you here.â
âI just finished at the salon next door.â Karla gestured to the nearby beauty salon.
The salonâs red sign illuminated Arthurâs handsome face.
He frowned slightly but said nothing.
Karla said, âI noticed you were hitting on the woman who just walked into the club. Thought Iâd come over and talk to you.â
âDo you know her?â Arthur became interested.
âYes, I know her well. Sheâs quite the flirt. If you run with her over, Iâll support you at your familyâs companyâs next shareholder meeting,â Karla said.
Karla owned shares in the Blake familyâs business, and Arthur wasnât the sole heir of his family. His claim to the Blake familyâs wealth hinged on the number of allies he had within the company.
Arthurâs attention peaked immediately after hearing what Karla had said.
When Eileen came out of the elevator on the fifth floor, she saw Raymond standing at the door. âHi, Raymond,â she greeted.
