“What secret lover?” Tyrone’s deep voice rumbled from the phone speaker.

Nicole jumped, startled—then realized Alicia was on a video call with Tyrone this whole time.

“Grandfather, you’re old enough to know better. Yet here you are, getting your hands dirty along with the rest. Tell me, who’s really being ridiculous—

me, or you?” Tyrone’s anger was sharp and unmistakable.

“Hang up that phone—now!” the old man snarled at Albertine, his patience gone.

Albertine shrank back, knowing she couldn’t afford to cross these people. She glanced apologetically at Alicia. “Alicia, let’s end the call for now. We can talk this through together, okay?”

Alicia looked into Tyrone’s eyes through the screen. “I’m fine, really. Focus on your work. I can handle this—trust me.”

Tyrone frowned, wanting to say more, but before he could, Alicia ended the call.

“Maddox, you went as far as tracking down the woman who raised me just to find out if I’m pregnant. That takes real effort,” Alicia said coldly, no longer bothering with courtesy. He’d lost all right to her respect.
