Chapter 392 of 493

Chapter 395

The secretary’s face instantly paled when she heard this. “Ms. White, I was just worried. After all, Mr. Harris’ office must be filled with valuables that might attract thieves. I was just expressing my concerns, isn’t it too much for you to fire me?”

“Attract thieves? Are you implying that I’m a thief?” Sophia walked in front of the secretary before continuing, “Tell me then, what am I trying to steal?”

The secretary immediately blurted out, “Obviously, you’re stealing ——”

Before she could finish her sentence, one of the bodyguards purposefully dropped his phone on the ground and interrupted her.

The secretary eyed the bodyguards and turned to Mr. Logan for help. “Mr. Logan, I have been working here for five years now, you wouldn’t just fire me because of what Ms. White said, would you? Aren’t you worried about ruining the company’s reputation?”

Mr. Logan noticed that the secretary and Sophia were acting strangely today, and so he did not answer her right away.

“How could it possibly ruin the company’s reputation? Just fire her on the grounds that she tried seducing Charles, I’m sure my bodyguards can testify on my behalf.” Sophia turned around to look at the bodyguards and asked slowly, “Am I right?”

Technically, they were working for her so they could not defend the secretary, and so they nodded quietly.

“Since that’s the case, Ms. Lambert, send me your resignation letter and head over to the finance department to settle your remaining salary.” Mr.

Logan was unsure why Sophia was so against Ms. Lambert, but his instincts told him that firing this secretary was the right choice.

The secretary wanted to say something else but Mr. Logan could not be bothered anymore. “Just go now and take however much you’re owed. If you bother me anymore, I’ll look into everything you did throughout your time of employment and pinpoint every little mistake or violation that you made.

Then, you won’t even get a single cent from us.”

The secretary nodded unwillingly and left the room, her eyes thoroughly red.

“I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for, I don’t think it’s here. I’m going to leave first, Mr. Logan,” Sophia said as she headed to the door.

Mr. Logan called after her, “Ms. White, do you mind telling me what you’re looking for?”

Before she could answer, he quickly added, “I don’t mean anything in particular, I just wanted to ask so that I can have the cleaning crew to keep an eye out for it when they come in to clean the office. After all, you came all the way here to find it, it must be something valuable to you.”

“... It’s just an earring that my brother gifted to me,” Sophia replied.

Mr. Logan chuckled and replied cautiously, “Although Mr. Harris’ office is quite big, there isn’t much furnishing in the room. It should be quite easy to find something you misplaced.”

“It’s a diamond earring. What if someone picked it up and stole it for themselves because of a moment of greed?” Sophia lowered her gaze. “Mr.

Logan, from the way you’re questioning me, do you suspect me of something?”

Mr. Logan immediately shook his head. “No, of course not! Please don’t overthink my words! You’re the woman whom Mr. Harris loves and you’re even bearing his child, why would you be possibly snooping around?”

Sylvia had made her behave so suspiciously, it was quite likely that her actions had raised Mr. Logan’s suspicions. However, that might be a good thing. He may consider getting her followed and they might be able to find out who these five bodyguards of hers work for.

“That’s great then. Alright, I have to head to the hospital now, goodbye.” With that, Sophia turned and left the room.

The bodyguards trailed behind her as usual.

Mr. Logan frowned as he stared at the group of them. Then, he took out his phone and made a call. “Find me someone discreet to keep an eye on Sophia and those five bodyguards. Be mindful and be extremely careful.”

-

Sophia got into the car and said coldly into the earpiece, “Ms. Yates, are you satisfied with my performance?”

“Well, you’re not as stupid as I thought you were. Alright, do you have the flash drive with you right now? There’s a laptop in the car, use it to send your brother all the information regarding those two projects and have him launch both projects as soon as possible,” Sylvia said.

Sophia asked the bodyguards for the laptop and did as she was told.

Ster: [What is this?]

Ster: [Where did you get these two projects? Why are you sending me this all of a sudden?]

Sophia’s fingers hesitated above the keyboard and tilted her head at the two bodyguards beside her.

One of them stared at her while the other looked at the screen, both making sure that she did not attempt anything funny.

“It’s fine that you have to watch over me all the time but do you mind keeping your distance? Your head is too near right now and it makes me feel really uncomfortable!”

Both bodyguards straightened up, then only did Sophia type out her reply.

Sophia: [Don’t ask so many questions. These two projects seem quite good, you can let your people have a look and see if it’s worth taking.]

“Does that work, Ms. Yates?” She did not have a pinhole camera on her but each of the bodyguards had one, and she was certain that Sylvia was watching her conversation with her brother.

Sylvia laughed gently and replied, “Good job, you did well. Alright, you can be off to the hospital for your appointment now, it should be time for your physical therapy session.”

Although Sophia felt uneasy when she heard this, she ignored Sylvia and had her bodyguards send her over to the hospital.

Seeing that Victor was not in his office, she decided to pay her father a visit.

James laid quietly and peacefully in the hospital bed. For a man his age, he was still quite handsome and refined. Most of all, he looked nothing like a businessman who cared solely about nothing but personal profits.

Even now, Sophia was still confused as to why he had jumped in front of the car to save Sterling.

He was a selfish, conniving person through and through. He had deliberately raised her and her brother up to be worthless children who only knew how to enjoy wealth, just because he was worried that she and her brother might snatch the company away from him. He had also kept quiet when she was sent to prison two years ago even when he knew about the truth behind the car accident.

However, this man she once knew had saved her brother...

Knock knock knock!

Just as Sophia was immersed in her thoughts, someone knocked on the door.

She got up and went to open the door, only to see Victor standing in front of her.

“My assistant told me that you came by but left right away so I figured you came to see Uncle White. Do you want to have your session now or do you want to push it to later?” Victor gave her a small smile.

Sophia turned around and looked at the man lying in bed. She walked out of the room and closed the door behind her. “We can go now.”

Her bodyguards followed her into Victor’s office as well. Although his office was quite spacious, the room suddenly felt crowded with so many people around.

Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around!

Chapter 394 You Don’t Have To Worry About A Single Thing “Do you guys mind waiting outside?” Victor asked the bodyguards.

“All of you go and wait outside, I will stay here with Ms. White,” the leader ordered.

Victor frowned slightly but decided not to say anything. He took out a hospital gown for Sophia, and once she was changed, he began checking her leg.

“My mom and Aunt Lucy think it’s quite a pity that Aunty White didn’t have a funeral. Do you mind telling me where she was buried so we can pay our respects?”

It had barely been half a month since Jenny passed away but Sophia felt as if it was a long time ago.

She froze for a moment before replying, “In her suicide note, she requested that her ashes be spilled into the sea. She also mentioned not to leave a tombstone for her and she doesn’t want any sort of memorial ceremony.”

Perhaps she had lived under restrictions for so long while she was alive, she wanted to be a free spirit in the afterlife.

Victor paused for a moment. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine.”
