Why Don't We Go There

Avery's POV

"Hails, meet One Direction."

"Oh my gosh, I can't believe this is finally happening! Hi guys I'm Hailee," she says happily.

I know she's been dreaming about this moment forever. She's even told me a few of her imaginary scenarios where she meets them and they become best friends. The current scenario was never considered, however.

She shakes all the boys hands. "Very lovely to meet you," Louis says as she finishes introducing herself.

"Um, not to sound rude or anything, but where is Harry?" Hailee asks, as she realized a certain curly haired boy was missing. Harry has always been her favorite.

"I'm not sure, maybe he went to get a snack?" Liam says.

"I can go look for him if you want?" Niall says, already beginning to step away to look for his friend.

"No, it's fine." Hails smiles. I know she is pretty upset he isn't there, especially after I had said he would be waiting for her. I honestly didn't think I'd have a problem following through with that statement. But I guess I have no control over when Harry decides to go MIA.

"How about I give you a tour?" Liam says. Hails looks to me, begging for approval. I just nod and she squeals a little before following Liam. They walk off as he puts his arm around her waist, guiding her through.

"She seems nice," Zayn says, bringing my attention back to the remaining three members of the band.

"Yeah. Not as crazy as she had seemed," Niall agrees, chuckling a bit.

"Yeah, she's great! And I know it won't be long before you love her as much as I do."

"I'm sure you're right. Anyone good enough to be best friends with someone like you must be pretty amazing," Louis says, winking at me.

We both momentarily forget there are still other guys around, watching as we absentmindedly flirt.

They stare at us questioningly.

Crap. We really need to get better at this whole 'down low' thing.

Luckily, they seems to just shrug it off, Zayn saying, "Okay, well I am gonna go to the greenroom and then get some food before Paul calls us for rehearsal."

"Oh, food? I think I'll join you," Niall says, suddenly more excited at the mention of food.

They both say 'bye' and walk off, leaving Louis and I behind.

"So, what should we do?" I ask. My words seem to give him a thought, as he looks at me with a sudden mischievous expression.

I narrow my eyes back at him questioningly. What is going on in this boy's mind?

"Louis! Not so fast! Ah!" I scream as Louis pushed me on his skateboard around the auditorium. He is holding me by my waist, running beside me and the board.

I don't know how to skateboard, and this is his brilliant solution for me to learn. But, let's be honest, I'm not actually learning, nor am I particularly interested in, how to ride a skateboard. I am more just nodding and agreeing whenever he tells me how to do something. I listen to the parts I need to while he pushes me. So basically, steering.

We ride through the large room and to the back, into a long cement hallway.

"Keep steady!" Louis calls at me.

"Easy for you to say!" I laugh back at him.

As the walkway curves, I try to lean into the turn as Louis had taught me. At first, I'm doing really well at it, but then I start to feel myself turning a little too much, directing me straight into the wall. I try to turn away but it's already too late for either Louis or I to do anything. We are going too fast to stop in time, so instead, right before the tip of the board comes into contact with the wall, I hop off. I hear the skateboard clatter against the cement.

I stumble forward, dragging Louis with me slightly as I brace myself against the wall. Right when I turn around to put my back against the wall, Louis comes crashing into me, extending his arms on either side against the wall to keep himself from crushing me completely.

I look up at him, both of us breathing heavily. I can feel his labored breaths on my skin. His hair slightly tousled from the fall, and his eyes wild with adrenaline, making the blue seem even brighter, electrifying his sharp features.

"Oops," I breathe.

"Yeah," he exhales, fanning my hair out of my face, only to have it fall back into place.

I notice him quickly look down at my lips as I mimic his actions. Without acknowledging him moving, slightly frozen, I realize the gap between us shrinking fast, and before I know it, his lips are on mine.

I gasp at the contact, which seems to encourage him more. This kiss isn't like the ones before. This one is hungry and desperate.

His enthusiasm ignited the same feeling in me. When he grazes his tongue along my lower lip, I don't hesitate to part my lips, allowing him entrance. I reach my hands up to comb through his hair. When I can't refrain from tugging harder on his hair, I hear him let out a moan against my lips, before pressing his hips harder against mine, slightly beginning to grind against me. I move my hips against his in response. The friction seems to make him gasp with a low rumble through his throat.

"God I love your lips," he groans and presses his mouth harder against mine.

His hands move from the wall to my hips. He holds me so hard against him, it almost hurts, but I couldn't give two shits at the moment. If anything, I liked it. He slowly began trailing his hands up my torso, tracing my ribs with his thumbs. His hands continue venturing upwards until they come into contact with the underwire of my bra and I shudder. He seems to take this as a denial and moves his hands back down. I reach down and grab his wrists, tugging his hands back to where the were before. He sucks in a sharp breath. He begins tracing his thumbs around the undersides, all the way to the side curves. I can't help another shudder rip through me and groan against him.

I release my fingers from his locks, dragging my nails down his chest, before bringing them to grip the collar of his open, loosely fitted button up, pulling him closer to me and pressing his body into mine.

This. All of the hiding and sneaking around is worth it for this. As long as I can be close to him like this, I can handle anything this relationship brings.

"Honestly, he was a disgusting human being," Hails says, bringing up a past blind date she let one of our friends set her up with.

"Really? Why?" I ask, already failing at controlling my giggles.

"He was just so arrogant and ignorant of the more important things in life. I want someone who I can talk about how important happiness or love truly is compared to money."

"You have always been one for happiness," I tease her.

"Okay, so maybe I like to have money Avery, but ugh! He was just such an asshole," she whines.

"I'll set you up with Harry, once he pops back in."

"Ha! I don't think so," Hails shrieks, seemingly irked at the thought of it.

"WHAT? YOU don't want to date Harry?" I ask, extremely surprised.

"I ran into him when Liam was giving me a tour and he seemed like a jerk. I don't know what his problem was. And he was staring at me creepily, I was a little scared," she giggles, only slightly jokingly.

"Hm, thats odd, he's usually a good guy I swear," I say, trying to lighten her mood. She runs her fingers through her hair, pushing all the loose hairs back and shrugs.

"Hey Hails?" she looks up at me, smiling. "Bathtub?"

She looks as she if she can't hold back the laughter that escapes her lips as she replies, "Bathtub."

I stand up and give her a big hug.

"Give him another chance, nice guys can be assholes every once in a while," I chuckle and she nods in response. "Anyways," I continue, "I know you probably know already, but there's an award show tonight. Some European thing and I, being the loveliest friend, got you a ticket." I smile, excited and slightly proud of my new standing in the world of fame and fashion.

"No way," she says with wide eyes, not yet buying the fact that she will be able to go to a celebrity award show.

I reach into my back pocket and hold out a ticket.

"Way."

She squeals as she snatches the ticket from my hand to look at it up close. She stands up and gives me a hug jumping up and down.

"OH MY GOSH THANK YOU!" she yells excitedly, before stopping abruptly to look at me worriedly, when she asks,"What am I going to wear?"

"One step ahead of you," I smile taking her hand and running towards the tour bus. We run in and go towards the back where there is a little room where I had hung up our two dresses; one navy blue lace dress and a red high-low.

"Yours is the red. These awards aren't like the Grammy's or anything, so we went for the ever so effective red, to find you a handsome gentlemen," I wink.

"Oh god," she laughs as she takes the dress to hold it up.

"Go try it on! The bathroom the first door on your left," I squeal.

She smiles and goes into the bathroom to put it on.

I hear the door lock and pull out my phone to check Twitter while I wait. Since I became a part of the 1D team, my twitter has exploded. I had gained over 200,000 followers within the first three days.

@averytheassistant

I lock my phone and set it down next to me while I pick my nails that I have yet to do. Suddenly, my phone buzzes with a Twitter notification on my lock screen. It was a notification that one of the people I have set up to notify me tweeted. I open it and see it's Oli Sykes.

@olobersyko

@averytheassistant maybe i'll see you there then! :) must say surprised you're a fan!!

Ok. Breathe. In. Out. In. OUT. Oli Sykes tweeted me. He knows I exist. He has acknowledged my existence. I have been a fan of Bring Me the Horizon for so long! I don't even know how he knows about me! Or that I'm a fan! Okay, well that one, I mean most of my tweets are lyrics. Not on purpose, really. I just like them. And, yes, there are definitely some BMTH. But, still.

He must still be sitting on Twitter, because he responds back almost immediately.

@olobersyko oh my god i'm leaving before you type out an entire song xD see you tonight!!!

@olobersyko

@averytheassistant looking forward to it!!!

I smile and lock my phone again. I start processing what just happened. Oli Sykes noticed me. He acknowledged my presence. Well that's certainly a job perk I never expected. But I mean, I'm not complaining.

Suddenly, I hear a slight knock on the door before it opens slowly, and Louis appears in the doorway.

"Hey, Aves, you got a minute?" he asks, still standing by the entrance.

"Yeah, Hailee is just trying on her dress for tonight."

"Yeah, well, about that. I was wondering if you would be my date? I figured we could tell the boys that you were coming anyways, and it would be more fun if you came as a date that way you can stay with us during it all."

Without having to give it a second thought, I answer, "I would be honored to go with you Louis."

"Great, well I'll come get you at 7:00," he says happily.

"Sounds perfect!" I smile.

"Oh one more thing, do you think Hailee will go with Harry? He's been in a weird mood since we got off the bus for whatever reason. Maybe having someone to go with will loosen him up a bit."

"Oh definitely!" I say. I know Harry and Hailee got off on the wrong foot, but maybe this will give them a chance to start over.

"Alright, well I'll leave you to get ready," he says, still smiling like the big fool he was.

I smile to myself before walking over to see if Hailee has finished.

"Aves! Can you zip me?" she asks as she comes out of the room. I nod and walk over to her, zipping up the back of the dress.

"I love this dress on you!" I beam as she admires the dress herself, doing a little twirl.

"I really like it too!" she giggles.

"Well, the boys will be here at 7:00, so lets do make up yes?" I say excitedly, clapping my hands and pulling her to sit down on a little chair.

"Snap, we are going to make you look so gorgeous for Harry."

"Harry?" she ask, obviously unaware that she will not be arriving at the award show alone.

"Yes, Harry."

"No, I'm not going," she protests, as I halfway expected she would.

"Yes, you are," I say holding her face to do her eyeshadow.

"Okay, fine, I am. But I don't want to go with him if he's only using me as a date."

"How did you know that?" I say, stopping what I was doing and standing back to look at her. She evades my gaze before turning back and meeting my eyes again.

"Fine! I was snooping!" she admits, seemingly defeated.

"Why?" I yell at her.

She explains how she was looking for me and how she didn't want to interrupt my moment with Louis and I am a little less upset at her.

Deciding to move on from her snooping for the time being, I finish doing her makeup, then move on to doing my own.

I know Hailee would have done it, but we both know she is not very talented in that department, so she sits and watched me as I do it.

"Should I wear the black, or the silver heels?" Hailee asks.

I turn to face her after applying my lipstick and focus on the two pairs of shoes.

"Black."

"Rock on," she says before easily slipping on the black pumps.

They are high, but not too high. Just high enough that they aren't impossible or torturous to walk in fairly easily. I already slipped on my gold, sequin, heels. They are taller than Hailee's, but still nowhere near impossible.

"I can't believe that it's almost seven already. We took only like three hours to do everything. Look at us!" I cheer at our accomplishment. We high five and giggle, then walk towards the front of the bus.

"They should be here any minute," I say.

A few minutes pass before Louis knocks on the door before coming onto the bus, Harry following behind him. Louis is wearing a white v-neck and blazer with black jeans, and Harry wears a white button up, black suit jacket, and black jeans.

"You look beautiful," Louis says as he walks up to me, eyeing my outfit before looking up to meet my eyes once again, smiling. He holds out his arm for me to take, and escorts me out of the bus, leaving Harry and Hailee to catch up to us.

I smile, leaning on him a little more than what would be seen as casual, before sliding into the limo through the door he holds open, then takes his own seat beside me, closing the door behind him.

I look up to him smiling. "Hi," I say softly.

"Hi," he says back with a smile.

I lean in to give him a quick peck on the lips, taking advantage of the moment alone.

"Ready for our first 'only friends'--or otherwise--date?"

I giggle at his kinda joke. "Very." I smile before leaning in for one more kiss.
