I woke up in the morning to a snowy weather. I walked through the empty streets that was filled with white snow.
I pumped into Tristan when I was walking. âI was looking for you.â I told him. âIs it normal to snow now?â
âNo, weâre supposed to be in summer. Come on.â We walked back to the tent. Professor Cyril, Erik, Aaron and Lilly were now awake. I went to find Tristan before they woke up.
âWhatâs happening? Why is it snowing?â Lilly asked.
We were sitting in the guysâ tent. âThe Earth started moving away from the sun.â Tristan offered an explanation.
âThe whole world must be in chaos now.â He informed us.
âYou sure about that?â Lilly asked and he nodded. Then all of them looked at me accusingly.
âThat canât be true.â I said shaking my head. Tristan sighed deeply and took us to his house and made us enter a room that had many devices mapping the Earthâs movement. It did stray from the orbit for a tiny bit, barely even noticeable.
âThere has to be a sacrifice.â Someone I didnât know who was sitting in the room told me.
I left the room and went to the shore. Sitting on the black sand I tried to decide if I should do it and die or not. I really donât want to sacrifice my life for it but itâs snowing.
âWhat should I do, Periwinkle?â I asked my baby penguin friend.
Itâs a really tough decision.
I felt a pat on my shoulder and I looked up to see who. Aaron was standing there with a gentle smile on his face and his violet eyes held so much tenderness in them.
âHow are you doing?â He asked me.
âWhat do you think?â I answered his question with another.
âI just figured that I should tell you something that maybe will help you decide.â He told me.
âReally? Whatâs that?â I knew that there was nothing to help me choose.
âI found out that I couldnât only control oxygen I can also can combine the dissolved oxygen particles that exist under the water and make a full oxygen molecules that weâre able to breathe.â He explained. I gaped at him.
âYou can do that?â He nodded. âThen you can breathe under water?â I asked wide eyed.
âYes.â He told me.
âThatâs amazing.â I smiled.
âItâs hard but I think I can help you drown the island.â Aaron looked at me waiting for my reaction.
âYou mean, keep my oxygen supply when Iâm under the water?â I asked.
âYes.â
âThatâs good, Thanks.â I said dryly biting my inner cheeks. When Aaron didnât see me excited about the idea he sighed and looked at me.
âLook Amber, I know that itâs not easy for you to do something like this and I know that you donât want to go into the water.
âBut, you need to trust me with this. I wonât let you drown. I will help you.â He promised me. I looked for him only to search his eyes for the permission if I should believe him or not and his eyes were pouring with seriousness and trustiness I kept asking myself if I can trust Aaron with my life.
âSo, youâre promising that you wonât let me drown and...â He cut me out.
âWill not leave you.â He promised firmly. I bit my lips nervously and looked at Periwinkle. My penguin friend was looking at me and I felt like he was begging me to do it.
âIâll do it then.â I mumbled still looking at Periwinkle. Aaron patted Periwinkleâs head. He quickly shifted into a brown baby bear and jumped at Aaron. He laughed and hugged him tightly.
