Skinny shook his head. âI found something as well.â
Fatty moved his chair over to the center of the living room and we followed suit.
Fatty started, âIâve found some confusing stuff.â
âShare, quick,â Skinny urged.
âHow do you think the truck driver was trialed? He worked hard for his family, his wife is jobless, his child is still studying...â
âDidnât the old man say that the driver killed his son and daughter-in-law? At least over 10 years of imprisonment, right?â I guessed.
âHow then, do you think his grandson killed him?â Fatty questioned.
Something clicked in my mind. âYouâre saying that the driver did not get a sentence after hitting them?â
âThe old man tricked us. The driver drove when he was tired, but the old manâs son drove under the influence of drugs. Whatâs unexpected was the fact that the driver had a lawyer named Fang Tangjing, who charges 10,000 per appearance in court. A truck driver hiring such a costly lawyer? Isnât that fishy?â Fatty laid out for us.
â10,000 dollars? Impressive,â Skinny noted.
âActually, what I found is related to this,â I said.
âCome, letâs piece them all together,â Fatty responded.
âThe old man left his company two years ago and his son took over. The son caused the company to lose 200,000,000 dollars in just half a year. A scoundrel through and through from what I gathered,â I summarized.
Skinny asked, âHis sonâs a bad person?â
âI also found out that the company has its own lawyer but he was absent that day. The old man did not get him to represent his son and daughter-in-law,â Fatty shared.
âThatâs why they lost,â I concluded.
âThere had been a few times where the old man invited Fang Tangjing to stand for the company when the company lawyer wasnât around. Guys, do you understand what Iâm saying? I think that the old man hired that driver to kill his own son and daughter-in-law,â Fatty inferred.
âOh my God,â I exclaimed in disbelief.
âNot only that, but the final verdict was that his drugged son was the cause of the accident. The truck driver was required to pay a 10% compensation fee, but do you really think he can afford that?â Fatty questioned.
âThe old man declined the money?â I asked.
Fatty only gave a bitter smile. âHe declined the money. However, a month later, the truck driver bought a suite in the city center and paid it in full.â
âSo itâs confirmed that the driver and the old man are in cahoots?â I clarified.
Fatty nodded. He said, âLetâs talk about the grandson now. Heâs being sentenced to death for murdering the truck driver, right? But heâs very rich, shouldnât he be able to get away with anything?â
I frowned. âWhat?â
âJust imagine. Youâre a rich man and your only grandson is being trialed. Wonât you think about hiring the best lawyer to flip the case around?â Fatty argued.
âIâm guessing the old man didnât do that?â I said.
âYes, he didnât do that. Even more suspiciously, the driverâs wife had Fang Tangjing as her lawyer,â Fatty added.
âYouâre saying that the old man paid to get rid of his son, daughter-in-law, and his grandson? What for?â I asked, perplexed.
âThere are pieces of evidence to support what I just claimed, but Iâll be guessing the rest. Didnât the old man share that his wife died early?â Fatty began.
âYou think the feud has something to do with his wife? Was he cuckolded by his wife?â Skinny grinned.
That seemed to be a plausible reason. Otherwise, I donât know why else would he harm his own family.
âWhy do you think he wants his grandsonâs corpse? Do you still think heâs trying to rescue him?â
âWhy do I feel like our investigations were for nothing? Should we still help him?â I questioned.
âWe have enough information, and it fits my discovery as well,â Skinny remarked.
I told him, âRight, what did you find?â
âI didnât find much on the dark web, but heâs been coughing a lot, right?â Skinny asked.
âYes, I found the reason for that. He had been working on the front line a lot before he left the company. The employees there have health issues,â I relayed. âWhat did you find on the web?â
âHis medical records from the hospitalâs database. Itâs easily hackable.â Skinny explained, âHis records state that he hadnât been wearing a mask at the factory so his lungs got infected over time. Putting this together with his motive becomes simple. It is also a big reason why he hired us.â
âDonât beat around the bush!â I exclaimed, annoyed.
âHe has panda blood, Rh negative. Itâs been a year but there is still no compatible match for a lung transplant. His son and grandson became his target, naturally. He killed his son to save himself. He did not take into consideration the possibility that his sonâs organs might be destroyed by the accident,â Skinny revealed.
âThe old man said that he wanted to bury his grandson so he could have company upon his death. It looks like heâs after his grandsonâs lungs, too. This is...â my voice trailed off as I shook my head.
âCan the lungs be transplanted after euthanasia?â Fatty asked.
âYes. I read of such a case before. From what I see, since heâs still alive, heâs already done half a transplant. His records show an improvement, but Iâm unable to dig for more information. He mightâve had the surgery done overseas. I suppose heâs about to complete the second half this time,â Skinny answered.
âWhy didnât he do it once and for all?â I asked, puzzled.
âWonât he need to recover from the surgery? He can only change one side at a time, and his grandson is going to be supplying him with the other half,â Skinny added.
âWhy couldnât he have just discussed it with his grandson? Why does he need to go this far?â Fatty wondered.
âThink about it. If youâre already 80 years old and you want your 30-year-old grandson to donate a lung to you, would you want the whole world to know? What would the public think of you? Sacrificing your grandsonâs youth for a few more years of life?â Skinny rationalized.
âI read that heâs done tons of charity work. Who wouldâve thought that heâs this heartless?â I reflected.
âNow that we know all of these, what should we do?â Skinny asked.
âLetâs just do nothing and let them send him his grandsonâs ashes,â Fatty suggested.
âArenât you afraid that he would seek revenge and turn us into ashes?â Skinny pointed out.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
I proposed, âOr we could just finish the job, take the money, and live on carefreely.â
âDonât you remember why we established this company in the first place? Are we really going to commit such evil deed? The old man has basically murdered his own son, daughter-in-law, and that driver,â Skinny argued.
Fatty supplied, âDo you think that we should reveal this to the public and get him arrested?â
âI donât think we have enough concrete evidence to back up our claims,â I protested.
Skinny smiled. âWe can make our own evidence. And then we can call the police.â
