Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Return of an Old Friend Seems Likely Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The Return of an Old Friend Seems Likely Yannis Griffith watched as his elder brother left, feeling a sense of suffocation in his heart. He also turned to leave, only to see Grace Harper standing in the kitchen doorway. He had no idea when she had come to stand there.
âWhat are you doing here?â Yannis asked before heading out.
âI was just looking for you. I saw you heading this way, so I followed you,â Grace said softly.
Yannisâs demeanor changed from his earlier doting towards her in front of his elders to a cold indifference. âSince youâre not feeling well, you shouldnât be walking around. Go rest, and Iâll have the servants take care of you.â As he was about to leave, Grace grabbed his arm.
âWhat about you? Arenât you going to stay with me?â
âGrace, you know very well whatâs between us.â
âIs it because of Cherish Turner? Ever since you came back and saw her, youâve become a completely different person. Are you regretting everything that has happened between us and wishing to spend your life with her instead? Yannis, deep down, sheâs the woman you truly love, isnât she? But what can you do? She seems to be in love with your elder brother! Are you going to let everyone in the Griffith family know that youâre in love with your brotherâs woman?â
âGrace, what are you talking about?â Yannis looked annoyed; he never liked being threatened.
âWhatâs the matter? Did I hit a nerve? Yannis, think about it. What would happen if your elders knew that you loved Cherish Turner? Would they still approve of her being with your elder brother? In a family like yours, prestige and reputation are paramount. If a woman were to come between two brothers and cause a rift, she wouldnât be welcomed into the family, would she?â
Yannis turned around to face Grace, his eyes burning with anger. âYou wouldnât dare!â
âWatch me! Yannis, I would do anything to be part of the Griffith family â so donât push me!â
Yannis stared at Grace intently, as if trying to gauge the truth in her words.
But Grace averted her gaze, no longer looking at him.
Grace walked out, her face adorned with a faint smile that left Yannis with a feeling of unease. Suddenly, he felt as if he had never truly known this woman.
â
It was almost eight in the evening, and Cherish was about to leave. Grace was also planning to return to her hotel. The Griffith family elders tried to persuade her to stay over, but she declined, saying it wouldnât be proper to stay at the Griffith residence before their wedding. Their elders appreciated her sense of decorum.
William took Cherish home, while Yannis escorted Grace to her hotel. Afterwards, they went their separate ways.
After Yannis left, Grace snuck out of the hotel, alone.
She took a taxi to the Cherry Blossom Garden Community, asking the driver to stop at the entrance. She walked through a small gate she had entered countless times before; she knew the Cherry Blossom Garden like the back of her hand.
As she stood beneath an apartment building, she saw Williamâs car â a Maserati she had spotted earlier when leaving the Griffith estate.
From a distance, she watched as William and Cherish shared a tender goodbye.
Unconsciously, Grace clenched her fists.
She had left this place for five years, assuming that most people had forgotten her by now. But now she had returned, determined to win back everything that had once belonged to her!
