Chapter 396 of 493

Chapter 399

Charles frowned as he stepped forward to cover her mouth.

Even if her moans were fake, he did not want any other men hearing it!

Sophia continued whimpering even with her mouth covered, worried that the bodyguards might be suspicious if she had suddenly gone quiet. At the same time, her hand reached over and slapped Charles’ body rhythmically, imitating the sound of their bodies colliding.

Charles, “...”

Where did she learn all this?

Knock knock knock!

One of the bodyguards knocked on the door and coughed dryly before speaking, “Ms. White, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Phillips are here to see you.”

Before Sophia could respond, Charles replied coldly, “Throw them out!”

“Mr. Phillips and Mr. Johnson brought over a dozen men and they insist on seeing Ms. White today,” the bodyguard replied.

Sophia shoved Charles’ hand away and began toweling her body dry. “They must have gotten wind that you were arrested. I think Mr. Phillips is here to seek revenge.”

As for Shawn, he must be here about his mother.

“You don’t have to go, I’ll take care of this.” Charles took a towel and dried himself off, then left the bathroom after putting on his robe.

Sophia did not go after him. Instead, she slowly dried herself up and changed back into the clothes she was wearing earlier.

The bodyguards must be anxious seeing how long they had been together alone.

Sure enough, by the time she walked out of the bathroom, the leader of the bodyguards was already waiting by the door and he did not look happy at all.

“Why didn’t you tell me that you were here? What if I had come out of the shower naked?” Sophia cast him a brief glance and walked around him, then sat down on the bed.

The bodyguard walked toward her. He quickly looked out the door, and once he was sure that nobody was outside, he lowered his voice and ask, “Ms. White, did you say anything that shouldn’t be said just now?”

“Would you believe me if I said I didn’t?” Sophia looked up at him and asked.

The bodyguard did not answer.

“You won’t even believe me if I say it, so why do you still have to ask?” Sophia chuckled.

The bodyguard was displeased with her attitude right then. “Ms. White, I think you should best correct your tone. If we find out that you leaked something to Mr. Harris, I’m afraid you might regret your actions.”

Sophia raised a brow. “Why so?”

“We’ll kill you,” the bodyguard replied without hesitation, speaking so casually as if he was talking about smashing an ant.

Sophia’s heart pounded against her chest as her palms started getting clammy.

If someone like Master Harris was already easily capable of harming someone, killing a person was certainly not a problem for someone like this mysterious big shot.

If the bodyguards report to their superior that Sophia had told Charles everything, she might really be killed.

However, over-explaining now might arouse the bodyguard’s suspicion as well.

Every cell in Sophia’s body tensed up, but she forced herself to keep a calm and natural expression on her face. “No, I didn’t tell him anything. You already came to your own conclusions, didn’t you, so what’s the point of asking me still?”

The bodyguard kept quiet and frowned at her.

She stared back into his eyes and with great effort, tried to keep herself collected. “If you have anything else to add, you should say it all now.

Otherwise, Charles might suspect something when he comes back and the entire plan might be ruined. If that happens, I don’t want to be blamed for causing everything to fall apart.”

The bodyguard hesitated for a moment. He seemed to be contemplating whether to trust her.

After a while, he took out a black object that was the size of a thumb and handed it to her. “Ms. White, please put this on. Before you break up with Mr. Harris, you must wear this at all times, even if you’re having sex or using the toilet.”

Sophia took it in her hands and studied it for a while before putting it into her pocket.

“This is a voice recorder. We can hear everything you say at any time, please wear it around your neck.” The bodyguard fished the device out from her pocket and handed it to her again.

There was a string around the device so it would just look like ordinary jewelry if she wore it around her neck.

However, Sophia merely stared at it this time and did not accept the item from him. “Are you sure you want me to wear this like a necklace?”

Then, she removed the jade pendant around her neck, and before he could speak, she continued, “My brother won this for me in an auction for my birthday gift, I think it’s worth at least ten million dollars. I have been wearing it every day ever since, so don’t you think that Charles would ask me who gave me this silly little thing if I suddenly switched it out?”

Just as she had expected, these people were not giving her another chance to be alone with Charles anymore.

“It’s fine if you don’t wear it around your neck, but please keep it with you at all times. Aside from that, please do not try communicating with Mr. Harris through pen and paper, we will be keeping track of everything.”

“If we do find anything suspicious around you, the only issue you should be concerned about then is whether you can live.”

The bodyguard’s voice was low and stern when he warned her. At the same time, he was highly vigilant, constantly turning around to check the door throughout their entire conversation.

This time, Sophia took the device in her hands and tucked it back into her pocket. “You don’t have to worry about this, I love my life more than anything else. No matter how much I like Charles, I wouldn’t risk my life for him.”

“You’re a sensible woman then.”

“You’re too kind. If you were in my shoes, I’m sure you would act the same as well.” Sophia looked at the bodyguard to check his expression, but from the indifferent look on his face, it was hard to tell whether he bought her lies.

The bodyguard did not stay any longer and he left the room right away.

He found a corner in the house and made a phone call. “Sophia and Charles showered together today. We couldn’t follow them so we don’t know if she said anything she wasn’t supposed to.

“Should we just find a chance to kill her? The effect would be similar to splitting the two of them up, I’m sure he would be equally distressed.”

The voice from the other end of the phone was old but authoritative. “No need, let’s just go according to our original plan. If it doesn’t work out, then we’ll come up with something else. Don’t touch Sophia White unless necessary, understand?”

Having put on his robe, Charles headed downstairs and immediately saw Sawyer and Shawn sitting on the sofa, while the thugs they had brought along were standing right behind them.

Seeing that Charles was the one who greeted them instead of Sophia, Sawyer instantly paled. The sly grin in his eyes vanished into thin air as well.

He consciously stood up and said, “Mr. Harris, when did you get back? Why didn’t I hear anything about you being released?”

“Why would I need to report to you when I come back to my home?” Even when he was just wearing something as casual as a bathrobe, Charles still looked authoritative.

He walked to the sofa, where Sawyer immediately nudged to the side. With a nervous laugh, Sawyer continued, “I’m just asking, I didn’t mean anything else. Please don’t think too much, Mr. Harris.”

Charles merely ignored him and took a seat. He nonchalantly glanced at the thugs standing behind. “Mr. Phillips, Mr. Johnson, may I know what’s the meaning of this, bringing so many people to my home?”
