Yu Xiaoxiao followed the cries to a bedroom, where she saw a single candle illuminating a small space at the head of the bed. There was a ball huddled up beneath the satin covers that was the source of the crying.
She walked to the bed and lifted the covers, then asked the small child underneath, âWho bullied you?â
The little child was caught off-guard and scared to death. He looked up wordlessly at Yu Xiaoxiao, who noticed that he wasnât as well rounded at the two little Gu meatbuns back home. If anything, this boy was more like a beansprout, his thinness accentuating his tiny face and large eyes brimming with tears. They shimmered in the light, making him rather cute.
âWhy are you talking?â Yu Xiaoxiao asked. âAre you hungry?â
The little boy wiped his years and asked, âA-are you an assassin?â
Well dang. Yu Xiaoxiao felt that this child must have a high IQ. He was only a tiny beansprout, but he already knew the existence of things like assassins.
âAre you here to kill me?â the boy asked next.
Yu Xiaoxiao said, âAm I an assassin just because Iâm wearing black? Who are you, ah? Tell me a name.â
The boy couldnât be more than three or four years old, so he thought over Yu Xiaoxiaoâs words for a bit before he said, âMy name is Yu Ziming. Iâm His Sixth Highness.â
S-screw it!
This is Consort Zhaoâs son!
Yu Xiaoxiaoâs expression was blank as she stared at the little beansprout. For the sake of preventing Consort Zhaoâs rise, should she throttle this kid to death? Or choke him dead?
âIf youâre going to kill me, just do it,â Sixth Prince Yu Ziming was officially three and a half years old, but spoke clearer than Gu Jin, that four-year-old meatbun. âIn, in any case, myâmy imperial mother doesnât want me anymore.â
Seeing the little beansprout face death calmly in the face, Yu Xiaoxiao had a fantastical thought. Go to Hell, Consort Zhaoâs son already learned how to face his death!
âAssassin,â Yu Ziming said, âC-canâ¦.can you do it fast? I donât want it to hurt.â
Yu Xiaoxiao curved her fingers and rapped it against the beansproutâs head. She didnât dare to use too much strength in case she smashed a hole through his skull instead. âWhat assassin? Iâm your big sister,â Yu Xiaoxiao said as she sat on the edge of his bed. âYou donât recognize me?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Yu Ziming crawled out of the covers and looked intently at Yu Xiaoxiao by the candlelight.
âNo need to stare,â Yu Xiaoxiao said. âI really am your big sister. If I was an assassin, Iâd have killed you ages ago, much less waste time chatting with you here.â
âEldest imperial sister?â Yu Ziming tried.
âMhm,â Yu Xiaoxiao replied. âHow could I have entered the palace if I wasnât your sister? Tell me why youâre crying?â
Yu Ziming bought Yu Xiaoxiaoâs words. After all, not just anyone could saunter into the palace. He deflated with a pout as he said sadly, âIâm going to leave.â
âOh,â Yu Xiaoxiao said. âI know that. Youâre going to Zhuri.â
âImperial mother doesnât want me anymore,â Yu Ziming wept.
Yu Xiaoxiao recalled the two attending momo who were sleeping like pigs outside and knitted her brows. The beansproutâs cried his eyes red, but no one came in to check on him. That means the nannies are slacking, but he hasnât even left the capital yet. Has Consort Zhao already stopped caring whether he lives or dies?
âI heardâI heard the momo say,â Yu Ziming said while touching his fingers together, âThat imperial mother willâwill give birth to another little brother in the future. Imperial mother doesnât want me anymore.â
âTch,â Yu Xiaoxiao spat. Is it that easy for women to get pregnant? Then why did Consort Zhao only birth one son after all these years with the fatuous ruler? She must be addled in the brains.
âI donât want to go,â Yu Ziming sniffled.
If someone was kind and soft-hearted, theyâd probably feel guilty. After all, it was supposed to be Yu Ziyi suffering this fate in place of Yu Ziming. Yu Xiaoxiao was no villain by any means, but her heart never went soft. She was quite pragmatic about the whole thing. A prince would have to go to Zhuri as hostage eventually, so if she sympathized with this beansprout now, who would pity Yu Ziyi later? Furthermore, rather than hang around a fatuous ruler like Xianzong and that little biyatch Consort Zhao, it was better to go far away. Yu Ziming might even grow into a promising youth in Zhuriâwho knows?
âItâs not so bad to go to Zhuri,â Yu Xiaoxiao told Yu Ziming.
The sixth princeâs eyes filled with fresh tears.
âIn any case, your momâI mean, your imperial motherâis planning to have another baby. Will she have time to care for you after she has a new son?â Yu Xiaoxiao did her best to smear Consort Zhaoâs name. âRight now, our countryâs having a bad time. If you go to Zhuri and study well, then you can come back with real skills and make our nation stronger. Isnât that great?â
The three and a half year old beansprout couldnât understand all of Yu Xiaoxiaoâs words, but he sensed that leaving for a faraway land might not be as bad as it sounded.
âDo you understand me?â Yu Xiaoxiao asked.
âButâbut if I go to Zhuri, Iâll be all by myself. I wonât know anyone there, ah. Will I still be able to come back home?â Yu Ziming stammered.
âIâll go pick you up someday,â Yu Xiaoxiao said. âI never lie to little kids.â
âWhen?â
âMmâ¦when you grow up.â
As to when heâd grow up, Yu Ziming didnât consider this problem. Now that he had his big sisterâs promise, he felt less hopeless than before.
âJing Moâs in the capital city right now,â Yu Xiaoxiao said while letting her brother dress himself. âAfter you meet him, youâll have someone you know in Zhuri. Howâs this? Iâll take you to see Jing Mo.â
Yu Ziming didnât know how to dress himself, but he grew excited at her words. âEldest imperial sister is taking me out of the palace?â
Yu Xiaoxiao carelessly wrapped Yu Ziming up in some clothes and nodded. âI donât know when Jing Moâs leaving, so Iâll take you out tonight. Scared?â
Yu Ziming was almost wild with joy at the prospect of going out with his big sister. He only nodded furiously with a grin. Yu Xiaoxiao pinched Yu Zimingâs body and saw that he had the same physique as his mother. Most likely, heâd never be the âstrong and sturdyâ type. But she couldnât fathom where he got his guts from. First heâd spaced out at the sight of her and didnât cry, then grew supremely happy like he was celebrating New Yearâs when she said sheâd take him out. He was a foolishly gutsy child.
With Yu Ziming in her hands, Yu Xiaoxiao easily left the palace and headed for Complacent Winery. Brightness Palace (æå 殿) had just lost its young master, yet everything continued as if nothing had happened.
â
Jing Mo was currently ploughing a young maiden with all his might on the bed. The female beneath him had come in as a girl, but now blossomed into a woman. Despite the pain piercing her body, she never forgot to smile at the eldest Zhuri prince. Her expression was flattering and full of charms, because everyone knew Eldest Prince Jing only liked the women beneath him to smile.
By the time Yu Xiaoxiao landed outside of Complacent Winery, Jing Mo had finished his fun and turned over to lie by the girl. âNo need to leave, sleep a night with me,â he said.
