Chapter 140:
âWhat on earth are you doing?â
The tranquil atmosphere was shattered by an irate voice, causing Eileen to nearly drop the pen in her grasp.
Raising her head, Eileen was met with a figure swiftly approaching. Before she could react, she was seized by the collar and yanked off the sofa and onto the floor, where she was dragged a few paces, her t-shirt coming undone to reveal her slender waist.
âShameless! You seduce my son!â
The fuming reprimand jolted Eileen back to her senses, despite the pain in her side from the fall.
Looking up, she recognized the formidable figure. âMrs. Deleon?â Eileen was shocked.
âMom!â Emmett quickly approached and called his mother to make her stop. Then he instinctively reached to help Eileen up.
But Mrs. Deleon forcefully yanked Emmettâs arm back, saying, âYou are not to touch her!â
âWhat is the meaning of this?â Emmett shook off his motherâs grip, asserting, âMs. Curtis has been working overtime to tutor me. Why are you making such a scene?â
âIs she truly tutoring you or deliberately seducing you?â Mrs. Deleonâs shrill voice reverberated through the room.
Eileen felt her heart sink under Mrs. Deleonâs disdainful gaze. Gathering her long hair, she rose and smoothed her disheveled attire.
Eileenâs once soft, casual demeanor turned cold, unsettling Emmett.

âIâm not!â Mrs. Deleon scoffed, pointing accusingly at Eileen. âDo you know who she is? Sheâs the woman who seduced Bryan, driving your cousin Vivian into despair!â
Emmett was stunned, his lips moving but no words coming out.
Hearing Mrs. Deleonâs words about Vivian, Eileen suddenly recalled something.
The Warren family had a distant relative who married into a different family, a living son-in-law.
Emmett and Mrs. Deleon, whose name is Karla Bryant, were actually relatives of the Warren family.
âWhy arenât you saying anything?â Mrs. Deleon glared at Eileen. âRelying on your alluring facade, you shamelessly flirt without restraint. Failing to ensnare Bryan, youâve set your sights on my son!â
Eileenâs face paled with each scathing remark. âMrs. Deleon, regardless of the past, my relationship with your son is purely professional.â
Upon hearing that, Mrs. Deleon spat, grabbing Emmettâs phone and showing Eileen two photos.
She demanded, âThen what are these photos? Pretending to be asleep to seduce my son? How much more brazen can you get?â
Turning to Emmett, she said, âYou must not be fooled by this woman of ill repute!â
Eileen was surprised by the photos, having no knowledge of them. She looked at Emmett with confusion.
Emmett blushed, snatching back his phone. âMother, I took those photos myself, just for fun. Ms. Curtis had no idea! I just thought that she looked cute while asleep.â
He dared not even look Eileen in the eyes now.
His feeble explanation did little to appease Mrs. Deleon, who said, âItâs all her trickery! She ensnared even Bryan, so of course a naive boy like you canât see through herâ¦â
âEnough!â Eileen interjected, her patience wearing thin. âMrs. Deleon, take your son and leave! Thereâs no need for this unnecessary spectacle. Time will reveal the truth of my intentions towards your son!â
Turning to gather the documents, she added, âEmmett, from this day forth, you no longer work here!â
She knew that Emmett was innocent. But he shouldnât stay here; it would only cause problems for the two of them.
Emmettâs heart sank. âI wonât leave! My students are waiting for me to teach them!â
He then confronted his mother, pushing her toward the door. âMom, please leave. Ms. Curtis is not the person you claim. She is a responsible, qualified teacher and boss!â
Mrs. Deleon, left speechless by Emmettâs stubborn determination, was ushered toward the exit.
âStop talking. Leave!â Eileen commanded firmly.
The words deeply upset Emmett. He turned his head, his face taut with frustration, and directed his anger at his mother. âYouâre crossing the line. Iâm telling you, Iâm sticking with this job until the end! If you keep making things difficult for Ms. Curtis, I wonât acknowledge you as my mother anymore!â
As soon as Emmettâs words hit the air, a bad feeling gnawed at Eileenâs heart.
Predictably, Mrs. Deleonâs temper flared. She struck Emmettâs back hard twice, then lunged at Eileen, her hand raised high, ready to slap her. âYouâve actually bewitched my son to this extent. You need a good lesson!â
But the slap never landed. Mrs. Deleonâs wrist was caught firmly by a large hand.
Eileen instinctively wanted to step back, but before she could move, a tall figure appeared.
It was Bryan, carrying a hint of the cool outside air, easing some of the tension in Eileenâs heart.
âMr. Dawson?â Mrs. Deleon hesitated, intimidated by Bryanâs cold stare, and reluctantly withdrew her hand.
Emmett rushed to Bryan like a drowning man gasping at a lifeline. âPlease, talk some sense into my mom. Sheâs completely out of control!â
Mrs. Deleon glared at Emmett, then turned to Bryan. âIâve heard about your involvement with Eileen from Kian. You may toy with women as you please, but I will not allow this to get close to my son. I hope you wonât take Dawson.â
Mrs. Deleonâs words drained the color from Eileenâs face.
She pressed her lips together tightly and looked at Bryan.
âI donât mind,â Bryan replied coolly. Then, he turned to Emmett. âListen to your mother. Go home.â
Bryanâs response seemed to confirm Eileenâs supposed impropriety.
Eileen clenched her teeth, a fiery blush of embarrassment painting her cheeks.
Then, Emmettâs words put her in an even more precarious position. âYou two are overstepping your bounds. There is nothing between Ms. Curtis and me, and I firmly believe she is not the woman you claim her to be.â
Bryan glanced at Emmett with an air of indifference. âDo you really know her?â he asked. âYouâve only known her for a few days.â
He stood before Eileen, shielding her from the malicious gaze of Mrs. Deleon. His tone was one of nonchalance as if he couldnât have cared less about Eileen.
Mrs. Deleon was positively delighted by Bryanâs words. She turned around and shoved Emmett out the door, saying, âYou foolish boy, women like that would easily trick someone like you.â
Her venomous words trailed off into the distance as she whisked Emmett away, not even allowing him a moment to gather his belongings.
Outside the door, Milford and Raymond stood waiting. Seeing Emmett and his mother departing in a heated argument, Milford was about to step inside.
Raymond quickly stopped him. âAnd just where do you think youâre going?â he asked.
âI have a tutoring session with Eileen,â Milford replied.
âIn this situation, youâre still considering the tutoring session? Go back to the car and wait!â Raymond hooked his arm around Milfordâs shoulder, and they both retreated to their faces pressed against the glass to catch a glimpse of the drama unfolding inside.
Eileen remained hidden behind Bryanâs imposing figure.
Bryan, with his chiseled features and serious expression, tilted his head slightly to sneak a peek at Eileen through the reflection on the glass.
After a moment, Eileen said, âMr. Dawson, do you truly know me as well as you perhaps think?â
Her voice was uncannily calm, sending a ripple of uncertainty through Bryanâs heart. He lowered his head, retrieving a cigarette from his pocket and lighting it.
Turning to look at Eileen, he said, âAt least better than Emmett does.â
âThen tell me, what kind of person do you believe me to be?â Eileen raised her chin, taking a deep breath.
Bryan frowned, remaining silent.
Eileen repeated the question, âIn your eyes, what kind of woman am I?â
Bryanâs gaze was intense, his deep eyes reflecting every feature of Eileenâs face. Eileenâs eyes suddenly became red-rimmed.
âYou should be well aware of the history between Mrs. Deleon and the Warren family,â Bryan said slowly. âYou wonât gain any favors from her. Itâd be in your best interest to distance yourself from Emmett in the future.â
He thought she was worried about not benefiting from the Deleon and Warren connections? How absurd! In reality, what she was bothered by was his attitude. In front of Mrs. Deleon, he hadnât uttered a single word to defend her honor and clear her name.
Perhaps he simply didnât care about her reputation or feelings, so he felt no need to stand by her side.
âThank you for the advice, Mr. Dawson,â Eileen took a steadying breath. âI would appreciate it if you would also distance yourself from me, Mr. Dawson.â
The swirling smoke couldnât conceal the dark expression that clouded Bryanâs face, turning him into a tempest in her eyes.
He raised his hand and grasped Eileenâs chin, the smoke escaping from his lips and spreading around her face.
âThatâs not your decision to make,â he said.
Eileen gritted her teeth, seething with anger. âThen I wonât tutor Milford anymore! Iâll refund the money to you!â
âVery well,â Bryan shrugged indifferently. âMake the necessary compensation according to the contract.â
Eileen was taken aback. Ten times the amount was almost a small fortune. Where on earth could she get that kind of money?
Seeing her at a loss for words, Bryan smirked. âWhatâs the matter? Donât have enough money?â
His gaze traveled down from her smooth cheeks to the slightly loosened neckline, catching glimpses of her delicate collarbone and the graceful curves of her body.
Eileen was aware of where his eyes had landed, and she even caught the sudden surge of desire in his gaze.
She frowned slightly. âDawson, do you still wish to play this game? But Iâm done with that. Iâm not in need of money anymore.â
