Can you guys at least tell me if it sucks or not? I would be grateful....
Chapter 7
Alexia woke up around 7 to the sound of her alarm clock. She didn't set it, so she guessed that they wanted her to wake up now. She got out of bed, and brushed her hair. She had showered the night before so she just went to the closet and pulled out some jeans and a plain orange shirt and put them on. She also found her beat up black and white tennis shoes from home. She put a hair band around her wrist just in case she felt like pulling her hair up later.
Alexia walked out of her bedroom and into the apartment's kitchen to grab a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch. She loved her cinnamon toast crunch. After eating it, she walked to the mirror in the living room to make sure that she looked okay. Just as she was finished brushing her hair back from her face, the door was opened.
"'Scuse me Alexia, but I have some news for ya." Cheater said quickly as he walked in, watching Alexia's scared expression turn into a calmer one.
"What's wrong?" Alexia said, worried. She could tell by his expression that it was bad news. He motioned for her to sit on the couch. She sat and looked at him expectantly.
"Well, it seems that you have a test scheduled for today. I noticed when I was scanning the worker's minds like I do daily. They are supposed to come get you in an hour. Before they come, I wanted to tell you that you shouldn't fight them. They aren't afraid to hurt you. Just go along with whatever they say. By what I understand, they are going to drug you so that they can make it 'safer' for them. You will be awake during the tests though. They will only have you drugged to get you into the lab. I just thought that I would warn you." He said to her. He gave her a sad look.
"Please stay here until they come to get me!" Alexia said quickly. She didn't want to be alone when they came to get her. She was afraid of what might happen if she was alone. She noticed Cheater nod in understanding. She forgot that he could read her mind.
"Well, we have an hour, what do you want to do?" Alexia said quietly. She was still a little worried about her tests.
"I think that we should talk about you. About what they have done to you. And don't say that you don't know what I mean, because I know that you do." Cheater said calmly. He chuckled at her surprised expression. "Mind reader remember?"
Alexia laughed. "Okay, what do you want to know?" She got quiet again. She knew what he was going to ask.
"Well, I heard you thinking about your leg, but you didn't think about the whole thing. Just the pain." Cheater said, sighing a little. Alexia could tell that he didn't want to talk about this either.
"Ok. Well, when I was under, they decided that they were going to try and make a new form of obedience. They put a certain amount of pain in my leg, whenever I do something that they don't like. They said that they chose my leg because it's harder to do anything when the pain is in your leg." Alexia said in almost a whisper.
"Then that's another reason that you need to try and do whatever they tell you, even if it's something horrible." Cheater said softly. He gave her another sad look. "I have something else to tell you. I learned yesterday when you got here that you were experimented on. Not just on your leg either. I read the minds of the scientists and they were all excited to find out the results of your experiments. They introduced some type of elements into your body to give you new talents. I know about your fire. I also know that it won't be the last power that you get. Also, it sound really cool, can you show me?" He finished the news happily, hoping to be shown the cool power.
Alexia laughed. Cheater even made bad news seem good. She showed him her hand, palm up. As she concentrated on it, a small flame appeared and grew hotter and hotter. Alexia could barely feel it, but Cheater must have, because his face was starting to take on a shine from sweat. Alexia quickly stopped the fire. Cheater looked relieved
Alexia laughed. "What, am I too hot for you?" She giggled again. Cheater winked.
"You know it babe. Your definitely too hot to touch!" Cheater said laughing as well.
Alexia blushed. She was having such a good time, she almost forgot about her tests. That is, until the door opened and Mr. Dillenwater appeared. He gave them a ghastly smile. "Well, well, well, it seems that our resident mind reader here has told you all about the tests that you are about to take. That means that you must also know that I now have to sedate you. Am I correct?"
"Yeah, you're right DillenDofus. Where's the needle? What is it invisible?" Alexia muttered. She must not have muttered it softly enough, because a sudden pain erupted in her leg. She gasped loudly and collapsed on the couch. She quietly rubbed her leg, holding in her tears. She didn't want to show weakness. As quickly as the pain came, it was gone.
"Now, you won't try that again, will you?" Dillenwater said. If looks could kill, Cheater was giving Dillenwater such looks that he would be dead.
"Are you ready for the sedative? I have it right here." Dillenwater pulled a needle out of the bag that he was carrying. Alexia hadn't noticed the bag before now.
Alexia sighed. It's not like she had a choice. "Where do you want me to sit? I'd rather not pass out on the floor." Dillenwater gave her a look that told her to remain standing. She sighed again and stood her ground. Dillenwater motioned for Cheater to get behind her.
Dillenwater pulled on another of his ghastly smiles. Alexia saw him bring the needle closer to her.
*~Cheater POV~*
Dillenwater brought the needle closer and closer to Alexia, slower than Cheater thought he should. He thought that Dillenwater should have just gotten it over with, but of course he couldn't do that. From Cheater's point of view behind Alexia, he thought that the needle moved slower and slower the closer it came to her. He went into her mind for a moment and felt her eyes widen as Dillenwater finally inserted the needle.
A few seconds later, he felt Alexia slump against him. She was out like a light. As soon as he was sure she was out, Dillenwater went out the door and rolled in a gurney-like table with dark colored straps on the side. The straps were obviously not leather, yet Cheater felt like he recognized them.
"I know what you're thinking, the straps are fireproof. We're also taking other cautions to keep ourselves safe from her." Dillenwater smirked. Cheater could read his mind, so he knew that it was true about all of the precautions. There were definitely enough of them.
After sitting Alexia softly on the table, he watched sadly as Dillenwater tightened the straps around her. Dillenwater then pushed Alexia out the door and into the main room. Cheater followed and watched as the unconscious Alexia was rolled down the hallway and towards one of the labs before the door was swung shut.
After that, he went to his room to nap until Alexia woke up and he could read her mind during the tests. He needed all his strength for the mindreading.
*~Alexia's POV~*
Alexia woke up back in the lab. She was strapped to a cold metal table with hard straps. She lifted her head up slightly and saw a moat looking thing around the table. She also saw that the two scientists were in big suits. After a second, she decided that they must be fireproof. She also saw that the ceiling was covered in sprinkler heads, about one every foot.
Alexia could see that they were preparing for if she tried to use her fire power. When the scientists finally noticed that she was awake, they walked over to her. Dillenwater was in a yellow suit, the other man was in a white suit. After looking, she noticed that the other doctor was Dr. Morgan, one of the doctors that she met on her first day. They were both smiling.
"Don't even try that fire power of yours Alexia. As you can see, it won't work. You would be doused with water long before you could do any damage. Now, as you were told, you are going to get some standard tests done today. Things like blood work, reflexes, pulse, and more. Are you ready?" Dillenwater said. Alexia shook her head. "Well too bad. Get ready for some blood work."
He put one of the rubber things that help the technician get the blood out of veins on Alexia. After that, he pulled out a clean needle and took the blood himself. He put it in a secure place so he could continue. "We'll test that later. Now on to reflexes. This will be interesting since you can't move very much. It's always funny the way they move isn't it Dr. Morgan." He smirked
"Oh course Mr. Dillenwater. That's my favorite part!" Dr. Morgan said excitedly. Alexia thought that they were getting to into this.
Dillenwater pulled out a small hammer used to test reflexes. He brought it over and made a show of hitting Alexia in the knee with it. Hard. She felt tears prick her eyes but barely let her leg twitch. She made it a show of self control. This disappointed the men. Dillenwater hit her in the same knee even harder this time. Alexia squirmed a bit more this time, but still held in most of her tears.
"Stupid girl! You're ruining the fun!" Dillenwater exclaimed. Then he got a devious grin on his face. "I know how to make you squirm. He went over to the wall and pushed a button. Immediately pain burst through Alexia's leg. They were right, this time she did squirm. She tried as hard as she could to get to her leg, even though she knew that it was pointless. After the men laughed at her pain for a few more moments, Dillenwater reached over and turned off the pain. Alexia sighed of relief. She didn't think that she could take it much longer.
"That was fun! I think that we're done with the normal tests for today. It's time for the interesting tests. Let's see if you have any healing ability. Time to cut open your arm!" Dillenwater said happily.
Alexia gasped. "WHAT? Please tell me that you don't mean cut it deep right?" Alexia shuddered at the thought.
"Calm down kid. We're only making a thin slice, not enough to need stitches. After we're done, we'll see how long it takes to heal." Dillenwater said. He reached into a drawer and pulled out a pocket knife. He opened it and walked slowly to Alexia, growing a bigger smile the closer he got. Alexia couldn't move. She was strapped down even tighter by Dr. Morgan. He finally reached her and quickly opened up a bleeding gash just below her shoulder on her left arm. She gasped at the pain. They didn't even try to stop the bleeding. They just had it run its course. After what seemed like hours, but was probably only five or ten minutes, the bleeding stopped. They didn't try to clean her arm either.
"Are you not going to clean my arm?" Alexia asked.
"No, you can do that in a little while. We're done for today. We'll drug you again and you will be sent back to your bed. Have a nice nap." Dillenwater said.
That's when Alexia noticed the needle in Dillenwater's hand. He quickly stuck it in her vein and she was out in a matter of seconds.
*~Cheater's POV~*
Cheater felt like he could kill someone with a single punch. He was so angry at Dillenwater. He had seen the whole thing through one of the lab tech's minds. They did all of that just to see if Alexia was a healer. What happened if after they didn't clean it, her wound got infected? It would be their entire fault. All because they think that it's in the interest of science. Forget the interest of science. All that Cheater wanted was for his 'family' of kids to be let out of here. That was his interest.
Cheater slumped back on the bed that he had been laying on. He felt drained. It took a lot out of him when he watched things through the minds of others. He was going to take a couple hour nap, and then go see Alexia when she woke up. He got ready and decided to sleep on the couch. He lay down with some music from one of the music channels playing in the background. He fell asleep before the first song was over.
