Chapter 5

"Good morning sleepyhead!"  Mr. Dillenwater woke Alexia rather loudly.  They had arrived at the School, and Alexia looked at the clock on the dashboard and noticed that it was 10:00 p.m.  That was two hours after they left the airport, but then again she forgot about all of the mountains that they had to go around.  She was originally from California, and wasn't used to all the curves in the road.  She had woken up a few times during the ride because the curves slid her head off its perch on the side of the car door.

"We're here!"  Alexia scrambled out of the vehicle and hurriedly ran her fingers through her hair.  She looked at it in the side view mirror and dubbed it okay.  She went to help Mr. Dillenwater with her bags, only to discover that a couple of men had already come to his aid.  She was really nervous about what would happen now, Mr. Dillenwater said that they were now going to meet the head of the corporation whose name was Francesca Jomen.  She was very wealthy and the sole proprietor of the School.  It she didn't like Alexia, then she could easily make her leave.

Mr. Dillenwater showed Alexia into the building that she hadn't noticed before.  It was a one story, cream colored building, that looked a lot like a factory or a warehouse.  It had few windows and didn't look like it was big enough to fit all of the kids that they said that they had here.  She wondered if there were other buildings behind it that she couldn't see.  They walked up a small flight of tan steps and into a long white hallway.  At the door, there was a reception desk with a woman sitting behind it that automatically waved them through.  Mr. Dillenwater walked straight to a door immediately right of them and Alexia followed him through.  They stepped in to a lightly decorated office full of file cabinets. There was also a desk and a set of two chairs in front of it.  It vaguely resembled a school principal's office in the setup.  Alexia sat down in one of the chairs.

The chair behind the desk swiveled around to face them and for the first time she noticed the woman sitting in it.  She was blonde, and wore her hair in a tight bun.  She also had on no makeup and a lab coat.  'She must help out in the labs!' Alexia thought.  She looked a little like a scientist, a really serious scientist.  She tried to smile but it looked more like a grimace on the serious face.  Alexia also grimaced inwardly.

"Hello Miss Lambre.  My name is Francesca Jomen, and I run this company.  I really hope that you enjoy your time here at the School, it will be an experience I'm sure."  She said the whole sentence with a bored tone and expression.  She gestured to Mr. Dillenwater, "He will show you where to go for your first tests before you can retire for the night.  Have fun."  After that she pulled out a cell phone and rudely called someone without saying goodbye to them.

Mr. Dillenwater pulled Alexia to her feet out of the chair she had been resting in.  He lightly dragged her to the door and down the hallway again.  He stopped outside a door a few down and on the other side of the hall. It was hospital tests.  They went inside and Mr. Dillenwater explained to the technicians that Alexia needed her starting tests done so she could go to bed.  After talking to them in low voices for a minute, so low that she couldn't hear, Mr. Dillenwater left them alone with them.

"Hello Miss Lambre, may I call you Alexia?"  Alexia nodded.  The man speaking was tall and blonde, and was smiling widely.  He had blue eyes and the kind of smile that made you want to smile back.  As Alexia did just that he continued.  "My name is Dr. Morgen. This is Dr. Callis." He motioned to the woman standing by the only window in the room.  She was average height, a brunette, and had almond eyes.  She nodded but didn't smile.  She looked kind of creepy, like you didn’t want to get on her bad side.  Dr. Morgen continued.  "We are going to take some blood samples, scans of your body and brain, x-rays, and the normal stuff you do when you get a check-up."  He smiled again.  "Just sit over there in that chair." He motioned to a chair near the window, right beside Dr. Callis.  She didn’t like the fact that it was near Dr. Callis, Alexia was kind of afraid of her already.

Alexia walked over to it and sat down.  She didn't notice the straps on the arms until Dr. Callis was strapping her in.  "It's just a precaution.  Don't worry; you will be let out after we do the blood work."  Dr. Morgen said.  Alexia thought that that was unusual, but didn't want to make them angry with her so she didn't mention it.

Dr. Callis set Alexia's arm up in the normal way you would if you wanted to take blood.  As she was doing it, Dr. Morgen brought out a needle.  Alexia noticed that it was already filled with a light blue cloudy liquid.  "How are you going to take my blood if the needle is already full?"  Alexia asked, confused.

"This is just an antibiotic.  We just want to make sure that you are as healthy as possible."Dr. Morgen stated simply.  He started to move toward her with the filled needle.

"Shouldn't you take the blood first?"  Alexia asked.  "I mean, wouldn't the antibiotic come out with the blood if you did it first?"

"You’re right.  Thank you, that could have been bad huh!"  Dr. Morgen said with a strange look on his face.  He then got out a clean needle and took her blood. He smiled and handed it to Dr. Callis, who put it into a box to be taken to wherever they processed blood at in the building.

"Now for your antibiotic shot.  Don't fidget, we don't want to hurt you."  Dr. Morgen said, still smiling.  Alexia sat stiffly in her chair.  She was never this nervous getting a normal shot, so why was she now?  She wasn’t afraid of needles or anything.

Dr. Morgen injected her with the antibiotic, and swiftly disposed of the needle in the biohazard container.  He smiled at Alexia and then took of the bindings holding her arms to the chair.  Alexia tried to stand up, but she found herself falling backwards into the chair.  She was confused; did she have a weird reaction to the medicine or something?  That's when she noticed that Dr. Morgen and Dr. Callis were both laughing at her confusion.  They injected her with a drug!  A drug!  They were knocking her out.

Alexia's last coherent thought before the drug took over was that she might not like this school after all.
