âSo boring.â Yvonne rolled her eyes. âCanât you at least give me a little hope?â
Sean Quinn let out a resigned sigh, watching her with tired patience. âFine. If the DNA results show Nicole is really your niece, youâll marry me. Give me a child.â
Yvonne eyed him suspiciously. âYou wouldnât mess with the results, would you?â
Seanâs gaze turned serious, deep as a midnight lake. âDo you honestly think Iâd joke about the one thing you care about most?â
Caught off guard, Yvonne wrapped her arms around his neck in a playful, placating hug. âCome on, little brother. You know I didnât mean it like that.â
Sean didnât answer, but she could feel the way he tensed, the way she always seemed to have him wrapped around her finger. From the very first day they met, sheâd been able to read him like no one else.
...
Tyroneâs apartment.
Alicia lay on her back, fresh from the shower, hugging her stomach as she stared at the ceiling.
Is there really a baby growing inside me?
Sheâd just checked a parenting app, which said a little spotting was normal when the embryo implanted. So, that dayâit wasnât her period after all.
She was pregnant.
A blush crept up her neck, and she dove under the covers, squirming around like a caterpillar.
She really was having a baby.
Tyrone walked out of the bathroom just in time to see Alicia wriggling under the blankets. He chuckled and sat down on the edge of the bed. âIâve cleared my schedule for the week. Iâll stay home with you, and after that, weâll go in for the blood test together.â
He wanted to be there for herâhe couldnât relax otherwise.
Things still werenât calm with Nicole and Jade. Even though Brandonâs company troubles kept Jade in check, Nicoleâfoolish as everâwas still up to something.
âReally?â Alicia poked her head out from under the covers, eyes wide with delight as she looked up at Tyrone.
She didnât know why, but just hearing him say heâd stay with her made her heart flutter.
Tyrone nodded. Just then, his phone rang. He ruffled Aliciaâs hair before standing to answer the call.
âMr. Lynch, you asked me to discreetly redo the paternity test for Reginald and Nicole. The results are inâNicoleâs an impostor. Sheâs definitely not the real Nicole.â Felixâs voice was barely above a whisper.
Tyrone let out a cold, humorless laugh.
Brandon and Jade werenât even trying to hide their schemes. âLet the old man know, quietly. Tell him he canât trust anyone around him anymore, and that he needs to decide what to do next.â
Reginald was surrounded by wolves now. Heâd have to start cleaning house, watching his backâespecially against his illegitimate son Brandon and his granddaughter Jade.
âYes, sir.â
Tyrone hung up, feeling lighter already.
Nicole was a fake, which meant he could stall the engagement with the White family even longer.
And now Alicia was pregnant. The old man would have no more excuses to keep pressuring him about a divorce.
âTyrone, can I ask you something?â Aliciaâs head peeked out from beneath the blanket, curious eyes following him as he set down his phone.
He loves Serena so muchâso why hasnât he called off the engagement with the Whites? Why keep using me as a shield? âYouâre your grandfatherâs only grandson, right? So, the engagement with the White familyâitâs not like itâs set in stone, is it?â
If Tyrone really wanted out, surely his grandfather couldnât force him.
But instead of breaking things off, Tyrone always found ways to delayânever facing it head-on.
Tyroneâs shoulders tensed, his expression darkening.
Aliciaâs confidence faltered. âI... Iâm sorry. Did I say something I shouldnât have?â
Had she crossed a lineâtouched a nerve?

Nicoleâs mother and mine grew up togetherâthey were practically sisters. The engagement was arranged when we were kids. Then Nicoleâs parents were murdered in Seaview City, and she disappeared. My mother... she died young. Before she passed, I promised her Iâd find the real Nicole and marry her.â
