As I walked home, I couldn't help but think of Yumei. I missed her already, and it had only been a few days since we last hung out. I stopped at our favorite abandoned spot, feeling a pang of nostalgia.

Just as I was climbing the stairs, Miyo, Yumei's mischievous cat, jumped out from nowhere, startling me. "Ah!" I exclaimed, my heart racing.

Yumei appeared from behind the stairs, laughing. "Sorry about that! Miyo loves to sneak up on people."

We both giggled, and I asked her about school. She told me about her project, and I shared stories about my group and our upcoming science trip.

"I'm going to miss you so much, Yumei," I said, feeling a little down.

Yumei's expression turned sympathetic. "I'll miss you too, Mei. But we'll chat often, okay?"

Then, she dropped a bombshell. "Mei, I have some news. My dad's job is transferring him to Shanghai, and we'll be moving soon."

My heart sank, and I felt a lump form in my throat. Yumei saw my reaction and hugged me tight.

"Don't worry, dear," she said, her voice soothing. "We'll stay in touch. I promise."

We hugged each other tightly, both of us trying to hold back tears.

As we pulled back, Yumei rummaged through her bag and pulled out two drinks. "Let's make a pact to chat often, okay?"

I smiled, feeling a little better. "Deal."

We clinked our drinks together and took a sip, savoring the moment.

As I walked back home, I felt a mix of emotions. I was sad that Yumei was leaving, but I was also grateful for our friendship.

When I arrived home, Granny was lying on the floor, but she quickly got up as she heard my footsteps. "Mei, come have some watermelon," she said, gesturing to the kitchen table.

I sat down beside her, and she asked me about my day. I told her about Yumei's news and our conversation.

Granny's expression turned concerned. "You're going on a school trip tomorrow, aren't you?"

I nodded, taking a bite of the watermelon. "Yeah, we'll be back in three days."

Granny's eyes narrowed. "Be safe, Mei. If you have any crowd issues, I'll give you some medicine to take with you. Keep it with you at all times, dear."

I smiled, feeling grateful for Granny's concern. "Don't worry, Nai Nai. I'll be fine."

Granny smiled back, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "I know you will, Mei. You're growing up to be a strong and capable young woman."

As she went back to her room, I did the same, feeling a mix of emotions. I slept fitfully, my mind racing with thoughts of Yumei's departure...
