William did not mind. He placed the chicken soup on the table and set the table for her. Then, he turned around to look at Charles. He lifted his chin.
âCome out. We need to talk.â
A light smile appeared on Charlesâ face as if he had expected William to not be able to bear this. His smile was so alluring that it was able to cause all living creatures to lose their breath.
âYou can just say whatever you want here.â
Sophia did not know what they wanted to talk about. However, when she saw William frowning, she could not help but interrupt. âMr. Harris, if you guys have something to talk about, why donât I leave the room?â
After she said that, she lifted the blanket to get out of bed. However, when her fingertips touched the blanket on top of her, a lighter flew over and smacked her on the back of her hand. It was not heavy, but it brought her a lot of pain.
Charles peered at her and frowned. âDid I ask you to move? Lie there properly.â After that, his gaze landed on William. He smirked. âSheâs very obedient. Just say whatever you want to say.â
Williamâs face turned green when he saw Sophiaâs hand turning red. He was starting to sound aggressive when he said, âCharles, what will Leah think if you leave her by your side?â
Charles fiddled with the ring on his finger and looked at William. âThen, what do you think I should do, Mr. Jones?â
âLet her leave B City.â William looked at Sophia and forced himself to avert his gaze.
Sophiaâs chest hurt. She bit her lip as she could not say anything.
There was a hint of murderous intent in Charlesâ eyes. However, it went away in a blink of an eye. He smirked, and his expression was hard to read.
âHer work ethic is great, and sheâs willing to endure any hardships. I have no reason to fire her according to reasons.â
âDream Club is splendorous and majestic. Youâll be able to find all the talented people you want. Do you really need her as a welcoming lady?â There was a fire burning in Williamâs chest. He lifted his hand and smashed a chair. âWhy donât I find some employees for you, Mr. Harris? Will that work?â
Indeed, he could not hold it in anymore.
Charles lifted his hand and tidied his custom-made suit. He looked indifferent. âAccording to reasons, youâre a friend I grew up with. Thereâs no reason for me not to give you someone if you ask, but what shall I do? Itâs fine if you ask for other people, but Iâm not done with her yet.â
âWhat else do you want to do? Sheâs... Sheâs already in this state. Whatâs so fun about this?â
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 8 That Woman Changed Indeed âIâm sorry...â Sophia had enough of them pushing her around like an object. She took a deep breath and looked at William. âMr. Jones, I donât have any intention to change jobs right now. Thank you for your kindness.â
âSophia!â William looked at her in disbelief. âDo you know what youâre talking about?â
She knew William only wanted the best for her. However, Leah had already pushed her into hell. It did not matter if it was gratitude, grudges, or even grace... She could not get William involved in this.
âI understand. I know Mr. Jones is unhappy because of what happened last night, and thatâs why you still refuse to let me go today. Letâs do it this way. Iâll do anything as long as Mr. Jones stops feeling mad, even if it means going back and continue kneeling.â
William looked at Sophia with his face extremely icy. He felt a lump in his throat. He could not get rid of it no matter how hard he tried.
He did not understand how she had become like this.
âSophia, do you think that Iâm refusing to let you go?â
Sophia lowered her head and did not look at him. William chuckled. âIt seems like Iâm overthinking. Miss White, take care of yourself.â
The moment the door was slammed shut, Sophia let out an unknown sigh of relief.
However, before she could finish letting out her breath, a terrifying voice said over her head, âYouâve even learned how to rekindle old affections.
Sophia, you really didnât waste any time during those two years.â
She lifted her head in confusion. Then, she heard him chuckle coldly. âHowever, the Jones want to skin you alive. If you continue to fool around with William, youâll be asking for death.â
She finally understood what he meant. There was a coldness in her chest. It was coursing through her entire body.
After a long while, she mumbled in a low voice, âDonât worry, Mr. Harris. I donât want to squeeze into your circle anymore.â
