Chapter 206

Nicole’s hands trembled as anxiety washed over her. After all, she wasn’t the real heiress—Jade’s warning to keep a low profile echoed in her mind now, louder than ever.

“The White family’s heiress? If this is the sort of upbringing they provide, it’s a disgrace,” Lillian said sharply, her icy gaze fixed on Nicole. “If it weren’t for Reginald, you wouldn’t have even received an invitation. Now, will you leave on your own, or shall I have someone escort you out?”

“Auntie...” Nicole’s voice wavered as she turned pleadingly to Yvonne, hoping desperately for support.

But Yvonne only sighed, shaking her head. “Nicole, it’s not that I don’t want to help you, but your words couldn’t have been more ill-timed. There’s nothing I can do. Honestly, I might get dragged into this myself. After today... I’m not sure we can even stay friends.”

The icy threat in Yvonne’s words drained the color from Nicole’s face.

“Just go home for now,” Yvonne said quietly, steering Nicole toward the exit.

Jade had sent Nicole here tonight hoping she’d network with the city’s elite young women, laying groundwork for the future. If Nicole was thrown out before the party even began, she’d be the laughingstock of the entire social circle—how could she ever show her face again?

“Tyrone...” Nicole stammered, turning to him in desperation.

But Tyrone stood beside Alicia, who clung innocently to his arm, watching Nicole with wide, untroubled eyes. Tyrone didn’t spare Nicole a glance.

“Tyrone, say something for Nicole! You two are still engaged...” Mina blurted out, looking nervously between Tyrone and Lillian.

Tyrone’s voice was flat. “Miss Holloway, who was it that loudly announced at the entrance that you two were best friends?” He fixed Mina with a cool stare. “Why don’t you help her out, then? As for the engagement—it’s void. I’m already married.”

Mina bit her lip, hands clenched, not daring to test Lillian’s patience further. After all, being the daughter of the Chamber of Commerce president meant Lillian’s word carried weight in the city’s business circles.

“Mina...” Nicole choked out, on the verge of tears.

Mina could only whisper, “Nicole, just go home.”

Nicole’s face was chalk white now. With no one willing to help, she shot Alicia a venomous glare. “Just you wait,” she hissed, before turning on her heel and storming out.

As soon as Nicole left, Lillian’s smile returned. She turned to Tyrone and the others, resuming their conversation as if nothing had happened.

Chapter 205 Yvonne’s lips curled in a faint, knowing smile. She walked over to Alicia and handed her an unopened bottle of water. “Here, drink this. You’re pregnant—you should avoid anything that’s been sitting out.”

Alicia took the bottle, sensing Yvonne’s kindness. “Thank you,” she said softly.

Yvonne leaned lazily against the balcony railing, a teasing smile on her lips. “You timed that perfectly, didn’t you? Pushed Nicole just enough to make her say all the wrong things.”

Alicia’s heart skipped a beat, but she said nothing.

Yvonne’s smile grew warmer, her eyes filled with gentle approval. “Relax, I’m not here to take Nicole’s side. Frankly, I’m not even sure she’s the real Nicole.”

In truth, Yvonne was quite pleased. When she first learned Alicia was her niece, she’d worried Alicia might be too soft—a meek little rabbit that everyone could bully. But now, it was clear Alicia wasn’t defenseless. She could bite back—and she knew exactly where to strike.

That meant Alicia was clever, shrewd.

If she ever did return to the White family, at least Brandon and Jade wouldn’t be able to trample over her so easily.

As her aunt, Yvonne would do everything in her power to protect her. But she also hoped Alicia would be like a rose with thorns—beautiful, but not easily touched.

“I honestly didn’t expect her to say those things,” Alicia said, her smile cautious, words carefully measured.

She still wasn’t sure if Yvonne’s kindness was genuine. After all these years, Alicia had learned not to trust anyone too easily.

And now, as Tyrone’s wife, she had to be especially careful—no reckless words, no careless mistakes.

Yvonne nodded thoughtfully, her gaze never leaving Alicia.

Alicia felt a strange flutter of nerves under Yvonne’s scrutiny. She couldn’t quite say why, but her heart beat faster all the same...
