The Fair - Long

Luigi Mangione - Imagines589 words~3 min read

It was one of those perfect summer days, the kind where the sun was high, the air was warm but not too hot, and the scent of popcorn and cotton candy filled the air. We'd made our way to the fairgrounds, our laughter blending with the sounds of the rides, people talking, and the distant clink of carnival games. Luigi had been dragging me toward the rollercoaster the second we arrived, but I wasn't exactly thrilled. Heights and speed weren't exactly my favorite combination.

"You're gonna love it," he said, flashing me that signature grin of his, the one that made it seem like he could talk me into anything. "It's just a quick ride. We'll be back before you know it."

I shook my head. "I don't know, Lu. I've heard the horror stories. Not sure I'm cut out for this."

"Pssh. You'll be fine," he said with confidence, clearly thinking I was overreacting. "It's just a little fun. I'm right here. You're not gonna fall or anything."

I raised my eyebrows but decided to go with it. "Alright, alright, but if I get whiplash, it's on you."

He just laughed and pulled me closer as we got in line, the sound of the rollercoaster getting louder the closer we moved to the front. My stomach fluttered, but I didn't back out. There was something comforting in the way Luigi was so sure of everything. And with him, I felt like I could face anything.

"Come on, it'll be fun," he said, nudging me as we climbed into the seats.

As the ride started moving, I gripped the handlebar, trying to focus on anything but the ground falling away beneath us. The first drop hit, and I let out a surprised breath, my stomach lurching. But this time, it wasn't panic—more like that feeling of excitement that built up.

"Oh my god, oh my god!" I said, laughing nervously.

Luigi shot me a teasing grin, his hand on mine. "Hey, I'm right here. Nothing's gonna happen."

I squeezed his hand tighter, not entirely convinced, but I was starting to enjoy the rush. The twists and turns of the track felt thrilling rather than terrifying, and by the time we hit another steep drop, I couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay, okay, this is actually kind of fun!" I admitted, grinning at him.

Luigi's face lit up. "Told you! See, I knew you'd like it."

By the time the ride came to an end, I was buzzing with adrenaline. My heart was racing, but it was a good feeling. I stumbled out of the seat, my legs a little shaky, but the laugh that bubbled up from deep inside me was all nerves and excitement.

Luigi was already laughing, his eyes full of amusement. "You did great! You looked like you were about to lose it a second there."

I shook my head, still giggling. "I did not lose it. But... I might have screamed a little. Just a tiny bit."

He chuckled and wrapped his arm around me. "It's okay, you can scream as much as you want when you're with me."

"Uh-huh," I said, still laughing as I leaned into him. "And now you owe me a funnel cake."

Luigi gave me a wink. "Deal. You're officially a rollercoaster pro now."

I grinned up at him. "Next time, we're going on the Ferris wheel. But you're not allowed to laugh at me when I scream."

He raised an eyebrow, clearly up for the challenge. "I'll make no promises."
