It was ten o'clock at night. Wilma had just finished cleaning up and was about to go to bed when the doorbell rang.
She opened the door to find Chester standing there, flashing his badge. "I'm with the police. You're under suspicion of poisoning your employer. I need you to come with me."
Wilma's face drained of color; her hands trembled as she stared at Chester. "What... what are you talking about?"
From the top of the stairs, Alicia appeared, her voice cold and unwavering. "Wilma, I'm the one who called the police." She descended the steps, fixing Wilma with a steely gaze. "There's a camera in the kitchen. You can come clean and hand over whatever you used, or I'll let Chester file a formal investigation and have you taken away right now. Your choice."
Alicia's anger was unmistakable.
Wilma looked more and more stricken. She wasn't a bad person by nature, and the guilt of doing something so wrong was written all over her face. Wrapping her hands together, she pleaded, "Alicia, it's a misunderstanding... I heard about your miscarriage and just wanted to help you recover."
Alicia's expression remained icy. "The food's already been sent for analysis. It contained a drug that causes permanent infertility, Wilma. Are you still going to lie? I'm only giving you this chance because of the years you've worked here. Either you tell the truth now, or you go to jail. You have a son at university back home, don't you? You know exactly how much this will affect his life if you're convicted."
Alicia was hitting her where it hurt most.
Everyone has a weakness. No one is immune.
Wilma's fear became palpable. She looked at Alicia, voice shaking. "I'm just a housekeeper-hired by the Lynch family. You have no right to decide my fate."
She was still trying to fight back.
Alicia scoffed. "You know exactly how much Tyrone cares about this child. He had no problem sending Melanie to the police station-did you really think you'd be treated differently?"

Wilma dropped her gaze, her voice barely above a whisper after a long, tormented pause. "It was the old man who told me to do it. He doesn't want you and Mr. Lynch to stay married. As long as you can't have children, there's no reason for your marriage to continue. The Lynch family owes the White family, and Mr. Lynch is supposed to marry their missing daughter, Nicole."

Alicia took a steadying breath. She'd already suspected as much. "So the old man not only didn't want me to have a baby, he didn't want my. previous pregnancy to succeed either. But why? I thought he desperately wanted Tyrone to have a child of his own-he's always been afraid Tyrone would never have an heir." Content belongs to

s filled with tears. She hung her head and choked out, "Because there's another heir now. Marcus came back with a son-Easton. Years ago, in front of the White family, the old mansigned an agreement leaving everything to Tyrone's children. That means more than half the Lynch fortune is destined for Tyrone and his heirs. The other half goes to his children too..." Content belongs to
Alicia glanced at Chester. So her suspicions were right.
Maddox's old agreement had tied everything to Tyrone's child, back when they thought Nicole might never be found. The safest choice was to leave it all to a direct descendant.
But now Marcus had returned with Easton, giving the old man another grandson.
If Alicia had Tyrone's child, all of Maddox's estate would end up in her hands. That would leave the old man powerless within the Lynch family, with nothing left for Easton not a cent, not a share.
Of course... The old man never liked Alicia. He always thought Tyrone would have other children anyway. So he stalled for time, using Wilma to get rid of Alicia's baby.
Maybe the old man hadn't counted on Melanie interfering and causing Alicia's miscarriage, but in the end, that tragedy played right into his hands.
Now, if Alicia could never conceive again, the old man had a reason to pressure Tyrone for a divorce. If Tyrone refused, he could finally give Easton a legitimate
share of the family fortune.
Classic business tactics...
"Alicia..." Wilma shook her head, defeated. "That's how these old families are. Scheming, backstabbing-fathers against sons, children used as pawns...'
