Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2826
"Sir, I need you to tell me the truth... You know Joan, don't you?â
Although Dustin's sincere tone caught the old man off guard, the latter chose to focus on his work
instead of answering the question.
Seeing how unbudging the couple was, Dustin decided to do this the old-fashioned way. He
forcefully took over the old woman's task, hoping that the couple would soften up if he helped
them with their work.
âWhat do you think you're doing, young man? We donât know anyone named Joan. You should
inquire elsewhere,â the old woman urged.
However, no one could deceive an intelligent man like Dustin. So he exerted every bit of strength
and patience he had to aid the couple in untangling their fishing net.
Abelyn had noticed this from afar. She couldnât understand why Dustin took this approach, but she
knew that he definitely had a valid reason for doing so.
She soon jumped in to help as well.
The old woman nudged her husband's arm gently, whispering into his ear, âDarling, let's tell them.
They don't look like bad people to me...â
The old man gave in after seeing the two youngsters going all out to help them. He couldn't picture
Dustin and Abelyn as bad people, so he nodded in agreement. If they're really Joan's friends, it's
probably wiser for us to tell them. Otherwise, who knows what dangers might befall Joan?
The old woman motioned for Dustin and Abelyn to stop working. She said kindly, âThat's enough
now. Why don't the two of you take a break? Come in and join us for tea.â
At this, Dustin immediately put down the tools in his hands and rushed over.
Once they gathered in the living room, the old woman began prepping the tea and explaining, âI'll
tell you everything I know about Joan, but the one thing I cannot say for certain is her current
whereabouts.â
Dustin and Abelyn spent the next hour with their hearts clenched uncomfortably at the story of how
this old woman came to know Joan.
By the end of her explanation, they let out a long and unnerved sigh. They couldn't believe that
Joan had gone through so much alone.
Meanwhile, the old woman also had questions she wanted answers to. She eyed the two
suspiciously before interrogating, âIf you really are her friends, why didn't you come looking for
her?â
Abelyn stole a glance at Dustin, who didn't seem ready to talk. She then sheepishly lowered her
head, unable to meet the old woman's eyes as she pointed at Dustin.
She explained in a soft tone, âHe fell into a state of despair once we found out about Joan's
disappearance. He was too shocked and depressed to even look for her while I had to take care of
him...â
I see... The old woman believed that the two were truly Joan's friends after seeing regretful they
were for abandoning the woman.
âMadam, I canât thank you enough for taking Joan in.â Dustin flashed a grateful look at the old
woman before heading for the exit. At that moment, his heart was set on finding Joan. If she really is
dead, I'll do my best to recover her body. Dustin balled his fists in determination. He and Abelyn
later darted back to their cars, which they had parked next to the beach.
âWill you help me?â He turned to look at Abelyn, who stood next to him
To which, the woman patted his shoulder and affirmed, âDefinitely!â
She had never once hesitated when it came to helping Dustin; she would agree in a heartbeat,
regardless of whether she was overseas or in the country. Despite their occasional bickering and
bad days, they would still be there whenever the other person needed their support. This was their
promise, something that they had sworn to do as best friends.
Elsewhere, Della had retreated to her home country after news about the five million ransom broke
out. She needed to lay low for as long as she could. Moreover, she refused to let Jake dig up any
more dirt on her.
However, just because she retreated didn't mean that she had completely given up on pursuing
Larry.
"What is the meaning of this! You're leaving again?â Fred's displeased voice rumbled throughout the
living room.
Della didnât even flinch as she knew that her dad would react so negatively. She retorted in a low
voice, âDad, must you make such a big fuss? I'm only traveling abroad...â
How can I not be fussed? She almost took someone's life the last time she traveled there. What
nasty trick is she up to this time? Fred examined his daughter's face for any sign of mischief or
malice. He couldn't help but suspect if she was traveling back to pursue Larry again.
At this upsetting thought, Fred coughed violently as if his lungs were chafing from dryness. He
couldn't help but sigh inwardly at his current circumstances. His health had been declining these
days, and he barely had any strength to manage his businesses anymore, much less worry about his
daughter's mess.
