Tyler's POV
I moved to Rem Brooke when I was 17 years old. I always had a different perspective on life than most people, but the girl in the garden's perspective was so much more. It seemed as if she'd lived life and death. Does that make sense?
I'll just tell you the story, and let you decide.
The school year was stressful. No one payed attention to the new kid, which happened to be me. So, I would occasionally sneak myself to the park's garden during school hours. Just to get away.
The first time I went, there was a girl. She was under the biggest oak tree in the garden, and she looked about my age. She was beautiful, but I didn't talk to her. Now thinking back, I should've talked to her sooner.
She was probably skipping class too since she looked my age.
What I really seemed to notice is no one else seemed to care that she was there. It was as if they didn't see her, but how could that be?
Maybe she was just invisible like me.
Well, technically not invisible but people chose not to see me.
The second day I went to the park, she was in the same place. That time she had a notebook, and a pen.
I walked a little closer to her that day, and sat on the closest bench to her. I thought maybe she would notice me and come and say hi or something. She didn't.
The next day when I woke up I was determined to say hi to this girl. So when I got to school; I did at least one important class and then ditched it and ran to the garden.
Thankfully, she was there. I smiled and I began to approach her. I had those little butterflies you feel when you look at a crush. At the time I didn't really know why, I was sort of denying my feelings for her. I didn't even know the girl.
"Hello." I said, extending my shaky hand.
She looked up, and a small smile appeared on her face. Her eyes sparkled and she closed her notebook and got up.
"Hi." She shook my hand.
"I'm Tyler." I said and I tried to give her one of my best smiles. I guess that day I was feeling a bit confident and flirty.
"I'm Y/N." She giggled. It made my heart melt.
After that she invited me to sit down with her, and we talked a bit. I tried to ask her about her notebook but she said it was sort of private.
I understood that greatly, and still do to this day. Sometimes it's hard to show your creations or basically anything inside a notebook.
A few days past and we started becoming friends. I asked her why she's never at school or if she goes to a different school and is on break.
She shrugged. "I just chill around here most of the time. There's not much places I can go."
"What do you mean? Do you have strict parents or something?" I asked.
"Sort of I guess." She shrugged again and opened her notebook and wrote another thing inside.
I understand that it was her own personal stuff, but I couldn't help but be curious of what she was writing.
I watched her write and curve her letters. I smiled when I noticed her pen had a fluff ball on top of it.
"I like your pen." I said pointing to it.
"Oh yeah, thank you." She looked back down for a moment and looked up again furrowing her eyebrows. "You know, a pen sort of looks like a harpoon."
I furrowed my eyebrows. I was confused. She turned her pen around to demonstrate. The ink side facing up, and she poked it with her finger.
She kept it there for a second before releasing it and lifting her finger so I could see it. The ink was red. It sort of scared me at first because I actually thought she poked her finger, but then she giggled and went back to writing.
That was a weird day, but I couldn't stop picturing a pen and a harpoon. I mean, it made sense. It made a lot of sense.
The next few days were nice. We hung out, she would tell me random stories of her young childhood. They were sort of weird though, because she said she didn't have a phone or a TV.
I actually had to explain to her what they were. I told her I would bring her my phone so she could look at it the next day. I remember her getting so excited. That smile was amazing, and I tried all I could to make her do it again.
So of course, the next day I brought her my phone. At first she made a confusing look, and took it and examined it closely. But soon I told her how it worked and we played a game of connect the dots.
"You're really good at this game for never playing." I said suspiciously. "Have you played this before and lied so I'd go easy on you?" She giggled and gave me that huge smile loved.
"What? No! I swear I've never played this before in my life." She lifted her hands in defeat and I remember trying to think of another thing to accuse her for just to see her smile get bigger.
"No! No one is this good as a beginner. You're lying!" I shook my head while chuckling. And I was right, her smile grew bigger, until suddenly she stopped. Her face dropped, but she kept a small smile.
"I'm not lying." She said shrugging. She lost her teasing tone, and for a second I got scared. Did I do something wrong?
"Have you ever kissed someone before?" I asked a few minutes later.
"Yes. But only one man." She looked down and messed with her fingers. She seemed sort of ashamed by it.
"Oh." I was going to quit. I mean, I was expecting to kiss her, but she seemed pretty ashamed for kissing some man, so I didn't want to push her.
I drifted my gaze to my lap, and I remember seeing her from the corner of my eye quickly kiss my cheek.
I could practically feel the blood rush to my face and heat up. I smiled and quickly turned to her, and she was smiling back at me.
I moved my gaze to her lips and her smile got bigger until she pressed her lips to mine.
After a few seconds we broke apart. My stomach blew up with some sort of ticklish feeling and my whole body felt so alive.
I wanted more, I needed more.
I leaned in for another kiss, and she accepted. I tilted my head slightly so I could really deepen the kiss.
I still remember what her lips felt like; so soft and light as if they weren't even there yet they were. She tasted like cherries.
That was our first kiss. Well I guess a few more kisses happened after that. Soon I had to head back to school. I offered to take her with me, but her eyes grew wide and she hastily declined.
I shrugged it off and went back to school.
