Chapter 10
The past few weeks have been really quiet and uneventful. April is away on vacation, so it's been just Casper and I here. Sapphire's been home a few times but doesn't stay too long.
âI have so much to do and so little time.â, she kept saying to herself.
When I'd ask what she was talking about, she always said it was nothing and would walk out of the room.
âDamn, there's no need to be so secretive.â, I would think to myself.
I walked through the garden outside and Casper said it was fine, as long as I didn't try and leave the grounds without him. I agreed, I didn't want to encounter his brother Jasper. Especially given the dream I had a few weeks ago.
Casper thought my dream might mean Jaspers going to try and come after me. So he wants me to stay as close to the house as possible.
âAre you coming inside soon?â, he asked.
âIf you want me to.â, I said not really wanting to.
âNo it's okay, I was coming to join you.â, he said while walking towards me.
He took a seat beside me on the grass and lay back with his hands behind his head. He looked so relaxed just lying in the sun. I wanted to reach up and touch his hair it always looked so soft.
âWe're having a party on Saturday.â, he said .
âParty? Like with more than just the two of us?â, I asked.
âYes more than just the two of us.â, he said laughing.
âReally? Like who?â, I was curious.
I was a little excited the only contact I've had was when we went shopping and that didn't end to well. âWas it going to be all Vampires? Are there going to be humans? Will the Vampires try to eat me?â, I wondered. Maybe this isn't such a good idea after all.
âWho will be coming?â, I asked.
âJust some friends and family.â, he stated.
âAre they all Vampires?â
He let out a slight chuckle. âNo we do have human friends, Sapphire is pretty good at making friends.â, he said.
It looked like he was thinking.
âGreat I wonder how Sapphire makes so many human friends, maybe I don't want to know that answer to that.â, I shuddered at the thought.
We laid in the sun for about an hour longer before I noticed Casper was getting a little fidgety.
âLet's go inside.â, I said.
âWe don't have to, I know you like being outside.â, he said.
âI've been outside for four hours now, I think I can drag myself inside.â, I said smiling.
He slowly stood up and we walked back to the house side by side,
âHow do I know what to wear to a Vampire party?â, I wondered.
âWhat do I wear?â, I asked. I know it sounded like a weird question to ask and I felt stupid as soon as it left my lips.
âUh clothes.â, he replied.
âYou know what I mean. Do I wear a dress or do I wear jeans and a shirt?â, I asked totally clueless.
âYou can wear whatever you want.â
âOkay.â, I said.
Today was Wednesday so I have three days to decide what to wear. Hopefully Sapphire or April will be back by then, because I really need their help. I made my way upstairs because Casper was going to his office.
I wonder if his dad will be at the party, he did say family and friends. I know Jasper isn't invited, Casper wouldn't invite him to anything. I've grown to like Casper over the last few months, I don't know why after the way he treated me when he first brought me here.
The rest of the day seemed to fly by. I went into the kitchen to make Casper his dinner, but he had already beaten me to it.
âWhat are you doing? Dinner isn't ready just yet.â, he said.
âI was coming to make you dinner.â
âWell your too late, I've already started.â, he replied.
I knew what he was making I could smell it. My favorite pizza with barbeque sauce, ham, salami, and pepperoni with lots of cheese.
âHow did you know this was my favorite food?â, I asked truly shocked.
âI called April.â, he said with a cheeky grin.
âShe's on vacation, you're not meant to be calling her to ask about my favorite food.â, I scolded him.
âI wanted to surprise you.â, he said with a sexy as sin smile on his face.
His smile could melt anyone's heart. Damn! Why can't I stop thinking like that.
âWell thank you.â, I told him.
I sat the table while I watched Casper move around the kitchen. He finally took a break and came and sat at the table beside me. I was too busy thinking of his smile, and I didn't realize he was speaking to me.
âIs something wrong?â, I heard him ask.
âNo, sorry I was day dreaming.â, I replied smiling.
âWould you like to do something tomorrow?â, he asked.
âLike what?â
âI don't know, anything you want.â he said.
âWe could go swimming or party shopping.â, I suggested.
âThat sounds like a plan, shopping for party supplies. Then we can come back here and go swimming.â, he agreed.
Casper stood and walked back over to the oven to check on the pizza. I could tell it was ready just by the smell. Pizza had always been my favorite, I could live off of it. My mum always used to have a go at me, because I'd always suggest the same thing repeatedly when she'd ask what I wanted for dinner.
I was busy thinking of my mum and didn't realize that pizza was in front of me, until I felt Casper grab my hand and ask if I was okay. I just nodded my head and grabbed a slice of pizza with my left, because he still had a hold of my right.
His hand felt so warm in mine, but it also felt so right. It was like my hand was made to fit in his perfectly. I was a little upset when he let go, and I looked down at my pizza. All of a sudden I didn't feel like eating, and I placed what was left of my slice back on my plate.
âExcuse me.â, I said as I stood from the table and walked out of the kitchen.
âWhat's the matter Crystal? This isn't like you.â, I heard him say as I walked out.
I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm happy one minute and sad the next. All because he let go of my hand, why was I doing this to myself. I can't like him he's too different compared to me, he'll live forever and I'll die. So there is absolutely no way it would work. Who would have thought that I'd start to like my kidnapper.
âCrystal, can I come in please?â, aked Casper from the other side of my bedroom door.
âI just want to be left alone please.â
âPlease, I won't stay long. I just want to check and make sure you're okay.â, he said.
âFine.â, I said.
He walked into the room and sat on the edge of the bed. I rolled towards the window and looked at the light coming off the moon. Even being this close to him is giving me butterflies.
â Tell me what's wrong.â, he asked. He sounded a little sad, like it was hurting him knowing I was upset.
âI can't just tell him how I feel, it will ruin everything. I don't want to ruin everything, but I can't keep these feelings buried any longer.â, I thought to myself.
âNothing is wrong, I'm just fine.â, I lied.
âI know you're lying to me, remember I can read your mind. I've been trying very hard to stay out of your thoughts, but if you don't tell me I will read them.â, he said.
âPlease just leave me alone, I need time to think.â, I begged.
âOkay, be ready by nine we have party shopping to do.â
âYes, I'll be ready by nine.â, I promised.
****CASPERS P.O.V****
I was leaving her alone for the night, so I decided to head to the kitchen and clean up from dinner. I put the plates and pans in the dishwasher, and the left over pizza in the fridge.
âWhat could have upset her so much.â, I wondered.
I could have listened in, but I promised I wouldn't do that to her anymore. It upset her and that was the last thing I ever wanted to do. I finished up in the kitchen and made my way to my room, I could tell she was asleep by her heartbeat and her breathing.
âI need to tell her she's my soul mate, but how will she react?â, I thought to myself. I should wait on telling her, it wouldn't do any good to tell her now. Not when she's only starting to trust me, I don't want to scare her away.
I laid in bed and listened to her heart beat, it was the most amazing sound I'd ever heard. Before I could get up and change out of my clothes, I had fallen fast asleep.
âPLEASE, LEAVE ME ALONE!â, I heard her scream.
I tried to figure out where the screaming was coming from, but I couldn't pin point it. I ran through the house and out the front door, but I still couldn't see her anywhere.
âCRYSTAL! WHERE ARE YOU?!, I screamed in a panic.
âPlease help me Casper!â
âWhere are you? I can't find you!â
âI'm over here, please hurry!â, she yelled.
I ran as fast as I could, and finally I caught her scent. I ran in that direction hoping to find her, but she wasn't here and her scent had disappeared.
âCRYSTAL!â, I screamed.
That's when I caught another scent, one I knew too well. It was very similar to mine, but had a hint of lavender to it.
âJASPER! I KNOW YOU'RE HERE, NOW SHOW YOURSELF!â, I screamed.
How dare he touch what's mine, she is my soul mate! If he has hurt her in any way, I promise I'll rip his non existent heart right from his chest!
âNow now brother, don't think like that.â, I heard him say from behind a tree, as he slowly stepped out in view.
He walked from behind the tree dragging Crystal by her hair.
âCasper! Please, don't let him take me!â, she cried.
âLet her go now!â, I yelled.
My brother just shook his head no and pulled her hair even harder. That's it! I couldn't take it anymore.
I charged towards my brother and was within an inch of him, when all of a sudden both he and Crystal were gone.
I woke up terrified, I had to go and check on Crystal immediately! I ran to her room and barged through the door, she wasn't in her bed. So I looked in the bathroom, still no sign.
âCRYSTAL! WHERE ARE YOU?â, I screamed as loud as possible.
That's when I heard it, I could hear her heart beating. She was downstairs, probably in the kitchen. Using my Vampire speed I was down there within two seconds.
âWhy were you screaming?â, she asked looking confused.
âYou weren't in bed.â
âNo I was getting breakfast, you said be ready by nine and it's eight thirty.â, she said
âGreat! Didn't I look like a fool. Can you blame me though? I'm not letting her out of my sight, from this point on.â, I thought to myself.
âSorry, I forgot to check the time.â, I lied.
I watched her grab cold pizza out of the fridge, and place two slices onto a plate.
She sat down at the table and held out a piece to me, âWould you like some?â, she asked.
âNo thank you.â, I replied.
âWell are you going to get dressed today?â, she asked.
That's when I realized I was still in my clothes from yesterday.
âI'll be back in a minute.â, I said as I rushed out of the kitchen, and to my room to quickly change.
I was back downstairs by the time she walked out of the kitchen.
âI'm ready.â, I said. I had a huge smile on my face, because the look on hers was priceless.
âLet's go.â, she said.
We headed into town to hit up the party stores.
âWhat do we need?â, I asked her.
âYou're joking right? This is your party and you don't know what to buy?â, she asked while laughing.
âI've never thrown a party before.â, I said honestly.
âYou're a Vampire, you've been alive for god knows how long and you don't know what to buy for a party? Surely you've been to a party before?â, she asked.
âYes but it's been a really long time since I've been to one, please help me?â, I begged. I gave her sad puppy dog eyes, or at least I think that's what they call them.
âOkay I'll help you. First we need a color scheme, how about black, red, and white? You seem to have a lot of that in the house so it will blend easily.â, she said.
âOkay, what else?â, I asked.
âDecorations; like balloons, streamers, chair covers, you know stuff like that. Then you need music, you can't have a party without any music.
Damn what was I getting myself into? Sapphire was meant to take care of all of this, but I told her I would help.
âYou are serving food, right?â, she asked.
âOf course! We can't have our guests starving now can we?â, I said.
âThat reminds me I need to make a trip to the blood bank, I'll do it later this afternoon.
We arrived at a party shop and Crystal's eyes winded like she was a child in a lolly shop.
I let her go for it, she picked out everything she thought we would need
âOh can we get an ice sculpture? I've always wanted one of them at a party.â, she said.
I couldn't help myself and I agreed, and we ordered one. She chose the design, I didn't even bother listening as I knew she would pick something great.
âOkay I'm done now.â, she said with a huge smile on her face.
âIs there anything else we need?â, I asked her.
âNope I think I got everything.â
We gathered the balloons and other things into the car.
âWould you like to go home now?â, I asked her.
âYes please, I think I'm all shopped out.â, she said laughing.
We got in the car and made our way back to the house, she seemed happier today. Maybe all she needed was a good-nightâs sleep.
When I pulled into the drive way there was a car I didn't recognize. I slowly pulled up to the front of the house.
âWho is that?â, she asked.
â I have no idea.â, I replied.
I wasn't sure if I should leave her in the car or not. She's probably safer in here, if whoever it is inside is a threat.
âWhen I get out lock the doors and do not come out until I say so.â, I said.
She nodded her head in agreement. I slowly opened my door and I knew who it was instantly.
âJasper!â
