Adore You Too [H.S]1,529 words~8 min read

"So you're performing at The Brits, right?" I ask Harry, whose arms were folded over her chest as he laid there lazily.

"I am." He nods, sitting up.

"What song are you singing?" I ask, genuinely curious.

"The band and I are debating on what song we should play," he tells me, fidgeting with his hands. "Watermelon Sugar, Adore You, and Lights Up are out of the question...we already have a million performances left and it would just get too repetitive."

"Yeah, I totally get that." I nod.

"We're arguing between Golden and Falling. And between the band, it's half and half, so there's really no tiebreaker," he says. "Ultimately, it's up to me to decide, but I wanted the band's input since they're performing it as well. We already have set designs for both, but I love them both so much and I just can't seem to decide which one I like more."

"Is this a way of you asking for my help?" I ask, chuckling.

"What gave it away?" He smiles, looking at me.

"You just usually have a plan for everything." I shrug. "I don't think you'd bring it up if you didn't want my help. That's like making plans in front of someone who's not invited."

"You know me too well." He sighs, shaking his head. I let out a soft laugh, readjusting my posture.

"Talk me through the set designs," I say, my interest spiking. Harry's mind is insanely creative, so I was eager to hear the set ideas he had stored in his brain.

"Well if we do Falling, we thought it'd be cool to kind of recreate the music video...in a way," he says, using his hands to gesture along with his words. "The whole concept of the water coming out of the piano would come into play and I would be standing in a pool that would only fill up to like my ankles."

Earlier on the plane, making an hour or so ago, Harry explained the process of filming the Falling music video to me. He explained how there was a room, and it was lowered into a pool of water. I had yet to see the final video, but he showed me a few snippets he had in the camera roll on his phone.

He said he felt like he was going to get frostbite until the water started filling the room.

"Okay." I nod, keeping the concept in mind. "And Golden?"

"Exactly how you'd picture it," he says, smiling. "Gold suit, the band wearing warm tones, sunset background...the whole shebang. The stage lights would all be yellow to make everything literally golden. It's a lot cooler than it sounds, it's kind of hard to explain."

"No, it sounds amazing," I reassure him. "They both sound so great."

"Well, that's my dilemma. I can't decide which one I like more," he says again, very torn between Golden or Falling. He sighs. "Which one do you like better?"

I see why Harry was struggling to make a decision. I mean, I love Golden as a song, and the set sounds absolutely stunning. But as much as I love it, I don't know if it would be the best performance for an award show. Falling definitely shows off Harry's vocal range far more than Golden does, and I think that might be a good thing for him to think about.

"Honestly...I'm kind of leaning more towards Falling," I tell him, hoping he wouldn't take offense to my decision. Sometimes you ask for others' opinions when you already know which one to choose.

"Why's that?" He asks.

"Because, even though Golden is an amazing song, I think performing Falling would be more impressive to the audience," I tell him honestly. He asked for my opinion, and I didn't want to sugarcoat anything. "I just think Falling will be much easier to show off your talent. Not that everyone doesn't already know how talented you are."

Harry sighs. "Yeah, I guess you're right... The part about the song, I mean."

"Plus I really wanna watch water come out of a piano," I'm sure to add. Harry chuckles. "What are you going to wear?"

"Well Harry was really excited to pick out styling options, so he planned them way ahead of time...like as soon as I was asked to perform," he says.

At first, I was really confused as to why he was referring to himself in the third person. But then I realized that he must've been talking about Harry Lambert, his stylist and someone I've heard a ton about over the past few weeks.

"He picked a gold outfit for Golden, obviously. It was like a metallic gold long-sleeved jumpsuit. And the neckline went down to here." He points to an area in the middle of his stomach...probably where his butterfly tattoo began. "And it wrapped into a knot at my belly button, then the bottom portion was trousers and had a single ruffle running down the side. It was pretty sick."

"I could definitely see you wearing that." I nod, trying my best to picture what he was describing in my head. What I was picturing was absolutely beautiful, but I knew it of course wasn't exactly what the design looked like. "What about Falling?"

"He said it'd be cool to do a lace outfit...kind of a Prince-inspired look," Harry says. "White and gold lace top, matching bottoms, white gloves, braces. I really liked it."

"Wait I'm sorry...braces?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowing together. "Like...on your teeth."

"No, sorry." He chuckles. "Suspenders," he says in an American accent, my brain finally able to picture the outfit.

I hated how the Golden outfit sounded more appealing. But no matter how much I liked the idea, I was sticking to Falling. I wanted to hear Harry belt that one line of Falling again. It's insanely impressive how well he can hold that note.

"Falling." I nod. "Final answer."

"Falling it is then." He leans back in his chair, his head lying back against the headrest. "Since we're on the topic of Brit Awards outfits...what are you planning to wear?"

"I'm not sure yet... I'll have to come up with something," I tell him, shrugging. I knew exactly what was coming next.

"You know, you could always raid my closet," he tells me. "Or-"

"I know what you're gonna say," I stop him before he has the chance to say anything else. "I don't need you to buy me anything. If I can't find something in my suitcase, I can buy an outfit myself."

Harry sighs, looking at me, almost as if he was...impressed. The corner of his mouth quirks up. "You're way too goddamn stubborn, you know that?"

"I'm sorry I just don't want you sp..." I trail off as Jess's words ring through my mind.

"If he's offering and insisting to buy you things and take you places and do things for you, then he obviously wants to."

I felt guilty. As awful as I felt for letting Harry buy me things, I almost felt worse that he was trying so hard to be nice, but I just wasn't letting him.

"What were you gonna say?" I ask, my voice soft and quiet.

"I thought you said you already knew." He raises an eyebrow. I shake my head.

"Tell me what you were gonna say," I urge him to continue.

"I was going to say we could go shopping," he says slowly. Then, his face lights up as if a light bulb had just been flipped on inside his head. He gasps excitedly as the idea that just popped in his brain.  "Or we could see what Harry could whip up for you!"

"Harry..." I begin to say, but stop myself. Was going to his stylist too far?

"Just...think about it," he says as if he could read my internal words. "If you decide you want to go see him, let me know and I can schedule a fitting. But you'll have to give him a week's notice, so he can get things tailored and whatnot."

"How long do you usually give him?" I ask out of curiosity.

"As soon as I'm informed about an event, I contact Harry," he tells me. "Usually no sooner than a month."

"Oh god," I say nervously.

"Oh don't worry about it," Harry says in an attempt to calm me. "We have around two weeks until the show, so you've got time. And I'm really not trying to rush you, but the sooner the better."

"Okay." I nod.

This was something I had to think about.

Maybe I should ask Jess what I should do.
