âWhatâs so special about Alicia anyway? Sheâs just a dull, domesticated little rabbitâwomen like her are a dime a dozen.â Franklin shook his head, genuinely baffled.
Vincent shoved Franklin aside. âThatâs crap! Sheâs notââ
But the words caught in his throat. Suddenly, every good thing about Alicia came rushing back to him.
Alicia was nothing like some soulless pet bunny.
Those four years together had been the calmest of his life. Even when chaos reigned at Lawson & Co., all it took was a night with Alicia and the world would quiet down. It was as if she had a kind of magic, able to make him forget every worry, even if only for a while.
Sheâd learned to cook for him, always whipping up his favorite dishes. She was careful not to step on his toes, always putting his feelings first, her whole heart and soul focused on him alone...
And now, Alicia was gone. The same Alicia heâd believed couldnât live without himâshe had up and left.
âMr. Lawson.â The private lounge door swung open again and Jade strode in.
Sheâd only dared come back to Seaview City now that Tyrone and Alicia had taken off for the Maldives.
Vincent frowned, eyeing her warily.
Jade gestured for the waiter to bring Vincent a steaming mug of strong coffee. âWord is youâve been troubled lately by that business with the illegitimate son, Mr. Lawson. I have a proposal. If youâre interested, it could cement your standing in Seaview Cityâmake you untouchable. Care to hear me out?â
Vincent let out a dry, humorless laugh.
After so many years in the business world, he wasnât about to believe in free lunches.
âYou donât trust me?â Jade slid onto the seat beside him. âWhy not send your friends out? What Iâm about to say concerns Tyroneâs father.â
Vincentâs buzz faded a notch. He shot a look at Franklin. âYou guys, leave us.â
Franklin hesitated, brow furrowing. He could never figure out what Jade was up to, and it was never anything goodâespecially when it involved Tyrone. Tyrone was ruthless; it was best not to provoke him.
Not long ago, Franklin had helped Vincent try to mess with Alicia. Tyrone found out through a video call and made sure Franklin didnât leave his house for two weeks. His own father had spent fourteen days chewing him out.
The last thing Franklin wanted was for Vincent and Tyrone to fall out over a woman. âVincentââ
âJust go.â Vincent pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaustion in his voice.
With a resigned sigh, Franklin stood and ushered the rest of the group out.
Jade gave Vincent a sly smile. âTyroneâs biggest weaknessâhis parents.â
Everyone in Harboridge City knew the story. Tyroneâs father had been in an accident years ago, leaving him in a wheelchair, short-tempered, and unpredictable.
Heâd shut himself away, never stepping foot outside his study.
Tyroneâs mother, meanwhile, had been handpicked by Maddox to bear an heir for the Lynch family.
Truth was, there had never been any real love between Tyroneâs parents.
Back when MarcusâTyroneâs fatherâblew fifty million on a diamond bracelet to propose, it was all just a show for the public.
In a marriage like that, twisted emotions were bound to fester.
Tyrone had been born into that cold, dysfunctional household.
âAfter Tyroneâs mother got pregnant, his father disappeared,â Jade went on, eyes glinting as she watched Vincent. âMaddox told everyone Marcus died of illness. But the truth is, heâs alive.â
She leaned in, lowering her voice. âI know youâve been secretly digging into Tyroneâs past, trying to find his father. You want to use Marcus and the new family he started to challenge Tyrone for the Lynch inheritance.â
Vincent stayed silent. She was right.
If he could find Marcus and the child from Marcusâs second family, he could use them to strip Tyrone of the Lynch Corporationâs shieldâand then, maybe, win Alicia back.
âI know where Marcus is,â Jade said quietly.

âNo catch. Iâll tell you for freeâif youâll join forces with me. Tyrone is a ticking time bomb. Itâs safer if we handle him together.â Jadeâs lips curled into a cool smile.
