Chapter 9

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Alexia woke up feeling refreshed and happy.  Today seemed like it was going to be nice.  It looked like it was time to get up and face the new day!  Yeah right, like that could last long with how her life was going.  Sure...
She took a shower and got dressed, and then went into the kitchen to find something to eat.  After cleaning up her mess, she went into the main room where the others were waiting on her, Damon in particular.
"Hey."  He greeted Alexia with another bright smile.  "Have a nice sleep?"
"Yep!  Slept like a log!"  Alexia joked with him.
"Me too.  So, what are you planning to do today?  I don't think that either of us is on the testing schedule."  He asked her.
"Well, I was planning on relaxing and doing a little bit of nothing.  I'm still tired from my last testing session."  Alexia said, immediately moving her hand to rub her arm.  It was still sore from where they cut into her to see if she could heal.
"Well, you want to watch a movie?  I hear that they keep a few sitting near the T.V. for when we get bored.  We can even invite everyone else if you want to."  Damon said, looking a bit embarrassed.  Alexia wondered why.
"No, its fine!  They can come watch it if they want to.  So, what movie do you want to watch?"  She asked with a smile, she didn’t want him to feel embarrassed around her.  He wouldn’t be too fun to be around if he was always embarrassed and afraid to talk to her.
"Well, if it's ok with you, I wanted to watch an older movie that I found in them."  He said, blushing a little.
"Ok, then what is it?"  Alexia said, getting to the point.
Damon mumbled something that Alexia couldn't hear.  "Well?"  She asked again.  He looked a bit sheepish and said it a little louder this time.
"I was saying 'Beauty and the Beast.'  I found it and it was my favorite movie as a kid."  He grinned sheepishly again.
"OH MY GOSH!  That is definitely my favorite movie!  I mean it is my favorite, as in I still love it."  Alexia laughed along with him, grinning widely.  She went into her apartment and got some popcorn as he started the movie.  She came back just as the opening credits finished.  That sat on the couch watching Belle sing about the books, and Gaston sing about himself, when they struck another conversation.
"So, they said that you came from another place like this right?  How long have you been away from home?"  Alexia asked.
"Well, I looked at a calendar this morning, and I've been gone about three years.  Since my mom was pregnant with a girl when I was taken, I have a baby sister by now."  He said quietly.  Alexia felt her heart breaking for him.  For him not only to have been gone for three years, but to have never seen his baby sister was horrible.  She wanted to give him a hug, but she felt that it would be too awkward.
"Oh, wow.  That's horrible; I don't know what to say."  Alexia murmured.
"Well, we can't change that fact now.  So, what about you?  Where are you from?  And how long have you been here?"  Damon asked, changing the subject.
"Well, I have been here for about a week, and I'm from a small town in New Jersey. Where are you from?"  Alexia asked, hoping that it wouldn't make him angry or sad.
He smiled a little at her.  "I'm from a small town too, except mine was in Ohio, which is why that's where they took me when I was kidnapped."
"That makes sense."  Alexia said and looked back at the movie.  It was currently at the 'Be Our Guest' song.  She and Damon sang along with it, laughing at each other and their exaggerated movements.  They were having a great time just joking around and Damon wasn’t blushing every five minutes anymore.
After a while, the movie was over when the beast changed back into a person.  They both happily laughed at the ending when all the characters changed back into people with him.  When it was finally over, they turned the TV off and went to Alexia's room for diner.
They worked together making spaghetti and garlic bread.  Alexia laughed when Damon spilled warm water on him, laughing even harder when he almost dropped all of the spaghetti on the floor.
After about an hour, they finally had everything cooked and cooled and they sat down to eat.  For a while there was no noise other than the sounds of their eating. It was a comfortable silence, not one that people feel like they need to fill.  Eventually, they finished their meal.  Alexia looked at the clock and noticed that it was almost eight.  They decided to search the apartment to see if they could find anything to do.
Alexia went to the closet to see if there were any games in it, when she found a small hidden door in the back.  It wasn't big enough to see unless you moved some things around, but it was just big enough for a person to crawl through.  "Damon!  Come here, I found something!"  Alexia yelled.  Damon came running into the very small closet.  It could barely fit the two of them.
"What, this better be good.  This closet is too small for comfort."  He grumbled to himself.  Then he noticed the door that Alexia was pulling on the handle.  "What's that?"
"I don't know I just found it a second ago.  Whoever built these must have put this here.  I wonder if anyone else's room has it."  Alexia said, still trying to open the door.
"Move over, let me try."  Damon said, gently pushing Alexia out of the way so he could pull on the door handle.  It took a few tries, but it finally sprang open.  Alexia crawled inside and was surprised to see that the ceiling opened up and the room became big enough to hold around ten people comfortably.  Inside the small room, it was filled with supplies.  There was a pile of food, backpacks, water, and even a small pile of papers.  She made her way to the pile of papers, and looked at the one on top.  It looked like a letter.  It read:
Dear whoever is unfortunate enough to live here,
My name is Roger Reedom and I built this apartment.  When I learned what was going to happen here, I knew that I had to do something.  I also knew that there was no way that I could go to the cops.  I wouldn't be able to get to them before they found out.  So, instead I made this room.  I filled it with things that you might need in order to escape.  In here, you will find food, water, and items that you might need on your journey.  I put ten backpacks in here to help you and whoever else must go with you carry your provisions.  Inside the backpacks, you will find compasses, flashlights, as much money as I could spare, and anything else that I thought you might need.  In the stack of papers under this, there is a plan of this building, instruction on how to get out of it, and a map of the area.  I tried to think of everything that you might need to help you, and this is all that I could come up with.  As soon as you get out of there, try to get to the police.  I couldn't go because even if I got to them, I had no proof.  You, you are the proof.  They would have to believe you, especially if you brought some kind of proof with you.  You need to leave as soon as possible after finding all of this.
I wish you the best of luck,
Roger Reedom
The letter ended after that, and underneath were all of the promised maps, plans, and instructions.  Alexia looked up after reading the letter out loud to Damon.  "Well, are we going to try and escape?  I mean, we have all that we need right here, and if not, we can probably find the rest ourselves.  We could really do this!"  She exclaimed, getting excited about getting away from here.  It really seemed possible, it seemed that this Roger Reedom had thought of everything that they could need to escape.
Damon looked happy too.  "I think we can.  We need to think about this before jumping into action though.  We should also try to ask the others if they want to go with us, the more of us that go the better."
Alexia instantly sighed to herself.  She had been so excited about going home that she forgot about the details.  She decided that Damon was right and that they needed to think this through before they tried to escape, after all they only had one chance.  "Well, why don't we talk to Cheater about it?  If we get him onboard, then he can help us with everyone else.  He's been here the longest, so they trust him the most."  She said thoughtfully.
"Yeah," Damon replied.  "That's a great idea.  The only problem is that girl, Jada.  We can't leave her behind really, so we have to find some way to get her to go with us.  If we left her behind, I could never live with myself."  He sighed.
Alexia knew that he was right.  They couldn't leave Jada here; it's too horrible of a place.  It was going to be hard to get Jada to come with them though, especially since she didn't talk and didn’t trust any of them.
Both Alexia and Damon decided that they might want to leave the small room and hide it again before someone else found it.  That would be horrible and it would ruin their chance to leave.  They went into the living room and sat down, both lost in their own thoughts.  After a while, Alexia looked up at the light grey clock on the wall.  It was almost ten o'clock.  They decided that first thing tomorrow the two of them would tell Cheater about the door and letter.  The sooner they told him the better, since that meant that they could hopefully leave sooner as well.
Alexia walked Damon to the door, and they said goodnight to each other.  She went back into the apartment to take her shower.  After drying off and getting dressed, she went into her bedroom and turned on her sleep playlist again.  She lay in bed for a while trying to go to sleep, but it took her a while because of all the things on her mind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cheater spent most of the day asleep, and when he woke up he spent the day lying on his couch, picking through the minds of scientists.  Around eight he heard a stray thought from Alexia.  It was something about escaping this horrible place.  He listened, intrigued, as she and Damon thought about the door, letter, and supplies.  He also heard them think about how to get people to go with them.  He felt bad when they were thinking about Jada, because he knew why the poor girl didn't talk, and he could never get her to speak either.  It was hard on her, all of it was. Not only how she got here, but just being here itself was hard on someone so young.

After listening for a while, he gathered that they were going to sleep and decided to so as well.  He showered and slipped into bed.  He fell asleep pretty quickly, as using his power always makes him tired.
