INSEPARABLE DUO

My Heart Wrenched856 words~5 min read

AVA AND MICHELLE .

After that day, something shifted.

Ava and I started talking more-little things at first. She'd smile at me in the hallway, ask me random questions during class, or sit next to me at lunch.

It felt strange at first, having someone make an effort to talk to me.

I wasn't used to it.

But with Ava, conversations never felt forced.

She had this way of making everything feel light, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

One afternoon, as we sat on the school steps waiting for our buses, she turned to me.

"You're really quiet, Michelle," she said, tilting her head. "But I like that about you."

I raised an eyebrow. "You do?"

"Yeah. It's kinda nice. You actually listen when people talk. Most people just wait for their turn to speak, y'know?"

I hadn't thought of it that way before.

"I guess... I just don't always know what to say."

She grinned. "That's okay. You don't have to talk all the time to be interesting."

For the first time, I didn't feel like there was something wrong with me.

Slowly But Surely.

Over the next few weeks, our friendship grew.

Ava started sitting next to me in class, pulling me into conversations I wouldn't have joined otherwise. She'd invite me to eat lunch with her and her other friends, and little by little, I started feeling more comfortable.

One day, during gym class, she grabbed my hand and pulled me onto the basketball court.

"Come on, Michelle! Just one game."

I groaned. "Ava, you know , I'm terrible at this."

"So what? We'll be terrible together."

And just like that, I found myself laughing as we ran across the court, missing shots left and right. It didn't matter that we lost. For once, I was just... having fun.

THE REALIZATION

One afternoon, as we sat under a tree in the schoolyard, Ava asked me a question that caught me off guard.

"Michelle, do you ever wish you were different?"

I hesitated, then nodded slowly. "Yeah... all the time."

She looked at me thoughtfully.

"I used to, too.

When I was younger, I always tried to be exactly like everyone else so they'd like me."

I frowned. "But you're so confident."

She laughed. "Trust me, it took a while to get here. But you know what I learned?"

"What?"

"That the right people will like you for who you really are.

You don't have to change to fit in."

Her words stuck with me.

Maybe I didn't have to be the loudest in the room. Maybe I didn't need a big group of friends. Maybe I just needed the right ones.

And maybe... I had already found one.

The Best Friend I Was Waiting For

MICHELLE'S POV :

Months passed, and things were different. I wasn't the lonely girl sitting at the back of the classroom anymore. I had a friend-a real one.

Ava and I became inseparable. We walked to class together, shared our snacks, and spent hours talking about the most random things.

One day, as we sat in the cafeteria, I looked at her and smiled.

"What?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

I shook my head. "Nothing. I just... I'm glad you're here."

She grinned. "Me too, Michelle. Me too."

And just like that, I realized-Ava wasn't just a friend.

She was THE friend. The one I had been waiting for. The one who made me feel like I *belonged*.

And for the first time in a long time, I wasn't just wishing for a best friend.

I finally had one.

The inseparable duo of the entire classroom

They were always together-braiding each other's hair during recess, inventing secret handshakes, and sealing promises with pinky swears.

They were convinced they'd be best friends forever ♾️

Every weekend was spent at each other's houses-shopping together, doing homework side by side, and sharing every moment of their middle school years.

Their sleepovers were filled with whispered secrets, their late-night texts revolved around crushes, and their friendship was woven with endless inside jokes.

MICHELLE'S POV :

I still can't believe I have a best friend like everyone else. Someone I can confide in, someone who understands me.

Ava is one of the most important person in my life. She has always been there for me-whether I needed help with school, advice on life, or just someone to talk to.

We've shared countless memories, from laughing over the smallest things to supporting each other through difficult times.

No matter what happens, I know I can always rely on her. Her presence makes school life so much better, and every moment we spend together is one I truly cherish.

I am deeply grateful to have such a wonderful best friend, someone who brightens even my darkest days.

Friendships are among the most profound relationships we experience, shaping who we are, supporting us in our darkest moments, and celebrating our greatest joys. Unlike romantic relationships, friendships often come with an unspoken assumption of longevity-of always being there for each other, no matter what. But what happens when that bond is broke?
