Tyrone had his assistant and lawyer quietly deliver a nominee agreement.
Easton was still in that passionate, idealistic phase of youth, and he insisted on signing the agreement himself. Tyrone had no reason to object.
As long as Easton could hold on to this sense of loyalty, maybe Tyrone could try to accept him as a brother.
"Mr. Lynch, it's best to keep this confidential. If Mr. Maddox finds out..." the lawyer cautioned Tyrone and Easton.
If the old man caught wind of this, he'd be even more wary of Tyrone, and the consequences might not be worth it.
"I won't tell a soul," Easton said, nodding earnestly.
"And don't say a word to your sister-in-law either," Tyrone added, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
Better to let Alicia continue fussing over him for a while.
Easton lowered his head, looking a little aggrieved, but nodded again.
Once the assistant and lawyer left, Easton shamelessly begged to stay for dinner.
Since he'd been so obedient about signing the agreement, Tyrone allowed him to stay.
But dinner that night felt like a battlefield.
Tyrone had always seen Alicia as a gentle soul, the kind of girl who'd gotten pushed around her whole life. But ever since he'd been forced out of Lynch Corporation, something in her had changed. She'd become bristly, like a hedgehog ready to bare its quills at the slightest provocation.
"Why are you eating at our house? Isn't it enough you've already taken what isn't yours? Now you want our food too? Don't you have enough money now? Who are you trying to fool with that pitiful act?" Alicia snapped, slamming her fork down when Easton refused to leave.
Easton just lowered his eyes, quietly poking at his food, not daring to answer back.
"What, are you still going to treat him like your brother?" Alicia's voice wavered, her frustration on Tyrone's behalf plain as day.
"Well... maybe he's not so bad. If Lynch Corporation goes to him, I might finally get some peace and quiet," Tyrone said, his tone soft as he tried to soothe her.
Alicia fell silent, focusing on her plate.
Even Alicia could see it-Tyrone and
Easton would never have the

brotherly bond most people imagined. Maybe there weren't spark flying yet, but once Easton grew into his own, conflict would be inevitable.
If even Alicia understood this, of course Tyrone did too.
He just wanted something-anything-to hold onto, some small hope for family.
His father was a scoundrel, his mother lost in madness, and his grandfather growing more erratic with age.
Everyone around Tyrone seemed intent on draining him of whatever warmth or loyalty he had left.
He was just searching for something-someone-to anchor his hopes for a real family.
After a long silence, Alicia gave an exaggerated sigh and, with a touch of reluctant kindness, spooned another helping of rice onto Easton's plate.
Let's just hope this kid won't let Tyrone down, she thought.
Easton stared at Alicia in disbelief, looking completely overwhelmed. He stood up, took the bowl from her with both hands, and grinned so wide he could hardly contain

himself. "The food... it's really, really
good, bro." Content belongs to
Tyrone just shook his head and smiled, returning to his meal.
Alicia glanced at Tyrone. He must really trust Easton, she realized.
"You're still growing, eat some more. Don't just fill up on rice," she said, nudging the meat dish toward Easton.
He nodded so hard his hair fell in his eyes.
Easton was just another kid starved for affection-parents present, but never really there. Another lost soul, in his own way.
Alicia thought about it, and her resentment softened. It wasn't really his fault.
After Tyrone left Lynch Corporation, it was as if his world suddenly slowed down. Alicia didn't dare ask what his plans were next she didn't want to upset him.
That morning, Tyrone drove her to school himself before heading off.
Alicia was happy that he could be there for her every day, picking her up and dropping her off. But Tyrone was supposed to be a man at the top, someone who never settled for fess.
He wasn't the type to give up. Maybe, after leaving Lynch Corporation, he'd just
been kicked while he was down one too many times.
