âThatâs truly a shame. I quite liked that child, Soph.â Yvette sighed. âThen see when youâll settle matters with Leah.â
Charles furrowed his brows. He did not make a sound.
âIf you donât have anyone you like but keep dragging your feet like this, it wonât be worth the loss later on when you lose a few hundred million and even upset your grandfather,â said Yvette.
Charles picked up some vegetables. âI understand.â
Yvette gave a long sigh. âNormally, when you say this, Iâll understand. But I donât know why you saying this now makes me lack understanding even more.â
Charles lifted his head to look at her, then lowered it again to eat. He changed the topic. âSophiaâs leg was burned. Sheâs at First Hospital now.â
âHow was she burned?â Yvette put her spoon down, her face showing mild shock and concern. âIs she badly hurt?â
Charles said, âShe was burned by hot tea and has to stay in the hospital for a while.â
âHot tea?â Yvette raised her eyebrows a little. âI heard the White brat destroyed one of your clubs and even splashed hot tea at Leah. So the burn on Sophâs leg was caused by Leah âaccidentallyâ burning her with hot tea?â
Charles made a sound of affirmation.
Yvette chuckled once and said vaguely, âI donât know if the Jones family producing a daughter with such great tactics is good or bad.â
She looked at Charles who was eating with his head down and gently rapped the table twice. âYou normally donât come back for meals, yet youâre behaving against the norm today. Did you make a special trip back to tell me Sophâs leg is hurt?â
âYouâre thinking too much,â said Charles.
Yvette stroked her chin as she looked seriously at her sonâs handsome face. âCan this count as concern for Soph? Son, you really wonât consider Soph?â
âMadam Harris.â Charles put his chopsticks down and wiped the corners of his mouth.
Yvette raised her arms in surrender. She sighed and said, âIâm thinking too much.â
Just then, Charlesâ ringtone sounded. He picked up his phone and glanced at the caller ID before putting it back onto the table.
The phone wailed sadly for more than 30 seconds but could not attract his concern. After a while, Yvetteâs phone rang.
She picked her phone up and glanced at the caller ID. She lifted her head and gave Charles a look before sighing. âI canât even have a meal in peace.â
She answered the phone and said with a smile, âCalling me at this hour, it canât be that you want to treat me to a meal, can it? Did I guess right? In that case, Iâm so sorry, Lew, but Iâve just finished eating.
âYouâre asking me why Charles would cancel the lawsuit against the White brat? This I really donât know. Charles didnât tell me.
âPass the phone to Charles? Iâm at home. That stinking brat is still at the office and hasnât come back. Uh-huh, okay then. When I see Charles, Iâll definitely scold him. Heâs being too unkind.â
Yvette hung up and glared at Charles. âYouâre already so old. In the future, wipe your own behind after you do the deed. Donât make others start calling me.â
âNo matter how old I am, in front of you, Iâm still your child,â said Charles.
Yvette chided him with a smile, then got up and took her purse. âItâs still early. Make a trip to the hospital with me to see Soph.â
When Sophia returned to the hospital, she made a call to Sterling to explain the situation. The latter half of the call was taken by her father, who roared at her throughout it about how difficult that piece of land was to obtain and even scolded her.
She listened numbly, not retorting at all until he hung up.
The doctor came in to give her an IV drip and redressed her wound. He warned her with a dark look. âYour leg has already been wounded previously, and you were burned this time. If you continue not cooperating with the treatment and run amok, bear the consequences yourself if the wound is inflamed or infected!â
Sophia nodded indifferently. She had something on her mind and was not actually listening to the doctorâs words at all.
Her attitude sufficiently angered the doctor. He said to call him or a nurse when the drip was fully administered. He then left with an ugly expression on his face.
âHow did you anger the doctor like that?â Yvette pushed the door open and walked in, letting Charles put aside the few boxes of supplements and chicken soup they had brought from home.
Sophia had been lying on the bed. Seeing the two of them come in, she pulled herself into a sitting position. Her back was tense. âAunt Harris, Mr.
Harris.â
âYou silly girl, what show are you putting on in front of us?â Yvette sighed helplessly. She commanded Charles, âQuick, help Soph lie down.â
Charles made a sound of acknowledgment and walked up to Sophia. His left hand went around her waist while his right hand went over her neck, half-carrying her to lay her down.
His breath enveloped Sophia. Her left ear was pressed to his chest, and she could even hear his powerful heartbeat. She subconsciously held her breath. This time it was not just her back, all the cells in her body were tense too.
âYour heights and looks match well. If someone who didnât know better came in, theyâd definitely think youâre a couple.â Yvette smiled.
Charles acted as if he did not hear and started peeling an apple. His long, pale fingers flew between the red apple skin and pale yellow flesh like it was a work of art.
âAunt Harris, youâve overstated me.â Sophia glanced at Charles from the corner of her eyes. A thin layer of sweat started to appear over her nose.
âMr. Harris and Ms. Jones are a better match.â
Charlesâ apple-peeling paused. The long red peel broke and fall onto the floor. He picked it up and threw it in the trashcan.
âThough Leahâs looks match Charlesâ well, the same canât be said about other aspects,â Yvette said vaguely. âAlright, enough about her. Why did I see the doctor so angry when he walked out just now? Did you provoke him?â
âItâs nothing,â Sophia said uncertainly.
Charles finished peeling the apple. He handed it to Yvette and said indifferently, âThe doctor asked her to rest, yet she came to the company this afternoon to look for me.â
Yvette raised her eyebrows slightly and passed the apple to Sophia. âNo matter if others value it or not, you have to put your body first. The doctor already asked you to rest well. What important matters did you have that you had to go look for Charles this afternoon?â
Pressing her lips together, Sophia did not say anything and only passed the apple back to Yvette. Charles had peeled it, so she did not dare to eat it.
Seeing that she was unwilling to say, Yvette did not ask further and handed the apple back to Sophia with a smile. âEat what youâre given. Iâll get Charles to peel more.â
Sophia took the apple, glancing subconsciously at Charles.

ï¤Chapter 70 Itâs Better If You Take Some Precaution âEat.â Charles took another apple and peeled it.
Sophia took a small bite, not quite tasting it. She really could not understand him. Sometimes, he acted as though he wanted to kill her, but sometimes, he acted like a normal person. She did not know if he would let her go.
âHow much was splashed on you that youâre this hurt?â Yvette pulled the blanket aside and looked at the wound on Sophiaâs leg. Her heart ached a little.
Sophia worried that saying something that was bad for Leah would displease Charles, so she did not make a sound.
âAn entire teapot.â Charles furrowed his brows lightly before quickly relaxing and passing the peeled apple to Yvette.
âEating this whole will rub off my lipstick. No, thanks. You eat it.â Yvette pushed the apple back to Charles and chuckled. âAccidentally spilling an entire teapot of water onto Soph... Leah is truly talented.â
