Charlesâ slender legs were folded together. He leaned his body on the back of the chair, his voice chilling. "Then you should also know that the stock drop caused by such misleading news cannot cause fatal trauma to Harris Corporation."
"Of course. Harris Corporation is very well flourished. A small change in stocks is not even an itch. Itâll merely be a loss of one or two billion. However, youâre a businessman. You wonât risk this unnecessary loss for someone who is insignificant, will you?â Leah said slowly.
"For an insignificant person, itâs certainly not worth it." Charles put his hands on his knees, his right fingers clasping his knees. His eyes were cold.
âBut a sacrifice of a billion or two to get rid of someone who exceeds my limit of patience... It's worth it."
Silence.
There was dead silence in the office.
The smile on Leah's face froze for a moment. It took her a while before returning to normal.
She passed by the teacup fragments on the ground. Pushing her wheelchair, she said, "Youâre being too serious. Like I said just now, I did not tail or find someone to keep an eye on you. It is unnecessary. I came to the club just because I want to talk to you about my brother's engagement next month."
Her figure was reflected in Charlesâ deep pupils. His brows and eyes were indifferent.
He picked up a cup of tea. As soon as he put his lips on the cup, the picture of Sophia's thigh that was full of blisters and scars flashed in his brain.
He frowned slightly. He then put the teacup down again.
"If you still feel uncomfortable, I can guarantee that I will not come to the club without your permission in the future." Leah smiled bitterly.
"Okay," Charles responded softly without making her feel too bad. He then changed the subject. "You said you came to me to talk about your brother's engagement next month?"
Leah lightly nodded. She said softly, "During Aunt Harrisâ birthday party yesterday, my parents knew about Sophiaâs entanglement with my brother.
My parents are not at ease. Theyâre afraid that Sophia will cause trouble during my brotherâs engagement party with Audrey Sommer. So, they asked me to come to you."
"Come to me?" The word 'entanglement' made Charlesâ eyes even dimmer. He felt a little oppressed in his chest. He yanked his shirt lightly.
"Yeah." Leah observed his reaction under her eyes. She gripped him for a moment. She released the grip soon after, saying, "Sophia is an employee of the club, and you are the owner of the club. A few days before my brotherâs engagement, can you arrange some more work for her so that she wonât have the opportunity to cause trouble?"
When Sophia arrived at the hospital, the doctor pierced the blisters with a sterile needle. Then, they cleaned the pus inside the blisters. Once that was done, she was wrapped with gauze.
Due to the large wound area, the scald was more serious. She needed to be hospitalized for intravenous therapy.
The doctor explained some urgent matters and left.
"Was it caused by a hot beverage?" Marie leaned against the wall. Her gorgeous and silky voice made her more charming because of the upswing intonation at the end of the question.
Most of Sophiaâs right leg was wrapped with gauze. Lying down, she was uncomfortable as she could not move. She hummed. While supporting herself on the bed with both hands, she sat up with some difficulty.
"Tsk, she really did a number on you." Marie sighed. Then, she gossiped. "Ms. Jones injured you... Didnât Mr. Harris say anything?"
Sophia lowered her eyes. She said softly, "Let me go to work again when I get better."
"He didnât say anything?" Marie stepped away from the wall and bent over curiously.
Sophia raised her eyes. She glanced at her lightly. After a while, she said, "No."
"A man's heart is like a needle under the sea, very difficult to understand." Marie straightened up. She suddenly said something inexplicable.
Sophia did not know what she meant by these words. She also did not want to know. She pursed her lips for a moment. Then, she spoke embarrassingly, "Ms. Marie, can I borrow the medical and hospital expenses from you first? I'll pay you back when I get back. "
She had come out in a hurry, so she did not bring her mobile phone or wallet.
"It's considered a work injury. The club will pay for you. You donât need to worry about it." Marie stared at the scar on her face. She stretched out her slender finger and tapped. She furrowed her brows. "Such a beautiful face, it's a pity."
Sophia tilted her head inadvertently. The uneven bangs covered the scar on her forehead. "Then, thank you, Ms. Marie."
She did not have medical insurance. If the club did not reimburse her, the medical expenses would cost one-third of her savings.
"Thank you on the left, thank you on the right. Donât you feel tired?" Marie raised her eyebrows. Looking out the window, she said, "Your brother and your sister-in-law just passed by outside. Do you want me to go out and get them?"
Sophia shook her head without hesitation. "No thanks, Ms. Marie."
Her brother and sister-in-law came here to remove the bandages. If they knew that she was injured, they would have to worry again.
"Okay then." Marie walked elegantly to the side of the bed. She sat down. "Mr. Harris broke your leg and made you work at the club. Do you loathe him?"
Sophiaâs face was completely pale. Loathe him?
Naturally, she loathed him. However, she was more afraid of him.
Whether it was hatred or not, her relationship with the manager was not good enough to say this.
"Did I surprise you?" Marie chuckled lightly. Her facial features were bright. "Then let me change the question. Do you want to leave Dream Club?"
Sophia pursed her lips. She frowned slightly. She was unclear why the manager was suddenly asking her so many private questions today.
If she said that she wanted to, the manager might be unhappy.
However, if she said that she did not want to, it was obviously a lie.
There were wolves in front and tigers behind. None of the answers were correct.
"Forget it, Iâll stop teasing you. Don't be afraid." Standing up, Marie pulled on her skirt that was a little wrinkled. "I have something to do, so Iâll take my leave first. As for your phone and wallet, I will get Megan to bring them to you."
She walked to the door. Stopping abruptly, she turned around and said, "You should not think about things like leaving Dream Club. I'm afraid some people won't let you go!"
She smiled. She then left while humming.
On the other hand, Sophia was clutching the sheets tightly. Her mind went blank after getting bombarded by her words.
The manager knew she wanted to leave. Was this a warning to her? Was she simply putting this out without any other meaning?
There was a mess in Sophiaâs mind. When Sterling and Nicole entered the ward after Megan, her mind was even messier.
She frowned while looking at Megan. The receiving party dodged her gaze with a dry smile.
Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!
ï¤Chapter 58 I Will Pay for the Teacup Later "Why are you injured again? Your entire thigh is all wrapped up. Is your entire thigh injured? Is the injury serious? Is it still painful?"
The bandages on Sterling's head had been removed. However, the scar that was the size of the thumbnail was still there. The scar was twisted into a ball because of his frowning expression.
When Sophia did not answer, he was so worried that he wanted to remove her gauze to see her wound.
"You said we are here to visit Soph, but why are you causing more trouble? What happens if she gets infected after taking off the bandages?" Nicole slapped Sterlingâs hand. She then sat on the bed to hold Sophia. She looked at the bandages on her thigh. "Soph, such a large wound area... You got scalded?"
As she spoke, her eyes were red.
In the past, she had always envied that Soph was pampered by the whole family. However, ever since the car accident two years ago, everything changed.
