Amnesia (5 Seconds of Summer)
"Aves!" Hailee screams as she runs out of the terminal. She collides with me in a huge hug.
"Hails! Oh my god! What are you doing here?!" I scream. We are all picking up the boys at the airport in Honolulu for the concert. I had no idea she would be coming over with them, though!
"Harry decided it would be a nice surprise to fly me over here! I met the boys in LA last night from London and just came over with them! And also... Gen!"
I laugh at my friend's excitement. I look behind her and find Gen stalking towards us, expecting a similar, or at least welcoming, interaction with my sister.
Instead this happens;
"This is for everything." She slaps me straight across the cheek.
Annie and Katie are cracking up behind me, Hailee is trying to suppress a smile, and the boys are just standing at the entrance of the terminal, shocked.
"Seriously?!" I screech. I guess I shouldn't even be surprised, though. It'd Gen, after all. She is full of devilish surprises.
"You left me at home. You went to Hawaii, and left me at home. THAT IS NOT OKAY!"
"Gen!" Annie cries from behind me, breaking Gen and I's glaring battle.
"Annie!" she calls back, running over to her with open arms.
"Feelin' the love!" I yell at them. They just laugh along together at my irritation.
Whatever...
I turn back around to the boys who are making their way over to us. My eyes meet the familiar blue irises I have missed. On instinct, I almost run over into his arms, I missed him so much. But, then I remember I can't do that anymore.
I divert my eyes back down to the ground, avoiding any more awkward eye contact.
"You guys ready?" I mumble, looking back up, keeping my eyes on the remaining four boys.
"Yep! We have a show to get ready for!" Niall cheers, trying to lighten the suddenly sullen mood.
"Great! Let's go!" I shout, trying my best to be peppy. I know I'm failing miserably, but I don't even care. I just have to get through this day.
âââââ
"We have to get you boys ready for the concert tonight so stop fooling around and follow me," I tell them angrily. They all stand many steps behind me, most likely afraid I will explode, but I really just want to cry into one of their shoulders-- anyone's shoulder.
"Zayn, come here," I tell him as I stand by his rack of clothes. I pull out a shirt and pants and hand them to him.
"Um... Aves?"
"What?"
"These don't match," he says cautiously. "They're both plaid."
"Oh. I'm sorry. Here wear this instead," I say, taking them both and handing him a white tank top and black jeans, sending him off to Lou. I go through the first four before finally calling Louis to me. I want to punch him in the throat, but at the same time, I want him to hold me and tell me everything will be okay. I don't look at him. The only time I do, is to see if his outfit actually works.
"Avery, please talk to me."
"You have a show to do, have fun," I say, trying my best to give a decent smile. He sighs, defeated, before walking away to Lou. I hear the door close and I slide down against the wall. I sit on the floor in the center of all the racks, when Hailee comes strolling in.
"Oh my god, Avery what's wrong?" she asks frantically. I just shake my head as tears start to roll down my cheeks.
"I think Louis and I broke up," I cry as she drops to the floor and I collapse into her arms.
"Oh, babe, I'm so sorry! When?!"
"After the interview," I mumble quietly and look up at her. A wave of understanding crosses her face and she pulls me back into her arms. I cry into her shoulder, my entire body shaking from the sobs.
"Shh, it's gonna be alright. We can get through this. We can get through anything," she coos, trying to calm me down. Luckily, it calms me down a little bit.
She's right. We could get through anything together. We have before. It's the two of us against the world, and we can always handle whatever it throws at us. No matter what.
"Bathtub?" she whispers softly.
I chuckle and look up to meet her gaze.
"Bathtub."

Hailee's POV
Great. As soon as I saw that interview I knew something was going to happen. I really just want to kick Louis in the nuts right about now. He crossed a line saying that. He hurt my best friend and bitch is gonna pay. He best stay far away or else I'm gonna explode on that boy.
I sigh and step out into the hallway, closing the dressing room door behind me.
I spent the last thirty minutes comforting Aves. Seriously, Louis better watch his back, or his balls at least.
I inhale deeply before turning to walk to the boy's dressing room to find Harry. I am hoping Louis will be running off somewhere else so I won't have to deal with him just yet.
When I turn the corner that leads to the boy's room, I crash straight into Liam.
Crap.
Awkward. I forgot about him.
"Uh, hey, Hailee, I was just, uh, looking for you actually," he stutters.
"Well, you found me." I shrug awkwardly. Add him to the list of people to avoid.
"Yeah," he chuckles, obviously just as uncomfortable as I am in the situation. "Um, here, uh, come here." He walks past me and opens the first door on the right that I passed. He holds it open expectantly, so I follow his lead and walk through. It's another dressing room, just like the boys', only vacant.
I turn around once I hear Liam close the door behind us.
"So, what's up?"
"I, uh, just wanted to say that, umm..." he starts.
I'm already on edge and this is just making me want to snap his head off.
"Spit it out, Li!" I screech, unable to restrain myself.
"Okay, yeah, right. I just wanted to clear thing between us." He gestures with his hand in the space between our bodies.
"There is no 'us'. There was one night, you were upset, I was stupid. That's it. I'm with Harry now," I explain, calmly.
"Yes, that's what I wanted to say. You have Harry, and I think you two are great for each other. So we both agree this... mistake... stays between us?" he clarifies cautiously.
"Of course. I'm your friend, and Harry's girlfriend. That's it. Nothing other than that had ever happened. Deal?"
"Deal." He smiles, relaxing. "And, I would actually like it if we could go back to being friends?"
I smile widely, at him, letting him know I'm not angry or upset with him.
"Of course."
His shoulders physically slump as he walks over to capture me in a hug. I squeeze back, hoping he'd believe all is good between us.
Well, I guess Louis is now the loner on my 'to avoid' list.
Sorry, Lou.
âââââ
Avery's POV
I pull myself off the ground and move over to the mirror to assess the damage.
Thank god for water-proof mascara. There is only minimal damage, seeing as I didn't bother putting eyeshadow on today. I quickly reapply my lipstick and touch up my mascara. After a little concealer for the bags under my eyes and hiding a bit of the puffy redness from crying, I'm nearly good as new.
I take a deep breath and pull out my phone. It's only seven, so the boys still have an hour or so before the concert starts, and my job is done. Granted, their outfits aren't my best work, but they aren't half bad, either. I even added a lei to a few of the boys, and Harry has a flower crown made of pink and white plumeria, just to give them a little Hawaiian flare. Louis even insisted on wearing a grass skirt and coconut bra over his outfit.
Louis.
I honestly hate saying his name, even in my head. It makes me sick to my stomach. I know I shouldn't really be mad at him, per say, but it's easier than plainly feeling hurt. At least if I'm mad I can get angry. It doesn't feel as helplessly pointless as being hurt.
I suddenly hear a faint knock on the door and jump nearly a foot in the air. I turn around and see Liam poking his head in the door.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," he apologizes, tentatively.
"No, it's fine. I just got stuck in my head a bit."
"Oh. Yeah," he affirms, awkwardly. "You want to talk about it?"
I shake my head. "I just want to forget about it," I say, turning to lean against the vanity table. "Forget about everything."
"Yeah, I know how it feels to wish you could forget all about a person," he mumbles, softly. So softly, I'm not even sure if he meant for me to hear it.
"Who?"
His head pops up to me. "Who what?"
"Who do you wish you could forget all about?"
"Oh," he sighs heavily, slowly walking over to me. "No one. She's just a friend of mine. Off limits, ya know?"
"Yeah, I know what you mean. What's she like?" I ask, honestly curious. It sounds like something that can get my mind off of things for a bit, so I grab at the chance. Plus, I haven't heard anything about his mystery girl, which surprises me. He's usually a relatively open person, and we have grown closer over the past few weeks, so I'm shocked I have yet to know anything about her.
"Well, she's gorgeous," he begins, meeting his gaze with mine. His eyes light up as soon as he starts speaking about her. "She's crazy, and fun, and funny. She has a past, but doesn't let it push her around too much. She's strong and brave. She's dedicated and determined and knows how to get what she wants. She is the best person I have ever met, and I want more than anything to be able to forget about her, and how she makes me want to protect her from the world so that nothing can ever touch her. How she makes me want to work harder so that I'll be good enough for her. How she makes me fall in love with her every time I see her. I just want to be able to forget how much I love her and want her to be mine."
I'm taken aback. He seems so true and genuine and... broken.
"If she is all that you say she is, why not make her yours?"
He shakes his head, averting his gaze to the ground. "Like I said, she is off limits. A friend."
"If she really means that much to you, then you should fight for her. Show her how much she means to you. Show her how much you lo--"
I'm cut off by Liam's lips connecting with mine.
âââââ
Hailee's POV
"Who should we find first? Harry, Michael, or Avery?" I ask Gen.
"Umm, let's go for Niall." She smiles innocently.
"Gen."
"Okay, okay. Michael."
"Let's do this," I giggle as we walk through the giant stadium, heading through various hallways and turns. We step through a small opening and find ourselves standing on the stage.
"How did we do this?" Gen asks, frustrated.
"I don't know," I groan before taking her under my arm and leading her back towards the way we came.
"Hailee?" I hear an Australian accent call to me. I turn around, knowing it is one of the four Australians I know.
"Lucas!" I yell happily when our eyes met. I let go of Gen for a second and walk to the tall and awkward boy, hugging him tightly.
"How are you? I haven't seen you in so long!"
"I'm good! Oh! Luke this is Avery's little sister Gen. Do you happen to know where she is?"
"Hi Gen!" He smiles at her before turning back to me. "I haven't seen her. She might be in our dressing room?"
"Take us there, yes?" He nods before bringing us closer to the small, smelly, and loud room. I wish Gen didn't have to experience it... I wish I didn't have to experience it.
"She isn't here in here, Lucas." I roll my eyes as we enter the room.
"She was, like, five minutes ago."
"Maybe she'll show up." I shrug taking Gen to the couch to sit down. We all sit talking and having a good time when Michael walks in.
"Mikey!" I yells jumping up and into his arms.
"Hailee!"
"I've missed you so much!"
"I've missed you too! I have so much to tell you." He smiles. "Calum! Put on some pants, dammit, there are children here!" he yells to a half naked Calum.
"Sorry," he mumbles as he takes a bite of a donut.
"I hate you," he mumbles to himself before turning back to me. "Anyways, continue." He smile.
"We'll catch up later, have you seen Avery?"
"Avery is here?!"
"Yeah, somewhere," I laugh.
"I don't know, maybe the One Direction dressing room? Luke! Show her how to get there." Luke bolts up from the couch and catches up to me.
"Gen wanna come?" I ask and she nods quickly. She runs up to Luke and I and wraps her arm around my waist, mine around her shoulders.
"Don't try anything Hemmings, she's my sister!" Michael scolds Luke.
"I won't, calm down," he chuckles as he leads us to the dressing room.
"You better not," Mikey warns. Luke just flips him the bird and carries on.
"I think Harry's over here, too." Luke smirks at me and I blush.
"Avery first, then we'll find Harry."
"Here's the dressing room, I'll leave you girls alone." He smiles. I thank him and he walks back to the other boys.
"Let's do this," Gen says, opening the door.
"Avery, I know you're up--"
"Oh my god!" she screams, pulling away from Liam's lips.
"What the fuck Liam?!"
"Hailee I--"
"Do you do this to everyone?!" I ask, smoke fuming out of my ears.
"What do you mean everyone?" Avery asks, confused.
"Never mind that, what are you doing Avery?!" I yell.
"I-I don't know."
"This isn't like you, Aves. I don't know what happened between you and Louis, but I know this is not the solution." She bows her head in shame and defeat, letting a few tears fall from her face. She looks back up and turns to look at Gen.
"Gen?" she says, weakly.
"You little prostisloot," she whispers, holding up her fist to bump with mine. We are standing, staring at the two, when Niall comes up behind us carrying a life-size cutout of Obama. He looks at Gen and I, clearly upset at Avery and Liam, and shakes his head a little.
"I blame America!" he says angrily, continuing on his way.
"Oh my god, I LOVE YOU!" Gen yells to him as he wanders off.
"Love you too!" We hear a faint Irish accent yell back.
"We're going to go now, go ahead and make out more or do whatever it was that we interrupted!" I say angrily. I walk out of the dressing room, closing the door and furiously walking out back to the 5SOS boys. I turn around and run into Harry.
"Babe, what's wrong?" he asks, grabbing my arms to steady me.
"I'm going to go back with Luke and Mikey," Gen says quickly running away.
"I-It's nothing."
"You don't look too good," he says, cupping my face with his hands.
"I can't tell you."
"Of course you can, you can tell me anything."
"I just saw something I wish I didn't," I say, flashing a small smile. He wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me close to his chest, biting his bottom lip. I bring my arms up behind his neck and peck him quickly on the lips, pulling away instantly.
He pouts. "Come back and finish what you started."
"Maybe later." I smirk, walking away from him. He runs after me and wraps his arm around my waist, kissing me properly on the lips.
"No. Now."
"Harold!" I yell as he trails his hand down my back. "Patience is a virtue."
"Ugh! Fine," he sighs. We walk back to 5SOS dressing room / hang out area.
"Harry!" they all yell in unison as we enter the little room.
"Hey guys!" He smiles.
"Did you find Avery?" Michael asks as I sit down next to him. He raises an eyebrow at me, asking silently for me to tell him what I'm hiding.
"I'll tell you later."
"I'm happy I get to see you." He smiles wrapping his arm around me.
"So am I, bro." I smile.
âââââ
Avery's POV
I can't believe that just happened. Without even looking back at Liam, I run out of the room and take off down the hallway.
I can't breathe. Why did he kiss me? Why did I kiss him back?
This ia just great. Like I didn't have enough to deal with with Louis. Now I have to add Liam to the list of problems I've created in my life.
I'm not looking where I'm going, so when I turn the hallway corner, I collide right into someone. I groan in my head. I am so not in the mood to deal with anyone else and I am two seconds away from collapsing in a fit of tears on the floor. I just want to hide in a corner all alone. Not have to apologize to a random stranger I nearly knocked to the ground.
"Avery?" the person calls and I look up to a purple-haired boy standing right in front of me.
"Mikey?!" I cry, surprised. "What are you doing here?!"
"We are the opening band. Louis told us not to mention it because he wanted to surprise you when you saw us. SURPRISE!" he calls out dramatically and pulls me into a huge bear hug. When we were growing up, Mikey and I became pretty good friends when he came to America for the summers. I haven't seen him since I moved and we sort of lost touch. I had forgotten Louis told me they were on tour with them.
"I missed you so much Mikey!" I cry into his shirt.
"Hey, hey, hey. What's up?" He pulls me back to look at me when he realizes I have tears streaming down my face.
I laugh at myself and try to wipe my cheeks. "Sorry. I am kind of an emotional wreck at the moment."
"What happened?" he asks, sounding honestly concerned. I seriously missed this boy. He could always make me feel better, and I could tell him anything. At a certain point, we almost became as close and Hailee and I. He was like my brother. Plus, he's basically a punk teddy bear.
I sniffle, tears pooling at my eyes again. "Louis and I broke up."
"What happened?!" He sounds shocked by the news. I guess he didn't see the interview. "Louis had been talking about how you two were together just a few days ago in LA."
"When was this?"
"I don't know." He shrug. "The first night he got there."
"Did you see the interview?" I whimper.
"No..." he answers cautiously.
"Well, do you remember my boyfriend, Brad?"
He scoffs. "Yeah, I remember him. Sorry, but he was a tool. What happened to you two, anyways?"
"It's a long story... but he showed up at the interview. Louis and him got into it, a little bit. He said some private information he knew was a big deal for me. And so, yeah." I shrug.
"What did he say?" he asks, slowly.
I take a deep breath. Every else knew. May as well fill him in. "I tried to kill myself because of him."
His concerned expression turns to shock and bewilderment. However, without another word or question, he pulls me back into his arms and holds me tight, resting his head on top of mine. I begin letting the tears flow freely into his chest.
He turns to kiss the top of my head. "I'm so sorry, Aves. I am so, so sorry. I love you, Avey."
I hold on tighter to him, gripping him like he is the only thing in the world that can keep me safe. "I love you, too Mikey."
