I gathered my belongings and said goodbye to the other members. I had a lot to think about, especially with the scriptwriting assignment looming over me.
The next period was free, so I decided to head to the library to get a head start on my studies. I walked through the quiet corridors, the sound of my footsteps echoing off the walls.
As I entered the library, I was greeted by the familiar sight of rows upon rows of bookshelves. I made my way to my favorite table by the window and settled in for a study session.
I pulled out my notes and textbooks, and began to review the material for my upcoming exams. The library was peaceful, and I was able to focus on my studies without any distractions.
As I delved deeper into my studies, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I looked up to see Zhiyu walking towards me, a basketball tucked under his arm. His hair was messy and damp with sweat, and his face was flushed from exertion. He flashed me a charming smile, and I felt my heart skip a beat.
"Hey, Mei," he said, dropping his backpack onto the floor. "Mind if I join you?"
I shook my head, trying to play it cool. "Not at all. I could use some company."
Zhiyu sat down across from me, his eyes scanning the books and notes scattered across the table. The sunlight streaming through the window highlighted the beads of sweat on his forehead, and I couldn't help but notice how stunning he looked. "Wow, you're really getting a head start on your studies, aren't you?"
I nodded, feeling a sense of pride. "I like to stay on top of things. Besides, I have a lot to learn for the Board Casting Club project."
Zhiyu chuckled. "You're going to do great, Mei. I have no doubt about it."
I smiled, feeling a warmth spread through my chest. "Thanks, Zhiyu. That means a lot coming from you."
We sat in silence for a moment, studying and working on our respective tasks. But as the minutes ticked by, I couldn't help but steal glances at Zhiyu. He was so focused, so intent on his work. I admired that about him.
As I gazed at him, Zhiyu suddenly looked up and caught my eye. "Hey, Mei, what's up?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.
I felt my face heat up, and I quickly looked away. "Nothing, just... uh... studying."
Zhiyu chuckled. "You're not fooling anyone, Mei. You were totally checking me out."
I glared at him, trying to play it cool. "I was not! I was just... admiring your... uh... study habits."
Zhiyu laughed, his eyes sparkling with mirth. "Study habits, huh? Well, I'm glad you approve."
I rolled my eyes, feeling a sense of exasperation. "You're impossible, Zhiyu."
He grinned, his smile disarming. "That's what makes me so lovable, Mei."
I couldn't help but laugh, feeling a sense of joy that I hadn't experienced in a long time. As we sat there, studying and joking around, I realized that maybe, just maybe, Zhiyu and I could be more than just rivals.
As we sat there, studying and joking around, I found myself gazing out the window, lost in thought. The warm sunlight streaming through the glass highlighted the tiny dust particles dancing in the air, and I felt my mind begin to wander. Outside, a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the trees, causing the branches to sway softly. A mother bird was perched on a nearby branch, feeding her baby birds. The mother bird's feathers were a beautiful shade of brown, with intricate patterns that glistened in the sunlight. The baby birds, on the other hand, were adorable balls of fluff, their beaks open wide as they chirped for food. I couldn't help but smile at the tender scene.
Zhiyu followed my gaze, his eyes squinting slightly as he tried to see what had caught my attention. "What are you looking at?" he asked, his voice soft.
I turned back to him, my eyes meeting his. "Just a mother bird feeding her babies," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper.
Zhiyu's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "That's so sweet. You know, my mom always says that mothers are the most selfless creatures in the world."
I nodded, feeling a pang in my chest. "Yeah, moms are great. But sometimes... sometimes they can't always be there for us."
Zhiyu's expression turned curious. "What do you mean?"
I hesitated, unsure if I should share something so personal. But there was something about Zhiyu's gentle tone that put me at ease. "My mom doesn't come visit me often," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "She's always busy with work, and... and I miss her."
Zhiyu's eyes softened, and he reached out, his hand brushing against mine. "I'm sorry, Mei. That must be tough for you."
I felt a lump form in my throat, but I tried to smile. "It's okay. I'm used to it. But seeing that mother bird with her babies... I just makes me appreciate the little things, you know?"
Zhiyu nodded, his eyes never leaving mine. "I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it's the smallest moments that touch our hearts the most."
"But I'm lucky," I added, trying to sound more positive. "I have my granny, who always cares about me. She's the one who takes care of me when my mom is away."
Zhiyu's face lit up with a warm smile. "That's great! Having a supportive family member can make all the difference. My family is rally close-knit too. We always have dinner together on Sundays."
I smiled, feeling a sense of envy. "That sounds wonderful. I wish my family could be like that too."
Zhiyu's expression turned thoughtful. "You know, Mei, family is not just about being physically together. It's about the love and support you have for each other, no matter where you are."
I nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Zhiyu. He had a way of making me see things from a different perspective.
As we continued to talk, I realized that Zhiyu and I had more in common than I thought..
The sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the library. As I sat there, watching Zhiyu pack up his things, I couldn't help but think about how different he seemed today.
Why was I looking at him like that? I wondered. We were rivals, after all. We were supposed to be competing with each other, not... not noticing each other's eyes.
I shook my head, feeling a little silly for even thinking about it. Focus, Mei! I told myself. You need to focus on your studies, not stare at Zhiyu like a lovesick fool.
I took a deep breath and turned back to my books, trying to push Zhiyu out of my mind. But as I delved back into my studies, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had just caught a glimpse of something more... something that could change everything.
