Y/n walked up the steps with Tyler, their fingers intertwined together.

Y/n was meeting his best friend, and she couldn't help to be nervous. Not only was she meeting Tyler's best friend but also his best friend's family.

She knew she shouldn't have been this nervous, it wasn't like it was Tyler's parents. She's just heard a lot of great things about Josh and was super excited and nervous to finally meet him.

Tyler looked down at y/n his eyebrows raised, asking for approval to knock. Y/n nodded, and Tyler proceeded to tap the wooden door with his knuckles in a familiar rhythm.

It didn't take long for the door to swing open, bringing y/n to face a guy in boxers, and messy hair. Y/n's cheeks flushed red as she looked down.

"Jordan! C'mon, man!" Tyler complained, tugging y/n along with him as he escaped the man in underwear.

"Sorry dude, I thought you were Josh. He isn't back from the gas station to get ice." Jordan shrugged, as he pranced his way down the hall to what y/n assumed was his room.

"Sorry about that. Sometimes he doesn't have a brain." Tyler rolled his eyes, and a familiar smell went through y/n's nostrils.

She turned to face the kitchen, hear a sizzling of food cooking on a pan. The house was small, dark, and smokey from the food cooking.

Soon a small body turned the corner from the kitchen, holding a wooden spoon, and an apron tied behind her waist. "Tyler! Y/n! So glad you're here. Josh went to get ice, and the girls won't be here tonight they all went to a concert with Bill."

Tyler nodded, showing off his teeth while he smiled. Y/n was still trying to wrap her head around the fact she knew her name.

Jordan soon returned, now fully dressed in a black skinny jeans and a mustard yellow hoodie.

He patted Tyler on his back, before shaking my hand as a greeting. "I'm Jordan."

Y/n smiled, before replying quietly. "Hi, I'm y/n."

"Oh, I know." He had a smug smile on his face, and Tyler elbowed him in the stomach, making him let out a small groan.

The front door flung open as someone stepped inside, a bag of ice covering the features on his face. Jordan rushed to help his brother with the ice bag, carefully taking it from him revealing Josh's face to y/n.

Her eyes went wide, and her mouth dropped to the floor. She cheeks got red, and she tried to hide her surprise.

When Josh's eyes finally met y/n's she received the same shocked expression from him. "Y/n!?"

"Josh?!" Y/n incredulously screeched.

"You guys know each other?" Tyler confusingly questioned, his eyes shifting between both of our surprised expressions.

Y/n shook her head as she looked down. "I mean, we were friends in tenth grade. I didn't know you guys were friends..."

Tyler let out a clearly forced laugh. "Oh, that's cool. So I guess I don't have to introduce you guys."

Y/n shook her head, as she felt Josh's eyes staring at her with disbelief.

Jordan laughed, clearly oblivious to the tension in the room. "Okay, bro, stop staring at your best friend's girlfriend." He waved his hand in front of Josh's eyes and Josh inhaled deeply, before passing them and heading for the kitchen, deciding not to speak a word.

Tyler gave y/n a questionable glance, and y/n only shrugged.

"So, Tyler, y/n, how is it going between you?" Momma Dun asked, glancing between Tyler and y/n.

Tyler gulped his food down before answering. "It's going good. I told her she had to meet my second family before meeting my first, you know? So here we are."

Momma Dun chuckled, and y/n could see Josh silently picking at his food, cringing as Tyler spoke.

"Working on any new song, boys?" Momma Dun began again, clearly sensing the awkward tension at the table.

"Yeah, I have a few ideas. Oh, dude, I have a really cool idea in my mind for a drum beat, I was wondering if you could come over after this and try to create it?" Tyler asked, glancing over at Josh.

Josh looked up at Tyler, avoiding any eye contact he could with Y/n. "Sure, baby boy."

Tyler smiled, gently placing his hand in y/n's as he continued eating.

"I say we all play Fortnite after this." Jordan chimed in, a chorus of no's from y/n, momma Dun, and Josh were heard. Tyler was the only one that replied 'okay.' "You guys are party poopers."

"I need to go to the bathroom." Josh mumbled, and y/n raised her eyebrows at him.

She then sighed. "Me too."

Momma Dun chuckled under her breath. "Well, I hope it wasn't my cooking."

Tyler watched both of them leave at the same time, suspiciously. He knew something was up in between them, he just didn't know what.

"Josh." Y/n started, making Josh stop in his tracks, and he turned to face y/n.

"Yeah?"

"I'm really sorry... about how our relationship turned out, okay?" Y/n paused for a moment. "Just... please don't tell Tyler."

Josh shook his head, looking down. "I wasn't going to."

Y/n sighed in relief. "I just... I feel like if we told him we had a relationship together he'd feel awkward and it'd ruin things, y'know? And it won't just ruin our relationship but it would ruin yours too."

Josh sighed. "No, I agree." He nodded.

"Thank you." Y/n stepped foreword placing a kiss onto his cheek. Josh just stared at the ground, not really knowing what to do at the moment.

"You should go." Josh says. "Tyler might get suspicious. We did just leave to go to the bathroom at the same time, and we only have one."

Y/n awkwardly chuckled. "Oh, my bad..." she then twisted on her heel awkwardly. "So... we're good?"

Josh gave her a small smile. "Yeah, we're good. Go have fun with your boyfriend."

Y/n entered the dining room again to see Tyler and Jordan talking about fortnite tactics, while Momma Dun rolled her eyes at the two boys, but a small smile was teasing her lips.

Y/n sat back down, Tyler immediately looking at her with concern. "You alright?"

Y/n looked at him confused, before nodding.

"Okay, you just seem quiet." He explained his concern, before placing his hand on her knee, massaging her kneecap.

"I'm alright." She promised, as Jordan began to talk about the port-a-fortresses. Y/n only guessed it was some sort of fortnite thing. Tyler seemed pretty interested though.

After dinner, everyone gathered around the TV. They were going to watch a movie before Tyler and y/n returned to their homes.

Josh came out soon after, and plopped himself on the couch, furthest away from y/n, I must add. He still felt slightly uncomfortable.

After a few minutes into the movie they were watching, Jordan and Josh began to make jokes about it, Tyler joining in soon after. It was sort of a girly movie, momma Dun was the one that picked the movie, so it made all of the boys crack up into laughter as they joked about how stupid it was.

Y/n was actually quite invested in the movie. After a while, Josh made his way to sit on the other side of y/n, deciding to be less awkward with her. He wanted to be friendly with her again, and didn't want things to be awkward for them.

"So, do you like watching this kind of stuff?" Josh whispered, "I mean, you are a girl so probably-"

Y/n was quick to answer, "did you just assume my gender?" And then chuckled right after.

Josh's face got red, but joined on the laughter. "Look, I want to be friends. I don't want it to be awkward between us just because we were some silly kids in tenth grade, okay?" He whispered, to where only y/n could here.

Y/n only nodded, not wanting to speak something and risk Tyler to hear. "To answer your question, yes, I do watch these kinds of shows."

Josh smiled at her conversation starter. "Me too, to be honest. They are so cheesy and sweet."

Y/n giggled softly, as she stared at the tv in front of her. She felt Tyler gaze over at her, a somewhat annoyed look on his face. He squeezed her hand gently, making her turn to face him.

"We should watch girly movies more often, they are so adorable." He whispered, and y/n nodded.

"Yeah," she replied, leaning her head on his shoulder. Josh didn't persist talking to y/n, and instead immersed his attention to the movie.

Once the movie was over, Jordan and momma Dun immediately headed for their rooms to sleep, leaving Josh, Tyler, and y/n.

"Thanks for coming guys, this was nice." Josh said, and y/n nodded.

"We should really do it again soon." She commented, and Tyler sighed.

"I don't know, maybe." Tyler said shortly, and headed for the door.

Josh reached in for a hug, y/n excepting happily. Tyler cringed at their contact, opening the door with a Ms much noise as he could make. "Y/n." He said impatiently.

Y/n nodded, waving at josh as they left. Tyler was silent as he stuffed his cold hands in his pockets, not even bothering to open the passenger door for her like usual.

Y/n found it odd but let it go. She didn't want to accept the fact that he probably guessed they had history.

The car ride was silent, Tyler looking ahead, as he gripped the steering wheel tightly.

Y/n glanced over at him, the tension building every second. "Is everything okay ty-"

"What the hell was that?" He interrupted, his voice louder tha he intended it to be.

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb with me, you know exactly what I mean." Tyler glanced over at her for a moment with furious eyes before turning back to the road. "How do you know each other?"

"I-"

"And don't just tell me you were friends in tenth grade, because I know that's not the case." Tyler cleared her of any excuses she could give.

Y/n sighed, leaning her head back in her seat. "We were an item in ninth and tenth grade, but then he moved schools— your school— and we drifted apart."

Tyler sighed, noticeably irritated by this. "Why wouldn't you two just tell me?"

Y/n glanced over at the agitated boy. "Because it was tenth grade, Tyler. It meant nothing."

"Oh, so now that we're seniors, the feelings you had for him are gone?"

"Yes!"

"Really?" He began to get more annoyed than he was, making him let out a sharp breath as he parked the car on the side of the road, feeling as though he couldn't drive right now.

"Tyler, calm down, okay?" Y/n calmingly placed her hand onto his sleeved shoulder.

Tyler took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair. "That was two years ago, y/n. And now here we are." He looked over at y/n, the anger draining from his eyes and being replaced with fear. "I just don't want to lose you."

Y/n shook her head. "You won't, I promise. I like you now. I like you more than I ever liked Josh. I feel like our relationship is going somewhere, and..." she took a deep intake of air. "I might actually be falling in love with you."

Tyler's face softened at her words, and his body relaxed, as he looked as if he was melting in his seat. "The reason I didn't tell you is because I didn't want you to worry or feel awkward about it."

Tyler nodded, as he pressed his forehead to the steering wheel. "I think I'm falling for you too."

A small smile took y/n's face at his words. Tyler looked up, smiling back, before leaning in and kissing her softly on the lips.

"I'm glad we're on the same page then." Y/n grinned. "Do you want me to drive?" She asked a few seconds later, and Tyler shook his head.

"No, sweetheart, I'm okay." His smile never left his face as he put the car in drive. "You know what? I don't think I've ever been this happy before."

Y/n chuckled at his comment, butterflies erupting in her stomach. She was glad she could make him happy.
