"Good morning," Louis mumbles, almost incoherently.
I smile against his skin. "I could get used to this."
"No ones stopping you."
I chuckle a breath. "Actually, we have to get out of bed soon. We have to be in Phoenix this morning. Plus, I really don't want one of the boys to come in here, guns ablaze, to find us laying around in bed--naked."
I look up to see his face scrunched up in distaste. "Yeah. That's not something I would ever live down."
"Nope," I sigh, moving to start getting out of bed. "So I suggest we get a move on. We have..." I trail to look over at the clock on the nightstand. "About an hour to clean up, eat breakfast, and hit the road."
"Well, come on, that leaves us a few more minutes." He smirks, reaching out to pull me back to bed.
"No..." I whine, not trying very hard to resist his efforts.
"Yes..." he whispers as I sit back down beside him, interlocking out lips. I smile into his kiss before gently pushing against his chest to look down at him.
"Nope."
He gives me a pout as I stand up to find something to wear. I bend down over my suitcase as I hear him get up off the mattress, it squeaking under his movement.
I pretend to not notice his actions until I stand up with a change of clothes in my hands and feel his arms wrap around my sides suddenly, causing me to gasp in surprise.
"I love you," he mumbles into my shoulder. I laugh as I catch my breath.
"I love you, too." He places another kiss to my neck before walking over to collect his swim trunks from the ground.
I hurriedly get dressed and Louis sneaks back to his room for a change of clothes.
Once we are both fully dressed, we walk out together to the kitchen to find everyone already there.
"Hey, guys. You about ready to get going?" I ask casually as Louis walks to the fridge and pours us both a glass of orange juice.
Hailee gives me a skeptic look, narrowing her eyes in concentration.
"What?" I ask, cautiously.
Her gaze narrows even more, and I furrow my brows in confusion. Finally, she seems to have found whatever she was looking for, and stands up straight with a suspicious expression.
"They did it!"
Louis spits out his orange juice and my eyes bulge out of their sockets.
"Hailee Nicole Jackson!"
"Avery Marie Williams!"
We stare each other down.
"Does any else find it weird that they do this whole name and stare thing more often than they should?" Niall asks as he watches.
"Shut up, Niall!" Zayn scolds, before turning to Hailee and I, who have yet to break each other's glare. "So come on, did Hails get it right?!"
I whip my head around to shoot my deadly look at him.
"You all suck!" I spit, not able to think of anything else to say. I can hardly deny it, and it would have been pointless anyways. Hails has been waiting for this to happen between us, and she can always tell. Even with Brad.
"Pay up, suckers!" Hailee laughs, holding her palm out in front of Harry.
He, along with Zayn and Niall, each place a twenty dollar bill in her hand.
"You bet on us?!" I cry incredulously.
"Hey! I mean, come on! This has been coming for a long time!" Harry defends.
"We just got back together!"
"Yeah, but we made the bet long before that." He shrugs casually.
"You are all disgusting!" I spit at them.
"Hey! Liam didn't do it, at least!" Zayn defends. I look over to see Liam sitting at the bar, awkwardly silent. I catch his gaze for a split second before looking back at the boys.
"Whatever!" I awkwardly sputter. "You have anything to say about this?" I turn to Louis.
"Honestly we should have seen this coming," he admits, looking as if there is no point in arguing otherwise. Dammit.
"I need new friends," I grumble to myself and walk back to my room to pack.
âââââ
"Avery!" Caroline calls as we are about to step up onto the bus. I turn around to see her jogging closer.
"Hi Caroline! Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything is fine. I just needed to talk to you."
"Oh. Okay... Um..." I trail, unsure of when or where she's intending this meeting to happen.
"Can I come in?" she asks, saving me from my awkward moment.
"Uh, yeah, sure."
We both hop on the bus to find that all the boys, along with Hailee, have gotten settled in once again. When they notice Caroline with me, however, they all direct their gazes towards us, slightly taken aback by her presence.
"What's up, Car?" Louis speaks up.
"Just need to talk to Avery for a moment. Do you boys--and girl--mind giving us the room for a sec?" she asks politely, although we all know she is hardly asking. Nevertheless, the oblige and go into the bunk area, closing the hallway door behind them.
I smile awkwardly at her and motion for her to sit down at the table.
"Would you like anything?" I ask before sitting down, trying to be as polite as possible to my boss.
"No, I'm fine. Just have a seat."
"Okay..." I mumble quietly, sitting across from her.
She takes a deep breath, quickly composing herself. "You and Louis."
Well... crap...
"Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about it. But... I don't know what to say," I admit, carefully.
"Well, I don't want to be the bad guy, especially since you have seemed to grow on me, and Louis is a great lad who deserves someone like you that makes him so happy. However, although I know the boys may not always make it seem so, this is a predominantly professional environment, and Louis is essentially your boss."
I'm starting to get a bad feeling about what she is trying to say. I open my mouth to somehow rebut her when she speaks up, silencing my momentary thoughts of resilience. "That being said, I can't bring myself to come between the two of you. As long as it doesn't come between you and your job, I am able to look past it."
I breathe out a sigh of relief, my shoulders physically slumping, happy that she didn't fire me on the spot. I smile wide at her.
"Thank you so much Caroline! And I promise I will not let it effect my work."
"Not so fast." She holds up her hand to pause me from continuing or getting carried away. "You are in the clear for now, but eventually Simon will have something to say to you about this. He won't be as easy to win over as I am. I suggest that while he handles the repercussions of your now public relationship, you do everything you can to prove to him that it will, at least, not interfere with your professional position."
Simon. Crap. Again...
"I can do that." I nod, affirming my commitment.
"I'm glad. I really do like you. And Brooklyn absolutely adores you, so I would hate to see you go for something so natural and innocent as love. It should be a wonderful and beautiful occurrence; not a dirty little secret to be embarrassed or ashamed of."
"Thank you so much Caroline."
She purses her lips, turning them up at the sides warmly.
"My pleasure. Now, I'll leave you to pass the message to Louis." She winks at me and walks out, knowing just as well as I do why that will not be necessary.
"Alright boys!" I shout and walk over to the door. I laugh softly and turn the knob. I pull it towards me quickly, revealing six toppled bodies laying at my feet. I just laugh at them.
"Idiots."
