Chapter 202

Yvonne’s heart sank for a moment, but her instincts remained razor-sharp. “A psychiatric patient—why would he single out an orphan in a hospital packed with people? Get in touch with Chester for me. I want every detail about this case.”

Sean Quinn nodded, picking up the sealed envelope with the test results. “Aren’t you going to open it?” he teased, trying to lighten the mood. “I remember you said... if this sample turned out to be your niece, you’d have to marry me.”

Yvonne, who hadn’t held out much hope, shot him a look, feigning indifference. “Well, you’re out of luck, then...”

She broke the seal on the envelope and slid out the paternity test report.

There was a long silence before Yvonne tossed the report carelessly onto the desk. She slumped into Sean Quinn’s arms, exhaustion written all over her face.

He wrapped his arms around her, holding her tight. “Don’t lose hope. We’ve been searching for so many years, and we’ll keep searching. One day, we’ll find her.”

Yvonne stiffened, suddenly sitting bolt upright as if something finally clicked. She snatched up the report. “Sean Quinn... were you messing with me on purpose?”

She slapped him, her anger flaring.

Sean was stunned, gaping at her in confusion. “What—?”

Breathing hard, Yvonne flung the report in his face. “Was that supposed to be funny? Playing a joke like this?”

Sean’s bewilderment was genuine. “I haven’t touched the results, you know me—I’d never mess with you like that...”

But then his eyes landed on the report, and shock washed over his face. He looked back at her, voice barely above a whisper. “Where did you get this sample?”

Yvonne’s suspicion grew, her voice trembling. “You didn’t tamper with it?”

Sean raised his hands in protest, desperate for her to believe him. “I swear, I’d never joke about something like this. Unless I was planning to walk out on you for good—which I’m not.”

She eyed him accusingly, not entirely convinced. “You sure you’re not planning to leave me?”

Sean let out a breathless, incredulous laugh. “Can we focus on the real issue for a second? Whose sample is this? I didn’t do anything to the test.

And according to the results, she really is your niece—your sister’s daughter.”

Yvonne’s hands shook as she picked up the report again. Her voice was hoarse, barely audible. “It’s... it’s Alicia. The young woman Tyrone married...”

Sean blinked in disbelief, then forced himself to stay calm. “Okay, just... slow down. Are you absolutely sure there’s no mistake with the sample?”

Tears pooled in Yvonne’s eyes as she shook her head. “I pulled her hair when she wasn’t looking. I just—she looked so much like my sister, and I just... I just did it without thinking...”

Sean pulled her closer, his voice steady. “Hold on. Don’t panic. This isn’t the time to lose your head.”

“I... did I really, finally find her?” Yvonne’s voice was a breathless whisper, as if she couldn’t quite believe it. “I have to go see her.”

Driven by a sudden impulse, Yvonne started for the door.

“Yvonne, don’t be reckless,” Sean said firmly, grabbing her arm. “If she really is your sister’s daughter, you can’t tip your hand now. If Brandon catches wind of this, do you really think you and Tyrone could protect her? He’s dangerous—if you rush in, you’ll only make her a target.”

Yvonne was trembling from head to toe.

She’d found her—after all these years, she’d finally found her.

And it happened when she least expected it, after all the false hopes and disappointments.

For years, she’d snatched hair from every girl who even vaguely resembled her sister, running test after test. At last, her persistence had paid off.

“You’re right,” she choked out, forcing a laugh through her tears. “The real culprit is still out there. Brandon still hasn’t been brought to justice... I can’t blow it now. I have to keep it together—just for a while longer.”

Her laughter dissolved into sobs.

Her sister had been gone for so many years.

At long last, she’d found her niece.
