The next day at school was a blur. I couldn't focus on my classes, my mind still reeling from the events of the previous day. When the final bell rang, I gathered my things and stepped out of the classroom. Zhiyu was already waiting for me, but he said nothing, just watching me with an intense gaze.

I felt a shiver run down my spine, but I didn't say anything, just turning to head home.

As I walked, I suddenly remembered that Yumei had asked me to meet her at an abandoned building on the outskirts of town. I felt a pang of guilt for forgetting, and quickly changed direction, making my way to the building.

When I arrived, I was shocked to see a crowd of people gathered outside. They were all talking and gesturing wildly, and I couldn't understand what was happening.

I pushed my way through the crowd and asked one of the onlookers what was going on. "The building just collapsed!" they exclaimed. "We think someone might have been inside when it happened."

My heart sank as I realized that Yumei might have been trapped inside. I tried to push my way through the crowd, but they were holding me back.

"No, you can't go in there!" one of the bystanders shouted. "The building is on fire!"

But I was determined to save Yumei. I somehow managed to slip past the crowd and make my way into the burning building.

As I stumbled through the smoke-filled hallways, I called out Yumei's name. "Yumei! Where are you?"

I heard a faint meowing sound, and my heart skipped a beat. That was the sound of Miao, Yumei's cat!

I followed the sound, my eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of Yumei. Suddenly, I heard my name being called.

"Mei!" a voice shouted. "What are you doing here?"

I turned to see Zhiyu rushing towards me, his face etched with worry.

"We have to get out of here, now!" he exclaimed, grabbing my arm. "The building is going to collapse!"

But I shook him off. "Yumei is still here," I said, my voice trembling. "I have to find her."

Zhiyu's expression changed, and he nodded. "Okay, let's go."

Together, we searched the burning building, calling out Yumei's name. Finally, we found her, trapped under a pile of rubble.

Zhiyu lifted the debris off her, and I rushed to her side. She was unconscious, and I felt a wave of panic wash over me.

"Yumei, wake up!" I screamed, shaking her. "Please, wake up!"

As Zhiyu tried to give Yumei CPR, I heard him whisper, "She's coming to... Mei, she's trying to say something."

I leaned in, my heart racing with hope. Yumei's eyes flickered open, and she looked up at me. Her voice was barely a whisper, but I heard her say my name. "Mei..."

I burst into tears, sobbing uncontrollably. Yumei tried to reach out and hold my hand, but her arm fell limp. Zhiyu kept trying to revive her, but it was too late.

The ambulance arrived, and the paramedics rushed over to take Yumei away. I tried to stand up, but my legs gave way beneath me. I fell to the ground, crying out in despair.

As the paramedics took Yumei away, I saw Nainai rushing towards me, her face etched with worry. "Mei," she exclaimed, holding me in her arms.

I cried and cried, my body shaking with sobs. Nainai held me close, whispering words of comfort in my ear. But nothing could comfort me now. Yumei was gone, and I was left to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart.

Zhiyu rushed to my side, holding me in his arms. "Mei, don't try to move," he whispered.

Zhiyu tried to comfort me, but I pushed him away.

As I stumbled away from the scene, I felt my legs give way beneath me. I fell to the ground, calling out Zhiyu's name.

But my voice was barely a whisper, and I couldn't even try to move towards him.

Just as I felt myself fading away, Zhiyu appeared beside me, his face etched with worry.

"Mei!" he exclaimed, shaking me. "Mei, wake up!"

But I was too far gone, and everything went black.

As I lay there, I felt Zhiyu's warm breath on my face, his tears falling onto my cheeks. I tried to open my eyes, but they felt heavy, weighed down by grief.

"Mei, please don't leave me," Zhiyu whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I need you."

But I couldn't respond. My body felt numb, my heart shattered into a million pieces.

The last thing I remembered was Zhiyu's desperate cry, his arms wrapping around me like a vice. And then, everything went black.

When I came to, I was lying in my bed, Nainai sitting beside me, her eyes red-rimmed from crying.

"Mei, you're awake," she whispered, relief washing over her face.

But I didn't feel relieved. I felt empty, hollow, like a part of me had been ripped away.

"Yumei?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.

Nainai's expression changed, and she looked away. "I'm so sorry, Mei," she whispered. "Yumei didn't make it."

I felt a wave of grief wash over me, and I turned away, burying my face in my pillow. I sobbed uncontrollably, my heart shattered into a million pieces.

Yumei was gone. My best friend, my confidante, my sister. She was gone, and I would never see her again.

The thought was too much to bear, and I let out a primal scream, my body shaking with grief.

As I cried, I felt Zhiyu's arms wrap around me, holding me close. He whispered words of comfort in my ear, but I couldn't hear them. I was too lost in my grief.

I cried even harder, calling out Yumei's name over and over again. "YUMEI! YUMEI! PLEASE COME BACK!" I screamed, my voice hoarse from shouting.

Nainai tried to calm me down, holding me in her arms and whispering softly in my ear. "Mei, it's okay. Yumei is in a better place now. She's not in pain anymore."

But I couldn't be comforted. I was consumed by grief and fear. I had never felt such a deep loss before, and I didn't know how to process it.

I pushed Nainai away, my eyes wild with panic. "NO! NO! YUMEI CAN'T BE GONE! SHE HAS TO COME BACK!" I screamed, my body shaking with sobs.

Nainai tried to hold me again, but I fought her off. I didn't want to be held or comforted. I just wanted Yumei back.

I collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably. Nainai sat beside me, stroking my hair and whispering softly, but I was too far gone to hear her.

As I lay there, I felt like I was drowning in my tears. I couldn't breathe, couldn't think. All I could do was cry and scream Yumei's name.

But no matter how hard I cried, Yumei didn't come back. She was really gone, and I was left to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart.

All I could think about was Yumei, and how much I would miss her.
