âWe are so not doing this,â Lilliana said shaking her head.
Me, Lliana, Erik and Aaron had decided to go back to our flat and discuss the, I have to say,
job offer. But of course, all of them have to stand against me.
âYou think this is bad without a good reason for it? Well, thatâs really professional,â I told them sarcastically.
âThere is a reason, Amber. This was definitely not a coincidence. And this man and his Mrs. evil - glares wife are obviously using us to get something,â Aaron told me.
âThatâs a crappy reason to turn down a good offer like that.â I told him.
âWell, you canât just go with a bunch of people you donât know to explore an island that DOESNâT EVEN EXISTS.â Lliana said angrily.
âI donât know why donât you trust them that much they even seem like good people,â I told them honestly.
âLliana is right. Thatâs a total insanity,â Aaron tried persuading me again.
âOkay then, if youâre not coming with me, Iâm going on my own.â I took my decision bravely hoping that theyâll change their mind.
âYou canât,â Aaron said.
âWhy not?â I asked stubbornly.
Aaron opened his mouth to answer me but the door of Lillyâs room was opened and Erik was standing there with half of his body out.
âAmber, can you come here for a minute, please?â Erik asked politely which is completely not his way. I shot him a questioning look but he stood there silently.
Since we came here Erik took his laptop and locked himself in Lillyâs room during all the time weâve been arguing.
âUhm, Sure.â I told him and made my move towards the room.
I entered and he closed the door behind me.
âIs everything okay, Erik?â I asked him worried.
âYeah, I just thought that you should see this before you try persuading them,â He said then sat in front of his laptop and I sat next to him looking at the screen.
âWhat is it?â I asked.
âLook, I did a little research about that professor and the island he talked about,â He said.
âThatâs weird. Why would you do that? Donât tell me you donât trust them too.â I said.
âItâs not like that. I just thought that itâll be good to know those people and if they were lying to us before we take our decision,â He defended himself.
âAlright, What did you find?â
âYou know when that professor told us that he doesnât want any companies evolved in his research about this phantom island?â He started and I nodded.
âIt turned out that he and his wife were kicked out of the university they were working in, because they were working on a project that stood against the universityâs rules and threatened itâs business.â He was taking to me while showing me some of theirs and the universityâs photos.
âYou mean they tried to gather the team they wanted from the students and use the universityâs money to fund the expedition?â I asked.
âExactly, and no one knows where are they now or what are they planning.â He completed.
âI donât really see why have they been kicked out of it.â I told him.
âAre you kidding me? If the university actually let them go for it, thousands of dollars wouldâve been thrown in the air.â He explained.
âWhy didnât they consider that it could really be there?â
âBecause I searched for that phantom island and nothing came except some old myths about people who protects an island or something like that nothing scientific,â He said.
âI donât know. Iâve got a feeling thatâs telling me it really exists and that we should be going there,â I told him honestly.
âYou actually still want to go after all that Iâve told you? Think about it Amber, youâre contradicting all of your studies.â He asked me surprised.
âSure, why not?
âThink about it Amber, youâre contradicting all of your studies.â
âI think so. Just promise me that youâll keep all of these stuff you told me today between the two of us,â I told him. If Lilly or Aaron ever find out these things theyâll definitely not come with me.
âI donât think this is a good idea, Amberâ He shook his head.
âWhy? Iâll finally have the job Iâve always dreamed of and youâll get to work as well, itâll be fun.â I said happily.
âYou could be right. I donât know,â He hesitated.
âSo you promise me?â I asked.
âFine,â
âYou can leave the these two on me and no leaks, Erik.â I told him again making sure that heâll not open his big mouth to anyone and he nodded.
I jumped up and ran to the door getting ready to persuade these two.
Three hours later, we were all feeling sleepy and tired BUT my mission was accomplished and weâve made our plans, after calling, on meeting them in the address they gave us from the phone call.
I was incredibly happy that I thought I should prepare my stuff and pack my clothes but I can do that later in the morning.
