I used to train six hours everyday. Now that I have to plan a wedding. I train four hours and utilize that time and make a list of things we need for the ceremony. I asked Lyra to help since sheâs good with party planning and Iâve never even hosted any guests before.
Lyla had taken the day off today, thank the Stars for that.
âFirstly, we need a proper date,â Lyra started. âDid they tell you when they want to do it?â
âThey said theyâll decide when everything is prepared even though they want to do it really soon.â
âHow many guests?â Lyra got out her glitter pen.
âUmm.....roughly.....â I thought. âMaybe....about.....about thirty.â I stammered.
âLetâs make that thirty to thirty-five.â Lyra scribbled that down.
âMenu and venue,â Lyra rhymmed proudly.
âIâve talked to the kitchen staff theyâll prepare something special. But, there canât be a cake since there is no oven. And Mrs. Pisces promised to cook something exquisite.â
âYeah,â she snorted. âWe have different definitions of exquisite.â
âVenue....â I thought. âThey want to do dinner in the cafeteria and theyâll clear up the training area so thereâs room for the ceremony.â
âAre you excited?â She put down her notebook. I wiped my forehead.
âYes,â I said giddily âIâve never been to a wedding before. I donât even know how they exchange Signs.â
Lyra had put oil in my hair, it kept dripping on my face. She had done this since the day she found out about the wedding and insisted that I look my best. Until the big day, I was on a daily spa treatment.
âWeâll get some chairs and set them outside the Conference Hall building, leading to the training area and Hellen and Alfred can just do it here.â
âAlright,â I agreed and Lyra wrote that down as well. âWhat about decorations?â
Lyra hesitated. âI have no idea what we can find here.â
âIâll talk to them about that,â I made a mental note.
âNext up: wardrobe.â Lyra beamed. âWhat are the bride and groom wearing?â
âLyra.â I looked at her sternly. âDo you really think we can get fancy clothes on a rebel base?â
âNo,â she confessed. âBut...I was wondering if we could alter one of my dresses so Hellen can wear it.â
âIâll talk to her about that,â I said.
âAlfred can just wear whatever he wants, then,â Lyra said.
âIâll ask him too,â I said.
âBesides all the attention is for the bride.â A chill ran down my spine, I hoped it wasnât premonition. Lyra wrote something else down. Her perfect, cursive handwriting was hard to read. âWhat is the bridesmaid wearing?â
I blushed. âIs that really important?â
âOf course it is!â
âPlease donât write that down.â I begged.
âFine,â Lyra groaned and cut something off the notebook. âUgh. This mattress is so uncomfortable.â
âI know,â I sighed.
âAt least turn on another light.â she demanded.
I looked at the two or three light bulbs hanging from the ceilings. âThis is all weâve got.â
âIâll let all of you borrow some of my dresses but weâll need to have fittings.â
âI really appreciate it, thank you.â I smiled. âBut you donât have to if you donât want to.â
âNonsense!â she said. âIâm not going to ruin someoneâs wedding...even if they are old people getting married in a rebel base.â
âHey!â I nudged her.
âAlright! Sorry.â she said, trying to hide her smile. âBut...donât you think itâs weird to see your grandfather who you barely know get married to a lady who wonât even show you her Sign or tell you her Constellation?â
âIt is but Iâm not going to block someoneâs happiness.â I confessed. âIâm trying to be a part of a family of three people...again. Even if that family is two old people who I donât know very well but theyâre all Iâve got.â
âAww.â Lyra swooned and pulled me in a hug.
âOkay, okay.â I pulled away. âIâm going to start crying and then youâll start crying so letâs not do this.â
She gave me the notebook and I read through it while I walked to the Conference Hall. The door was open but I still knocked. Alfred and Hellen were looking over some papers, smiling and mumbling. Still getting used to that.
âCome in, Annabelle.â Hellen sang.
âI have a few questions,â I read them all out to her and gave Lyra credit for the planning.
âIâm having someone bring out the chairs to set them outside.â Hellen told. âThere is no need for decorations. I already have a dress. Itâs a bit old but you can wear whatever you want.â
âAs for Alfred,â she looked at him.
âIâll just show up like this,â he looked down at his tracksuit.
âI wish we could do this properly.â
âUs too.â Hellen sighed.
âWhen do you want to do it?â I remembered.
They both exchanged looks. âVery soon,â Alfred said.
âMaybe, like, in a week or less.â Hellen added.
I wrote that down. âIâll check on the chairs,â I said and headed out.
I bumped into Tristan because I was too busy staring at my notes.
âBelle, you okay?â he asked.
âYes, just working on stuff.â
âOh, yeah. Howâs that going?â he asked.
âSo far so good,â I said. As good as it gets, I added in my head.
âNathan, Lewis and I just got about fifty chairs from one of the storage buildings and put them in the corner of the cafeteria.â he told.
âSo...thereâs enough room?â
âYeah,â he said. âOh, by the way, I think Lyra was yelling you name in the girlsâ quarters.â
âWhy?â
Lewis approached, looking overexerted. He sucked in a few breaths with his hands on his knees. âBelle, tell Lyra to shout a little louder. I donât think all of Stellaregno heard her,â he said.
âIf we get exposed itâs all thanks to Lyraâs shouting.â Tristan said. I ran to the girlsâ quarters. Her screams getting louder.
A blonde girl stepped ran out of the room. âWhat happened?â I yelled at Lyra. âWhy were you shouting?â
Lyra looked like she was in shock. I was going to ask what was wrong but:
âSee for yourself,â she grabbed my arm and dragged me to the training area. She pointed to a girl throwing knives at a target. She was dressed in leggings and a sweater with combat boots.
âWho is that?â
âI guess Iâm not the only one who didnât recognize her at first,â Lyra muttered. I focused a little more on the girl. I still didnât know who she was, though she looked familiar. I met her eyes, ice blue and big.
âThatâs Amara?â I gasped.
âYes, maâam.â Lyra confirmed.
âWhat in the name of Virgo did she do to her hair?â
âDyed them, obviously.â Lyra snorted. âShe took my hair dye and bleach this morning without telling me. She said she wanted to be a blonde for a really long time.â
I stared at Amara who was now rolling her eyes and shaking her had at me.
âShe looks great though,â Lyra said after a while.
âI know!â I gushed. âBlue eyes and blonde hair, beautiful combination.â
âShe could use a trim though,â Lyra studied Amaraâs hair. The Starlight shining on it made her look pretty.
Lyra gasped. She stopped breathing and I thought her eyes would pop out. âWhat is it?â²
âI have an idea,â she grabbed my arm and walked across the training area, dodging knives. She snatched Amara and ran to the girlsâ room.
Lyra brought out one of her suitcases and threw out a pair of scissors and some boxes of hair dye along with hair care products.
âWhat are you doing?â Amara asked.
âHaving a spa day,â she answered. âBelle, go get Raelynn and if possible Phoenix.â
I was at the door when Raelynn walked in.
âAhh, perfect timing, Rae.â Lyra said.
âUhhh...what are you doing?â Raelynn was a little freaked out by seeing Lyra with scissors in her hand.
âI am giving all the girls a pre-wedding makeover.â Lyra told.
âYou do realize that the bride-to-be isnât here?â Raelynn pointed out.
âWell, Belle will go and get her.â Lyra looked at me.
âIâll go and get Phoenix.â I got to my feet. âI donât think Hellen needs a makeover.â
âPhoenix doesnât need one either,â Lyra mumbled as I headed out. I was surprised that Lyra was impressed by Phoenixâs goth look since sheâs on the sweet and sparkly side of fashion.
Phoenix was irritated for interrupting her training but she perked up about the spa day.
âActually,â Phoenix said as she put on her jacket. âI have an idea for that.â
She came to the girlsâ room and pulled out, what looked like a small gun and earrings from the trunk under her bed.
âWho wants piercings?â she asked, excited.
âNot from you,â Amara muttered playfully.
âSheâs actually really good,â Raelynn admitted.
âAlright,â I agreed.
Phoenix sat down next to me while Lyra gave Amara a haircut in the bathroom. Raelynn decided to touch up her hair, she borrowed hair dye from Lyra and squished herself in the bathroom with two other girls already in there.
âWhere do you want them?â Phoenix asked. She had a small box of earrings and a gun which made my stomach churn.
I examined Phoenixâs ears, always flashing with diamonds. She had two poircings in the left ear and three in the right. I only had one in each.
âI want it like yours,â I decided.
âOn the nose too?â
I nodded. âI also do tattoos,â she told as she found an earring. âI gave Anthony one with the Ophiuchus symbol. He insisted that he should have something to represent the revolution.â
âLyra has a pin like that,â I remembered. Phoenix held up the earrings, small red stones and she got a smaller green one for my single piercing in the right ear.
âAlright,â I heard nervousness in her voice, a rarity. âClose your eyes, it helps.â
âIâm not scared,â I promised, though I was shaking a little.
âYeah, right.â she snorted. The gun was at my ear now. âStop moving!â I bit my lip.
Prick. Prick. Prick.
Now I had a total of five piercings. âReady for the nose?â Phoenix asked. I nodded, still afraid.
Prick. The nose hurt a lot, I yelped.
âDone!â Phoenix said. I opened my eyes. I touched the tiny crystal at my nose.
âThank you,â I smiled.
âNo problem,â she said. âDoes anyone else want to try?â
Raelynn stepped out of the bathroom. There was still dye in her hair. âShow me,â she asked.
âDo they look good?â
âWonderful!â Raelynn told. âIâm next.â
I went to the bathroom, the only place with a mirror. Raelynn got holes in her ears.
âBelle, look at you!â Lyra grinned. She was standing behind Amara and brushing her hair. Amara stared at her new reflection. I pushed them out and looked at myself. My mouth fell open as I touched the jewels in my ears.
What is Granny going to say? I worried.
Then I remembered I didnât have to worry about her anymore. I smiled at the mirror and let Raelynn wash up her dye. Now, she had four piercings in her ear, two new ones. Amara got one new one in her ear, she had three in total.
When Phoenix asked Lyra she said: âNo way! I already have two and those look way to dauntless for me.â
âSuit yourself.â Phoenix put away her things.
âWhatâs next?â I whispered to Lyra.
âYour haircut,â she said and took me to the bathroom. I was shivering and not from the cold.
âBelle, youâre making me nervous with your fidgeting. Stop!â she demanded. âFor Starsâ sake! Itâs just a trim.â
âOkay, okay.â I squared my shoulders.
âDo you want it straight or round?â she asked. I thought about it.
âActually, nevermind,â she said quickly. âRound!â
I closed my eyes. The satisfying sound of scissors cutting through my hair was the only sound echoing in my ears. Snip. Snip. Snip. Snip. Snip.
âIs it done now?â I asked after five interminable minutes.
âAlmost...â Lyra said. âYou hair was dead at the ends.â
âNever heard of dead ends.â I told. âSplit ends, yes.â
Snip. Snip. Snip.
âYou donât have split ends,â² she told. Snip. Snip.
âYour hair fell to your hips,â Lyra said after two snips. âIâm going to cut it to come to your waist.â
âIâm okay with that,â I gulped. Snip. Snip. Snip. Snip. Snip. Now comes the neatening the ends. Snip. Snip. Snip. The sound was getting annoying now.
âDone!â Lyra brushed my hair. I still didnât open my eyes until she had broomed the dead hair into the trash can.
I opened my eyes, hesitantly. I actually looked nice. Thanks to Lyra. My hair was still long, it just came to my waist. Lyra hadnât washed out the oil. She told me to rinse it off with her shampoo. I used it twice. She trimmed my hair one more time just to make it neater. It was easier with dry hair.
âThanks, Lyra.â I said.
âAnytime,â she looked flattered.
Raelynn and Phoenix had left for archery practice. Amara was looking through Lyraâs clothes.
âI have to wax you now.â Lyra said. A s much as I hated the pain, I hated hair on my body even more.
It was a good thing the bathroom walls muffled my screams. Lyra said I was overreacting, which I probably was. She waxed my arms and legs, threaded the hair off my face, gave me a face mask and lotioned my entire body.
âYour hair is getting dull,â she noticed. âIâll get some dye.â
âNo!â I stopped but she was already looking through her suitcases.
âRed, cherry red,â she read the colours off the boxes out loud. âAh, yes! Crimson!â
âCrimson?â Amara repeated.
âYes,â Lyra confirmed. âJust a few touch-ups for Belleâs hair.â
I didnât even know how she made my hair look so full of life with just oils, shampoos and dyes. I looked like I was remade into something more healthy and beautiful.
âI need to do my own hair,â Lyra told.
âDidnât you dye it a few days ago?â
Lyra hesitated, as if she didnât know what happened. I looked at her hair and thatâs when i noticed it was all light brown again. Sheâd removed the dye completely.
âWhyâd you wash it all off if you just wanted to do it again?â I asked.
She knitted her eyebrows. âI....Iâm not....but I donât remember......â she stammered. Her became swollen again and she turned red. Like she was really angry all of a sudden. âI donât know.â
I didnât push much more Lyra got out her suitcase with her fancy dresses and told me and Amara to pick out her favourites.
âI canât believe you brought those to a rebel base,â Amara muttered.
âAnd if I didnât bring them you would be attending a wedding ceremony in sweatpants and tracksuits.â Lyra said. âI also thought that if I looked good the enemy wouldnât attack me.â
âAgghhh...â Amara groaned. I giggled. Lyra retreated to the bathroom.
We propped up the suitcase on Lyraâs bed, Amara sat next to me on my bed.
âWhat type of dress should we wear?â she asked.
âIâll go with something red,â I said.
âYou always wear red. Choose something different.â Amara said. I got up and looked throught the gowns.
I found a yellow shimmery long dress for Amara. âItâs a little lose,â she complained.
âYou havenât even tried it on,â
âI can tell,â she said.
âWeâll work it out.â
I found a long cream coloured dress, which gave shape to my body and made me look tall. Lyra pinned Amaraâs dress and got out her sewing kit.
âUnbelievable,â Amara said when she saw it. Amara stood with her arms out as Lyra worked her magic.
I was still in the bathroom staring at my reflection. The dress had off the shoulder sleeves but they were long. It didnât have any heavy design on it, only a silky texture wwhich shined in the light.
âIâm taking this one,â I put it on Lyraâs bed.
âOkay,â she said, her eyes fixated on Amaraâs dress. âThis is going to take time. Take it off, iâll fix it by tomorrow.â
Amara went did as she was told.
âWhat are you wearing?â I asked Lyra. Raelynn and Phoenix got back from training. I realized how late it was. We had missed lunch and dinner.
âI have something in mind,â Lyra teased. Lyra looked at Raelynn and Phoenix, dripping in sweat. âYou two can borrow some of my dresses if you like.â
âReally?â Raelynn beamed. Lyra nodded.
âI even have a dress for Phoenix,â Lyra said. Phoenix grinned.
âIâll think about it,â she answered.
âIâm going to bed now,â I yawned. âItâs been a long day.â
âYou have to show Hellen the dresses, though.â Raelynn reminded. âMake sure weâre not going over the top with this.â
âYeah, I will.â I said groggily.
Raelynn and Phoenix took turns in the bathroom. Lyra let them use her shampoo. They were relieved that their hair was now alive. Lyra stayed up late, working on Amaraâs dress under a flashlight she had.
I had a terrible headache all of a sudden and my chest felt heavy. I took out the Star Stone from Ophiuchus from my pillowcase. My Ophiuchus Sign burned, again.
I still couldnât shake the image of that blackish thing inside my Star Stone out of my head. It slithered inside the stone, as if it was looking for a way out. But thatâs impossible. I knew I was just being paranoid and the blackish matter was just leftover Celestial Energy, waiting to be evaporated. I couldâve been wrong.
